    TruGreen Lawn Care - 5753
I had an absolute horrible experience with Trugreen! Started off bad and ended even worse. I requested they call me before they came over for any service due to the fact I have inside/outside pets. And I didn't want my pets getting into any of the chemicals. That never happened. I called and reminded the person who answers the 800# that I must be called at least a couple hours before they show up for service. Well that didn't happen again for the 2nd go round. I called the 800# once again and asked that the local manager give me a call. Guess what? Nope that didn't happen either. And the kicker to this story is that they killed 2 of my bushes in my front yard. Of course I called that 800# again and requested to talk to a local manager again, and nothing. They sent the same guy who killed my bushes over to my house without letting me know he was coming. So now I have a stranger lurking around my house. I saw the truck and went out to talk to him. He said he'd send the manager and shrub expert over on that Thursday to take a look and talk with me. Well you know that didn't happen either. Some other guy came to my house that Wednesday without me being notified and once again I have a stranger lurking around my house. And this guy left me a crappy note telling me some BS. Didn't even bother to knock on my door and talk to me face to face. Once again called the 800#, but this time I cancelled my prepaid service. Then they had the audacity to call me to renew my service, not once but three times. I've had 2 other reputable companies come over to look at my dead bushes and they said it was from herbicide. That Trugreen used the wrong mixture of chemicals. One of these companies is a landscaping company so they were not trying to get my business. Horrible customer service and product. I will never use them again or refer anyone to use them.

Durdel and Sons Landscaping & Tree Service
Great job on cutting down and hauling away a medium sized tree (including stump). They came quickly and cleaned up the area very nicely. Sweet people working there and if I need any tree work done, I'll give them a call again. Punctual, professional and fair priced.

    B & W TREE SVC
3 years ago, King Tree said they'd take out a large tree at the back of my property. Brian told me they'd call 2 days before the work. They didn't call until I had contractors ready to dig and pour my basement. In a panic, I called Bill Birky at B & W. They did the work the next day for less than King and cleaned up really nicely later. On 8/2/2017, Bill and his team took out 2 large trees on my property. Again, great team, didn't damage anything on my property (fence, sprinklers, landscaping) and got the job done in one day. Laid down boards to roll in equipment, and after grinding out stumps, put in some good potting soil. Good, professional job. Cost was $2200--less than another tree service quoted me. Great crew. I'd trust Bill Birky any day.

Buskirk Tree Service and Landscape Inc
Provided a detailed estimate of the work prior to their selection. Arrived first thing in the morning and went over work plan. Cleaned up well afterwards. Stumps removed a couple days later. Did a good job. Would use them again.

    King Tree Specialists, Inc.
Never heard back from them. I emailed with no reply. I then called and someone rudely took a message from me but still no call back. I went with someone else after waiting over a week for them to contact me. The exact same thing also happened to a lady I work with so definitely not a one time thing.

    Genes Tree Service
They came out quickly and answered all my questions about what would be done. I received very good communication from them. They showed up when expected and called if they were going to be late. They cleaned everything up before they left.

Barr Landscaping & Lawn Service, Inc.
Paid for lawn care services, response was slow and the lawn care treatments have been behind schedule. They do not notify clients about the delay, or the time frame. The service has been good, but I am not happy with the customer service or response time. Had an estimate for a retaining wall, then estimate was high and based on the timeliness of the lawn care services and the customer service I will not use this company for further work.

    Call-A-Tool Inc
TEN WEEKS later I got my mower back, minus some parts and some other parts replaced with ones they must have found laying around (I assumed they had either broken or lost the parts which were on it originally). I was never called about the status of the mower, I always had to initiate the call. I was told initially the crankshaft broke while it was being looked at so they were going to order a new engine. The owner said he would cover half the cost of the new engine (an admission of guilt in my mind). A few weeks later when I called I was told the engine had arrived and would be put on the next day. The next day when I called I was told they had gotten the wrong engine. So they said they would just replace the crankshaft. The problems didn't stop there but I think you get the picture...Every day was a new problem. There was a point where I considered going to Call-a-Tool, gathering the mower and all the parts which were laying around and taking it to someone who knew what they were doing. Also, once when I called to inquire about it the employee hung up on me. This was customer service at its finest! After all this they had the gall to charge me $55! For what? The bill didn't explain what the charge was for. I paid because I just wanted to "move on". Yes, the mower does work, but not as well as it should. Please, if you care about your tools and lawn equipment, don't take them to Call-a-Tool for repair.

    PRAIRIE EDGE LANDSCAPE
Prairie Edge was great to work with. We hired them on two separate occasions, first for a waterfront retaining wall and stair set, then again for another retaining wall and land prep for native seed planning. All crew members were hard working and respectful of our property. Steve walked us through the his design ideas which were beautiful, broke down the bill to the level of detail requested, provided cost trade off options, and ensured we were happy with the results. We did not get a large number of competitive quotes but did feel that the work, particularly given the detail and expertise, was worth the proposal. $12K for 2014 construction of long keystone four-foot tall keystroke retaining wall, 5 x 7" keystone stairs, cleanup and rock under 18x18 foot deck $13.5K for 2016 construction of large keystone three foot retaining wall around outbuilding, $4.5K for restoration/seeding site prep of almost two acres of land plus trimming of various bushes around house.

Barr Landscaping & Lawn Service, Inc.
I had Spring Green for a while. Although they're cheaper than True Green, they weren't helping enough with weeds and each time there was a different person doing my lawn so there was no consistency or accountability. They spent a few seconds on my back lawn to do spot-weeding but would charge me for a weed and feed(!) My neighbors use True Green, but they are similar to Spring Green; huge outfit with lots of ads and will treat your lawn like they do everyone else's. Also, when I talked to True Green, they did a hard sales pitch and never came out to see my lawn. I finally called Barr and I've never been happier. Jeff met with me and after walking around my property, talked with me in depth about what was going on and what they could do for me. And later, the person they sent out is the same each time and he is also extremely knowledgable. after doing a "real" fertilizing with a spreader and spot-weeding, he suggested I mow higher (and not so close to the ground) and that I do one side of my front lawn *last* since I had dollar spot there 1 1/2 years ago... and be sure to wash the wheels of my mower so I didn't spread it. Of course, no other lawn service had told me that because these big franchises just don't care. Places like Spring Green and True Green need to get in and out and do a lot of lawns to make money and they never customize anything to your specific property. In my case, that means if I had brown spots, I still had brown spots a year later. It's frustrating because unless you're a horticulturist, you don't know why stuff is happening with your lawn--but Barr Landscaping does and they'll customize a treatment plan to your lawn. Price wise, Barr is right in there with Spring Green's price for regular treatments and their price for aeration is close to True Green's. If you have a choice, get it done right. Go for Barr's. Totally wort it.
