    Airoom
We've been working with Airoom since the summer and they've been extremely helpful and highly professional as we've progressed through the Project Development process. Marv Warner (our Senior Project Manager) and Marty Meadow (our Project Development Manager / Designer) have been a pleasure to work with and they've done a great job coming up with a design that meets our family's specific needs. Their extensive experience has already proven to be a tremendous asset; not only in the design phase, but also in addressing new issues as they arise. As I'm sure there will be more surprises along the way, it's reassuring to know Marv and Marty will be there to help us work through them.

This is billed as a one stop shop to cover your remodel needs, and for the most part they deliver that. Sales - We got quotes from 5 different firms. ?This was the most thorough and professional. ?They caught issues in our original design that 3 of the 5 firms did not. ?As such their quote ended up being pretty accurate with the exception of the mandatory fire sprinkler system that my town required (none of the people bidding mentioned it, even the one located in my town). Design - We had a couple selection meetings that went smoothly. ?The Designer had some good ideas. ?Their prices however are not the cheapest, but they do allow you to go elsewhere for things like tile, faucets, etc. ?Though if its not there when their guys show up it will cause delays. ?It also affects the type of warranty they provide however. Permitting - ?They handled most of the mundane permitting issues, but if they get any real push back from the building department they will ask you to deal with it. ?I tried to get out of the fire sprinklers, but failed. ?They were willing to sub that out, but I decided to hire that contractor myself. ?They made it easy to?coordinate?this additional work. Construction - ?From start date the whole process took 4 months. ?This was 1 month longer than their initial estimate of 3 months, which is pretty good considering the extent of the work. ?Other than an issue with the plumber, I didn't have any problems with substandard work, and that issue was corrected. ?Most of the subs were pretty good and showed up when they were supposed to. ?The subs also provided some solid alternatives to the design that made it more functional (a?trapezoidal closet to increase?accessibility, better placement of lights, etc).??Tom the finish carpenter and Nic the tile/floor guy did great work. ?Don (the project manager) was also able to accommodate most of the in field changes we made in short order and had plenty of good suggestion of his own. Responsiveness - ?Never had an issue getting a response from anybody involved within 24 hours, and it was almost always within a couple hours. ?I started to feel bad for the project manager because I would get e-mails at 5am, 11pm, middle of the day Sunday. The one area where I think Design First could use some improvement is in communication between their sales/design staff and their production staff. ?The only real delay in our project was the result of us being unsatisfied with the production staff's proposed ductwork which halted construction for a week while we sorted it out. ?Had the sales/design team conveyed the importance increasing airflow to the second floor, I feel we could have sorted things out before work stopped. ?So if you decide to hire these guys, don't assume that just because you conveyed how important some aspect was to one person on your project they will tell everybody. ? Finished product - We are pleased with how everything turned out. ?It looks great. ?And we will be soliciting a bid in a few years when we get around to do the rest of our house.

He seems to be very knowledgeable and flexible.  He works with you about the project in terms of the budget.  He had an idea of what he was talking;  I was very comfortable knowing that.  He is expert, just having so much knowledge. It was not like he was half knowledgeable and tried to tell us something.

    Budget Right Kitchens
I bought a kitchen design coupon and we scheduled the appointment with one phone call. The next day Tony showed up and took his time (over an hour and 30 minutes) to go over everything before submitting the designs. I have been rehabbing numerous properties over the years and I can tell this company is the real deal. Agnes, one of his designers is also easy to work with and she really knows her stuff. Both of them have great design ideas and Agnes is also very quick replying to my emails. If I wouldn't have chosen already my contractor, Tony would have been on the top of my list.
    Thanks Tony!

Ewa was prompt and pleasant, had some great ideas about possibilities for the remodel of our home.  Since meeting with her we have gone with another architect but she was a strong second choice.

    Airoom

AiRoom was contracted to build a family room on the back of our house.  We have a very small back yard and the addition would occupy most of it so we wanted the largest room that zoning would allow.  AiRoom did the plans but only when I went to city hall to get the building permit did I find out that they had designed the room 1 foot narrower than the maximum allowed by Park Ridge.  It was not a big room to begin with so this made a big difference in the room. AiRoom did adjust the plans accordingly and of course the  price as well.

The job started and finished on time  but AiRoom did not do HVAC so that went to a separate contractor.  The room was designed for radiant floor heat..  The contractor installed the heating pipes and came back to inspect the insulation installed under the pipes.  He told us that the insulation had been installed incorrectly, reflective side down.  AiRoom was informed of the problem and said they would reinstall the insulation.  When the contractor came back to do his final inspection, he told us that the insulation was still installed incorrectly.  After the third try, AiRoom did get it right but I am very glad we had a separate contractor for the heating system.

The addition is now 12 years old and there have been some problems that can happen with an addition like this as it ages.  The roof had been leaking and the door was not working properly.  We contacted AiRoom and after inspecting the problems they fixed them at no charge even though the warranty had expired several years earlier.  We appreciated there prompt attention the problem and their willingness to work with us to fix the issue.

My wife and I worked primarily with Joe LaBelle, and we would recommend him to anyone. DesignFirst was extremely patient with us, making time whenever our schedules allowed to come over to our house and sketch ideas for our home. They spent over 10 hours with us, at our house and at their location in Itasca, without charging us anything. Other companies that we interviewed for similar work all wanted to charge us $3k to $5k before they would even pull out a pen and start sketching ideas. Our time with DesignFirst included a meeting at their design center where we spent four hours walking through several revisions. They had a great system where they could show us 'live' what the outside and inside of the house would look like after the addition. We spent a ton of time working through material lists and detailed plans for the addition.

We put down a deposit for the work (which was estimated at about $120k), but then ultimately cancelled after we decided to move into a different house instead. They gave us a full refund, and they were very understanding. Joe is one of the nicest guys around, very patient at teaching us all about home design and he spent hours helping us think through a number of different options for expanding our house. They have a great team there - we've recommended them to several of our friends, and we'll use them again in the future when we're ready to talk about expanding again.

    Becker Architects, LTD.
Richard Becker responded immediately and set up an appointment at my home in Park Ridge a few days later. Although I'm fairly sure he knew it wouldn't turn into a sale (it was a small/med. size project and I told him I was on a very tight budget), he spent over an hour with me discussing the project, reviewing the existing space, suggesting design options and showing me samples of his work. He was extremely understanding about the budget constraints and even made suggestions about how he could streamline his services to reduce the cost. Although though he was probably the most experienced of the 3 architects I met with, his estimate was very competitive (about the same as one other and much lower than the third). I eventually decided to go with someone else who provided a complete package of services (architecture/planning/construction), but I was very impressed with Richard Becker's attitude and professionalism. If I had had the budget to hire a separate architect I definitely would have chosen his company.

    DEBRA MCQUEEN
Hiring Debra McQueen was a very good experience. She drew some plans for an entry way to be redone, and she also did some budget rehab on an older house we bought. She has excellent prices. She recommended materials. She was very accomodating for her price. She did an excellent job. I would use her again in the future.

Called this firm among others retrieved from Angie's list to get a work started on conversion project. This was the only firm that called. The individual was very professional. He said that they were not able to this project but gave me good suggestions and recommendations.
