    Mordini General Contracting
I am retired after 46 years being a consulting engineer in the construction industry and found Tom Mordini to be a stickler for details and quality of workmanship far above the standards in this field. He was most affable in his personal conduct and on time as to construction time lines. Highly recommend his firm for any general contracting work. He does have a gift of gab with some interesting tales of his life and work anecdotes. Most enjoyable fellow.

    Barts Remodeling & Construction Inc
Expanded existing powder room to add a full sized shower to create a 2nd full bath on main floor of our raised ranch. Work included the removal of a seldom used interior stair to the basement and removal of interior wall. A new closet was created in the basement where the stair was located. New access to the attic was also added. Extensive tile work was done on the expanded bathroom walls along with the floor. Plumbing, painting, and electrical work was also included. The finished product is beautiful. Very happy with the results. This is the second time that we have used Bart. Our original comment still stands: if you want a quality job at a fair price along with courteous and dependable service, then Bart is your guy. The work was completed more quickly than I expected and all of the crew were very dependable and considerate. They were also very respectful in keeping the construction site as clean as possible. Bart is very responsive to any and all questions. He answers both his emails and phone messages in a very timely fashion. When a few issues came up (as is normal), he always worked with us to resolve them. He is very committed to getting things right and really cares about doing a quality job. Its rare to find someone that is so trustworthy. Absolutely would work with Bart again and highly recommend him.

Tom Horn Remodeling, Woodworking, & Carpentry
The projects went extremely well. 1. A separate contractor made several failed attempts to repair the cracks in our oak kitchen cabinets. Each time the cracks returned and became even more visible with time. Tom, took the time to do the job right. He researched the best materials and technique for approaching the job. He discussed everything with us before starting the repair. Using a HEPA vac that is attached to his tools, he made the repairs and left our home dust-free. The repair looks great and we are elated. 2. We have an older home that developed a long crack in a wooden cover for a radiator that is located under a bay window in our living room. Due to the location it was important that the job was done correctly. Tom built a custom replacement cover using poplar to replace the inferior pine (due to the size of the cover it was not possible to use a single piece of wood.) Tom built and pained the cover in his shop and then installed it - it fits like a glove and looks great.

My opinion is very positive of both the end result as well as the process (equally as important when taking on home renovation projects since by nature they tend to add stress to one's life). Bart's involvement is constant and his attention to detail was more than appreciated. His team in the office kept things moving forward and on track while the guys at the house were respectful, clean and efficient. I refer Bart as often as possible to friends and will definitely use him again in the future.

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
Work was completed on our entire basement including demolition of walls, new flooring, painting, new electrical and adding a bathroom. We got estimates from 3 different companies. The Basement Men were lowest price by a substantial margin. In addition, they were available right away and gave a quick timeline for completing the project. This was our first time working with a contractor so there were some growing pains. They were available so quickly and working so quickly that we were a bit unprepared. We didn't have a formal plan for the bathroom at the time they started the work, so it was a bit stressful getting all the materials and fixtures needed. The same two carpenters showed up at our house every weekday for 3 weeks and completed all the work except the drywall which was completed by a different crew, but also was done as scheduled. Steve maintained regular contact throughout the job. Both he and the carpenters were very easy to get a hold of throughout the job. There were a couple of things that were added costs that I thought should have been included or acknowledged in the original estimate. However at the end of the day these guys delivered a quality product for half the price of our next lowest estimate. And our bathroom is freaking incredible!

