After sending a man out to look at the job I waited for my quote. I was called back and told they no longer do concrete work anymore. I was confused as to why they sent anyone out in the first place if they didn't have anyone to do the work.

    Master Craft Concrete
Provider did not sow up when promised.  Multiple excesses.  Requires that the permit be pulled in homeowners name.    Phase one of patio removal and setting up of concrete forms was done poorly.  Foul language between workers was consistent.  Entire base of patio is now being redone by a new company.  Thomas Ratz is the sole contact for the company and has an arrest from the State of IL for consumer homeowner fraud.  Master Craft Concrete was incorporated in April of 2016 however web site states 25 years of experience.  Business Address in incorrect as it should be Beau Ridge Dr

    Bald Eagle Construction
I needed a new porch because the corners had begun to crumple at the corners that support the rails.  I contacted Kevin at Bald Eagle Construction because he had done work for me before, and I knew them to be excellent.
Kevin went to the house (an income property home) and sent me an estimate.  We discussed it, came up with a final figure, and agreed he would do the work.  He called me a few days before they were going to do the work, and let me know when they would start.
I wish I could say all went well, but we had a wrinkle.  The mail carrier decided to toss the mail on the porch and put a ding in the new porch.   I called Kevin, and he told me that patching cement was tricky, but the guy went out and tried.  He did a rather
horrible job, so I called Kevin who told me that it would get better over time.  I think Kevin didn?t understand how bad it really was, so I sent him a photo.   They were out the next day, and it looks much, much better.
I mention this to highlight Kevin?s willingness to fix a problem.  I don?t think he knew how bad it was when I initially expressed serious concerns.  But I think that picture was worth a thousand words.  And he responded.

    Ortega's Concrete Inc
Family owned father and son business. Son speaks perfect English and there were no problems with the quoting process. He was knowledgable and friendly. After the quote is signed, the father handles the rest of the job. His English makes him difficult to understand, athough he clearly knows what he's doing with concrete. Got 3 different quotes and pricing was extremely competitive for this contractor. Communication wasn't great - we went several weeks between digging the foundation and the acutal pour. Some of that was the fault of the village inspectors. The rest of the delay was caused by who-knows-what... getting a schedule update was difficult. They finally arrived to do the pour and that night was a major thunderstorm. We are completely clueless about concrete... the rain was coming down so hard that it appeared the concrete stamping had been washed away. In reality, the washout effect was caused by the release coloring pooling in the stamp marks. It was all fixed with a simple power wash, which they did a few days later. Looking back, it's obvious would have to use fast setting concrete, otherwise they'd be having to repour patios every week due to weather. But we were new this process - clear communication would have saved us from a night of mild depression over the "destruction" of our new patio. They obtained the building permit, so they were supposed to submit the patio for final inspection to the village. This was never done. I got a letter from the village like 6 months after the job was finished saying there was no final inspection. The village came out and approved the job, but it should have been taken care of by the contractor. End result was a beautiful patio that we're thrilled with. I just wish the communication was a little better.
