  • After joining Angie's List I did contact a plumber and a landscape company from your list...none of the landscape companies every returned my email. The plumber did and I was so thrilled with his work. only to find out that he doesn't belong to Angie's list, but is there because his customer's have put him there. I had no problem with this, I was more than overjoyed with his work and with him. So, I get these emails from Angie's List that list services that are available at discount prices or have coupons. One of them was to hire a handyman for 2 hours for $89. I contacted them and received 3 or 4 different responses for the handyman services, each a different person. I was concerned that I was going to have different contractors show up, but thru an email from them they assured me they were all the same. Why several people within a company would respond and not just one kind of sent up a red flag, but I thought Angie's List...it will be okay. During a follow up call from the contractor I explained what I needed done. I was then told that if they went over the 2 hours I would be charge $45/hour and that I had to supply all tools & materials to complete the jobs that I wanted done. I said ok and explained that there was a Menards & Home Depot 5 minutes from the house...they said they would go shopping if I didn't have everything. As I didn't want them to go shopping and it be part of my 2 hours, I did purchase all the materials/supplies they would need. I was then informed they do not have any tools and I would have to supply all of those...WHAT? Your a handyman and you don't have any tools? Okay....but this is Angie's List, so again, I though it would be okay. So two gentlemen came out one elderly and the other young. I explained that I had a picture to be hung over the fireplace, a 12 x 12 inch drywall hole to be patched and a ceiling fan to be installed. The elderly gentleman assured me that I had the right young man for ceiling fan installation. I'm concerned and have an unsettling feeling. I live out in the suburbs and they came from the inner city...I wondered why Angie's List didn't have any handymen in the general area of where I live. I gathered the supplies & tools and they set to work on the picture over the fireplace. As he starts, he just going to make holes...I stopped him and told him how to measure so that it was centered. It took 3 tries to get it centered and even...each time he came and asked me what I thought and each time I told him it was centered & straight. I couldn't believe he thought each one was acceptable to have me approve it. I had just had my house painted so this was a newly painted wall, and I don't want to see the amount of holes behind that picture. The picture is not exactly centered, but good enough that I can live with it. We moved on to patching the drywall....he did do a good job of cutting out the drywall, but he used tape (which he didn't need), but instead of cutting the tape he ripped it and put so much mud on that he never finished the job, 'cause the mud never dried in time. This still is not fixed. So he now moved on to the ceiling fan to be installed. This is where I really got concerned that I needed to get them out of my house: 1. It took (the both of them) 2 hours to read the directions on how to install the ceiling fan. 2. He didn't know which wires to attach together, so the older gentleman tried to help him by reading the instructions with him and trying to decipher the electrical part. Now I'm scared. 3. He was going to attach the wires within the extension rod for the fan with just caps. (I was concerned of the possibility of a electrical fire occurring -- my husband is an electrical engineer) They didn't know how to install the remote control apparatus because I didn't have a string hanging down from the fan. I showed him that the fan speed and lights were controlled by a switch on the wall....it was like he never saw that and exclaimed...Miss Kathie, you got it in the wall? I had enough and I politely told them that I would have my husband do it and that I didn't want them to proceed any further. So, 4 hours later all they got done was hang a picture and put some drywall up. They did not charge me for the extra 2 hours because the older gentleman said that they read instructions for that long. Upon their leaving I find out that the elderly gentleman (who just sat in my kitchen most of the time -- other than helping the younger man read the fan instructions) is not the owner of the business, but in fact the father. His son had gotten a job and the father said he would run the business for him on the side. I thought I was hiring a "handyman" for various work only to find out that the name of the company was Handyman, but when he handed me a business card, it said Superman.... I was so happy when they left and felt like I ended up right where I started only worse. I thought it odd that Angie's list never did follow up with me as to how satisfied I was with the work. So, at that point I decided that maybe Angie's List is not all it's suppose to be.

  • They painted the living room and the foyer. They were really good. They were clean and neat. They filled in nails and cracks, nail points and painted. They cleaned up the work. They will bring a three by three foot or two by two foot wear and ask if that is the color you want. I had done three comparisons and they were mid range. The use sentimental products which i like. They are top service. I didn't find anything negative about them. They even did a nice job with my nitty titty little things. When you hire them for interior work, they are linked up with a woman who is an interior designer. They are timely.

  • It was great! He was very punctual, on time, and was able to arrive the next day after calling him to complete the work. He was very personable and polite. He did a great job and I would hire him again. I would recommend him to others.

  • I was extremely satisfied with their service. I was very happy they came in and looked up the place and they freed the rooms that they would do each day so that if I had to move something I could get it moved in time and it went extremely well.

  • Beauty and the Brush came highly recommended so we called them.  Bill, the owner, said he would come over to our home on a Saturday at 9:00 a.m. to go over the work and give us an estimate.  He showed up EXACTLY at 9:00 and was as professional as could be.  The estimate was very reasonable and the outline of the work to be done was very thorough.  We accepted the bid and the work was started within 3 days after that.
Bill and his assistant, Tony, showed up promptly at the predetermined time (all 3 days) and the work was completed in 2 1/2 days (it's a big area and there was some patchwork and sanding that also needed to be done.)
The job they did was incredible...it looks beautiful.  And they cleaned up after like it was their own home.  And it's done just in time for our annual Super Bowl party.
I highly, and without hesitation, recommend Beauty and the Brush for all of your painting and drywall needs.

  • Recon Solutions, Inc. , via Keith Witkowski, Project Manager and Dan Rocha, Production Manager, arranged to have my unit restored. This company was sensational! They made all of the arrangements and made certain everything went smoothly, from the painting to the installation of some electrical work. They are a terrific general contractor and I recommend them highly, especially if you have severe damage to your home. They are a concerned, knowledgeable, overly competent group of people and they really care about their customers. Hire them - you won't be sorry!

  • Kevin was on time for the estimate - a touch late for the actual job as he waited for a co-worker. The job took two days (drying time). It was well done and the area was cleaned. We will be using him again.
