House Painting reviews in Palatine

Pretty good, paint job turned out really well, couple minor hick ups around the paint color. A couple items got paint on them that really shouldn't have, but nothing to bad but overall pretty good. We could of had less minor touch up's and a couple things without getting paint on them, we got a little bit of paint on our window shade and our family room couch and a couple things on the floor that we had to try and clean up. They were friendly and professional, they were relatively understanding. We had an issue with one of our paint colors they tried to match from a different paint supplier, and it turned out completely wrong. They were able to change the color and redo it and add another day to the project but we had to pay another $800 to do it. If we were in a pinch we would use them, if we had time we would probably research a different company.

My mother, brother, sister and I all have used Linda & Leonard for years and have always been extremely satisfied. They have painted every inch of our houses, inside and out and made numerous installations of various fixtures. I recently recommended them to a friend who is very picky about paint jobs and he was extremely impressed. I find everything the negative reviewer said to be difficult to believe. I would trust Linda with any paint job and Leonard with all handyman services.

The work was completed in a timely fashion, but the workmanship in the concrete work was very poor. The gutters were not attached to the house correctly and the house was not protected properly from the rain when the roof was open. The forms were removed from the steps before the concrete had set, this caused the concrete to sag. The repair was to grind the concrete to make it level and then coat it with a topping material. The gutter problem was resolved by attaching more hangers. The work was done in the fall 2011. In the spring of 2012 we noticed that the paint on the columns was peeling. Jeff sent his employee over to repaint the columns. In the fall of 2012, we noticed that the paint was peeling again. Jeff repainted them. In the spring of 2013 the paint failure was noticed again. Another repaint was done. The warranty on his work ended in the fall of 2013 and the paint was still peeling. Jeff refused to solve the problem. The coating on the concrete porch is now peeling and the sidewalk is sinking due to improper compacting and a poor base. Our Architect did a great job improving the curb appeal and Jeff gave us assurances that he would do quality work. He was responsive while we owed him money, but would not even talk to us after the warranty expired. I felt that since the paint problems were found during the warranty time, they should have been taken care of. A paint job should last more than 6 months.

The exterior painting project began late May 2016. In the contract it mentioned that the painters would keep me up to date on the progress but throughout the entire process nobody contacted other than asking for the payment. The painters were very unprofessional leaving cigarette butts in my yard, cleaning their brushes on my plants in the backyard, and parking on my grass. At the end of June the project was rushed because the owner wanted the final payment. I mentioned to him that there were many areas which were not painted correctly and needed to be touched up. He said he would address those by July 1 and wrote the specific items down on the back of the contract. I gave him a check but as it turned out nobody showed up on July 1. When they did show up it was not until July 9th. But as the painter was doing the touch up work he spilled paint on my plants on the front yard and worse, got paint all over one of my windows. Some of the paint from the window was cleaned up but the screen still has stains on it as and the frame siding is definitely a different shade now than prior to this project. I reported this issue to the owner on July 9 and he said he would address it. Nothing was done about this until I asked him again on July 19. He responded on July 21 and said the they are aware of this and will stop by to clean it up. Again, nothing. I asked again on July 27 and the response was that they are "on it". However, nobody called me or stopped by. Again, I asked August 11. There was no response until August 15 and the answer was that it will be taken care of the week of August 15. So far, as of August 24, I have not heard back.

FRAUD - THEFT BY DECEPTION - STOLE $4,000 - NO RETURNED CALLS I entered into contract with Jared Spears, owner of BUILDER SERVICES located at 1613 High View Ave | Suite B in McHenery, Illinois; 1-708-699-4527 for a construction job. After Jerard Spears AKA: BUILDER SERVICES received my check deposit of $4,000, he cashed the check, stole my funds and I never heard from him again after several attempts.

Andy, Anne, and the staff with whom they work go out of their way to meet the needs of their clients. They are honest and ethical. The resources they suggested for cabinets and countertops were excellent.  They are good listeners and problem solvers.  Our condo requires specific procedures and Board approvals that were handled without issue. During the remodeling, there were a few surprises, such as a cast iron bathtub that was hiding under an enclosure.  They quickly devised an alternate solution for removal.  The work was completed on time.  We felt completely comfortable dealing with all of their crew.