    DESIGNfirst Builders LLC
This is billed as a one stop shop to cover your remodel needs, and for the most part they deliver that. Sales - We got quotes from 5 different firms. ?This was the most thorough and professional. ?They caught issues in our original design that 3 of the 5 firms did not. ?As such their quote ended up being pretty accurate with the exception of the mandatory fire sprinkler system that my town required (none of the people bidding mentioned it, even the one located in my town). Design - We had a couple selection meetings that went smoothly. ?The Designer had some good ideas. ?Their prices however are not the cheapest, but they do allow you to go elsewhere for things like tile, faucets, etc. ?Though if its not there when their guys show up it will cause delays. ?It also affects the type of warranty they provide however. Permitting - ?They handled most of the mundane permitting issues, but if they get any real push back from the building department they will ask you to deal with it. ?I tried to get out of the fire sprinklers, but failed. ?They were willing to sub that out, but I decided to hire that contractor myself. ?They made it easy to?coordinate?this additional work. Construction - ?From start date the whole process took 4 months. ?This was 1 month longer than their initial estimate of 3 months, which is pretty good considering the extent of the work. ?Other than an issue with the plumber, I didn't have any problems with substandard work, and that issue was corrected. ?Most of the subs were pretty good and showed up when they were supposed to. ?The subs also provided some solid alternatives to the design that made it more functional (a?trapezoidal closet to increase?accessibility, better placement of lights, etc).??Tom the finish carpenter and Nic the tile/floor guy did great work. ?Don (the project manager) was also able to accommodate most of the in field changes we made in short order and had plenty of good suggestion of his own. Responsiveness - ?Never had an issue getting a response from anybody involved within 24 hours, and it was almost always within a couple hours. ?I started to feel bad for the project manager because I would get e-mails at 5am, 11pm, middle of the day Sunday. The one area where I think Design First could use some improvement is in communication between their sales/design staff and their production staff. ?The only real delay in our project was the result of us being unsatisfied with the production staff's proposed ductwork which halted construction for a week while we sorted it out. ?Had the sales/design team conveyed the importance increasing airflow to the second floor, I feel we could have sorted things out before work stopped. ?So if you decide to hire these guys, don't assume that just because you conveyed how important some aspect was to one person on your project they will tell everybody. ? Finished product - We are pleased with how everything turned out. ?It looks great. ?And we will be soliciting a bid in a few years when we get around to do the rest of our house.

    Nyberg Exteriors

Nyberg was fantastic!  I was actually going to get 3 bids on our roof but I liked Andy and Arthur so much that I went with them without getting the other 2 bids.  The crew showed up every morning on time at 7:45am to start at 8am.  They worked their tales off for 5 days usually ending around 7pm.  They maybe took 1/2 hour for lunch.  The crew cleaned up every night before they left and were very pleasant during working hours, if I had a question.  Andy and Arthur showed up every morning and evening to inspect what work had transpired that day.  They both walked the roof for a final inspection which was nice to see.  I want to add that they didn't cut any corners either.  The crew flashed my chimney up about 8" in a pattern that flowed with the brick.  Because of the way my house sits we get ice damning (1923 home - attic was fully insulated prior to the new roof - nothing more we can really do about it except use electric gutter heaters) Nyberg ran 9ft of ice shield up our roof on both sides of the house.  This is a hassle free company to work with and so far the quality of their work looks great and has held up.  I would not hesitate to recommend or use them again.  I think the price was fair for the amount of work done.  You pay for what you get and thus was the case with the work Nyberg did.  I did check with a friend, who is in the roofing business in another state, and he thought the price quoted was fair.  I will also add that I did get a little credit back for some leftover shingles.

siding went well.  very punctual.  no mess left.  Gate latch attached to garage caused some difficulties on siding that area.  At first, a ton of caulking was applied and looked nasty.  After 2 calls back to company, they returned and finished the area to my satisfaction.   Then with big wind storm a few months later, a part of the fascia blew off.  i don't think it was attached well.  There were no nails in the fascia.  But again, 1 phone call and they set up an appointment to return and repair the fascia.  That was completed to my satisfaction.

Very smooth process from start to finish.  Bart accommodated our preference to complete the work with a city-required permit, despite the added hassles it entailed.  Work was completed to my satisfaction down to the last details and the cost was reasonable, and as stated in the estimate.  Would recommend highly.

I have been using Andy Nelson for many years, for all of my home repairs and remodeling. He is a first rate master carpenter and a perfectionist when it comes to construction. He is really easy to work with and is fairly priced. We have recommended him to multiple friends and family members and they have equally had good experiences as well.
My mother in law has used Andy Nelson on some major renovations on her home in Oakbrook and she is a tough customer to please, but Andy had exceeded her expectations.