We got off to a slow start due to weather.  Once the crew arrived they were great.  All soffets and fascia were power washed, primed and painted as were our new shutters (the crew mounted them too).  Once the exterior was finished they moved inside.  the walls were cleaned, drywall was repaired and sanded as needed (no dust - they used a HEPA vacuum) and painted.  While we moved most of the furniture as needed for the day the crew did need to move some thing and were extremely careful.  The results were spectacular.  On top of all this we have 3 cats and 2 dogs none of which were a problem.  Chris' crew was excellent - the results showed.  I would definately use them again.

    HPO Painting
*Update to review. HPO has been in contact with me regarding the issues noted in this review and has made things right.

When they knew the work was going to start, they come out and power-wash the entire work area, this was done a few days ahead of the work.
Then a crew came out to start the work a team of about 3-4 people to start then it went down to a 2 person crew to finish the job. They sanded, scraped, primed the work area and replaced the posts that were rotted. The work was done Thurs/Friday and needed to be carried over until the following Monday. The job took 3 full days to complete.
The paint job and prep was done pretty well. I had one problem with they paint job itself. One area appeared to not be fully coated, meaning I could see brush marks and the old paint or surface under the new paint in spots. This is on the front of our home. When I brought this to their attention (The morning after the job was complete. The job was finished when it was dark and I could not see the work) I was told the quote was for one coat of paint and to come back to add another coat to that area it would be another $75. I was also told that they added two coats in other areas even though the quote was for one. While I appreciate that they did that, isn't it their job to get the quote right in the first place? I have no clue if  the home needed one coat or two, that's why I hire a professional and got a quote. So somehow they made me feel like they did me a favor by adding more paint and that they went above and beyond. Instead it made me feel like they didn't quote correctly and a very visible area of my home was not done fully. If areas needed more than one coat to get the job done correctly, tell me. Ring the doorbell, they knew I was home and could have informed me.
Here's where I was really not thrilled with the professionalism:
    - They left a sweatshirt draped over my neighbors fence, over the weekend
    - Trash on the side of my home (cups of coffee and pop) This really upset me, this is my home.
    - Did not put items back where they were, planters, decor on my steps etc. (left items in my front yard for me to put back)
    - Placed home address back on post CROOKED. They explained that one screw would not be able to be put back on our 7 because it was stripped. I said to put the numbers back up anyway and we will replace the one screw. When I noticed all of our numbers were not up properly, they said I was informed about one screw which would account for one number being crooked. Then told me another screw could not be replaced and they could come back and fix this if I wanted them to. Even the number that has both screws is not up straight. A screw is sticking out of that number and it simply is poor quality. Again this is on the front of our home.
I get that we signed up to have the work done during a busy season, and the daylight savings didn't help with time. I don't think I am in the wrong to expect things to done right and well. Or for my personal items to be placed back to where they were, how they were, at least close to how they were. When I ask a professional to provide a quote it's because I can't do the work myself and I want it to be done well and right. It's their job to figure out how that needs to be done.
In the end I did not agree to have them come back out to add another coat of paint because it will cost me more money on top of the $2100 I already spent.
When I brought a few of these issues to their attention, their explanations for them only left me to fee like I was in the wrong and it was somehow my fault. That's not a good feeling as a customer.
Reading through all of the other great reviews, I feel bad even writing a bad one. Maybe the busy season might have affected the quality for this particular job, I don't know.
A little advice to HPO, do a walk around the home to make sure items are put back, inform the customer if additional work has to be done above and beyond the quote. For the reasons above, I can't recommend them and would not ask them for another quote.

Certain Pro Painters have done an excellent job in painting the interior of my home in Palatine. Eric's team of Fabio and Luis have painted several rooms in my home on two different occasions. They were very neat in cleaning up and putting away their supplies every evening and always arrived on time every day. They were polite and respectful of my family and my home. Their work was of high quality and my house looks beautiful.
