Cabinet Making reviews in Oakbrook Terrace

It went extremely well. Kyle the owner was exceptionally polite, broke down every detail so we knew exactly what we were doing and how the pricing worked. He was very efficient on time. His employee he had working with him was also very polite and a hard worker. There was a ton of little details he did and it turned out amazing, you could see that he custom makes everything to your wants and needs. I would definitely hire him again and recommend him to anyone!

    Top Notch Remodeling Inc
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR HIGH QUALITY WORK DONE TO CODE, THIS IS NOT THE COMPANY FOR YOU. If you are seeking a contractor for a large project and are considering working with Top Notch, please please please read this review in full. We just ended our contract with this company due to plumbing being installed incorrectly, lack of communication and shortcuts being taken during installation. We were SHOCKED to have our experience be so negative because of all the positive reviews here on Angies list. Although we genuinely liked Mike, Chris and the crew they brought in, the work was not up to the standard we desired (nor did it meet code as Mike said it would). We hired Top Notch for a complete basement remodel at roughly $38,000 and the work began in late August 2016. By mid September, we could tell something wasnt right when we were experiencing plumbing issues; horrible smells & we realized no plumber had come out to truly look at our plumbing (as discussed with Mike during our consultation). We have a 1920s bungalow and the plumbing we had was a mess and Mike knew this. He said his guys would take a look and tell us our best way to handle it (and if we needed to bring somebody else in). We waited and waited and no one talked to us about the plumbing situation -they just kept doing work and one day my husband saw them walk in and start installing an ejector pump. Heres what happened. Top Notch added additional things to our already terrible plumbing system in a way that was not up to code (more on that below), but we ultimately got lucky. We actually had an issue arise at the exact right time that forced us to get a second opinion (it was because we brought in the second opinion during construction that we were able to catch the issues with the Top Notch work). If we hadnt experienced the other problem, we wouldnt have caught some of these less noticeable issues with Top Notch. If we had continued with them, these issues with plumbing (and some electrical) would have been hidden behind the drywall and beautiful tiles they installed in our laundry room and bathroom. These guys definitely know how to frame, hang drywall, install basic electrical & basic plumbing, (and they were in the process of completing a very nice looking bathroom) but they ran our kitchen sink/dishwasher straight into an ejector pump (upstairs line into a downstairs pump, against code), added a bizarre plumbing vent to the side of our house that faced into our garden (against code, should have gone up to the attic), and picked a low quality ejector pump without even asking our opinion on what we would like. Perhaps in some cases the home owner would have been okay with these decisions, but we repeatedly told Mike we wanted things done to code. He talked us out of permits when he provided us a quote. He promised us that things would still be done to code during the remodel and he was here saying all this to us and our two young kids (we thought they would follow through on their word Lesson learned, we will never do a project without permits again). We also told the crew repeatedly that there was something worse going on with the plumbing after they installed the ejector pump and although they looked at it, I could tell that they werent being completely honest with us. When we said we were bringing in the plumbers weve previously used to get a second opinion, we got the sense that they knew it wasnt going to turn out good for them. The guys cleaned up all their tools that day and Chris collected a payment from us (they left literally a couple hours BEFORE the plumbers arrived to assess the situation and their work). Heres the thing these are nice, professional, approachable and easy to talk to guys. Mike was very professional and polished in his pitch, had great ideas & was open to our ideas. There was ample communication in the beginning stages of this process. We had quotes from multiple contractors and chose Top Notch because we felt we could trust them and that they would give us QUALITY work (mostly due to the reviews here on Angies list). Not all of the work that these guys do is bad.and perhaps we just got stuck with a crew that was new and was making mistakes, BUT this review can save you a lot of trouble down the road and will allow you to take the necessary precautions you need if you choose to work with Top Notch. Best Advice: TAKE PICTURES every step of the way (dont let them put up drywall before you do this). Have Electrical, Plumbing & Heating & A/C double checked. Ask to be kept in the loop on the decisions being made AS THEY ARE BEING MADE. Double check the contract and make sure you understand what the allowances entails. To make a long story short, we emailed Mike right away when we discovered the plumbing errors. It was kind of dramatic because we hadnt noticed the crazy vent they had put onto the side of our house into our garden. That was the final straw for us. we could rationalize why they got the cheaper pump without talking to us, and even installing of the kitchen line into the ejector pump (hoping that it was because they didnt know better), but the hole they put in the side of our home directly into our garden for the plumbing vent was beyond horrible. We ended our contract because we had lost trust in the company AND we didnt feel comfortable working with them further. I asked Mike to respond by email (which he did) and he said he agreed with some of what I was saying and wanted to talk in person. Obviously, it would have been better for us to have everything documented and in writing (for him, not so much). From other reviews (in places other then Angies List), I realized that Mike was an expert at convincing people to let them finish out the work and that wasnt what we wanted to happen. We thanked him for wanting to talk and finish out the work, but said we werent interested in them finishing the work. I also provided some genuine feedback to Mike and Top Notch because we really did love the people and we hope that they prioritize doing work to code (even when there are no permits which seems to be the push nowadays by all the contractors we met with). A few weird and random things worth mentioning..the contract has places where it says allowances. There was confusion for us around this because we initially thought that those allowances were accounted for in the payment schedule. We were asked during the remodel project to purchase: toilet, sink, mirror, shower faucet, sink faucet, floor tiles & shower tiles. The allowances were not subtracted out of the payment schedule and it was very confusing for us. Also, we paid in cash through a check for all the services rendered. We did mention to Chris that we might need to use a credit card for part of the payment at the end. His response was to see if we could get one of those checks from the credit card company so that they didnt incur the fee (this totally made sense). However, he ALSO told us, if we werent able to and we used a credit card we would be charged the fee for the percent they take and they would add it back on to our total payment. This seemed kind of shady to us because they advertise that they take credit card, but then they charge you for doing it? Im not sure that this is even legal. Anyways, nice guys, sub-par work with bad communication. We wouldnt hire them again or recommend them. PS One photo has been included of the weird bizarre vent from the plumbing on the side of our house into our private garden.

    Neighborhood Remodelers
This was my first major remodel project and the first thing I have to say is Luke, Mike and Walter were fantastic! While there was only a snag or two overall it went so much better then I thought it would. I have heard many people have horror stories about remodeling projects and things going very wrong. With N.R. This project went so smooth, I could not be happier with how the process went and the end result!
Walter worked like lightning and knocked it out with perfection and speed! Mike was always there and helpful when I had questions and Jill was a great help with picking out just the right cabinets. I can't say enough about the work Walter did, the tile work is absolutely beautiful! He really takes pride in what he does and it shows. I also came in under budget with the help of mike who was always willing to work with me and the whole team are just fantastic to work with.
I would and have recommend N.R to friends and family and when I redo my kitchen they will be the first company I call.
Everyone should already do this if you are taking on a large project but I will stress it, do your own homework and research on the appliances or products you want and be realist in what can and cannot be done.
Thank you again to everyone at N.R!!!

    GW Interior Remodeling
From the contractor's (Greg Witek) responsiveness to my first phone call to the last minute of clean-up, this group was a delight to work with. My husband was impressed with the fact that every morning they gathered and parked on the street at least a half hour before work was to begin (the crew all came from different parts of the city), and daily at 7:59 am, they were at the back door ready to go. They covered everything with plastic and/or tarps, removed their shoes when in other parts of the home. Each member of the crew is respectful and upbeat. They work steadily the entire day - no time wasting.

The thing that most sets Greg apart from other remodelers is that he has VISION and CREATIVITY. He offers his ideas but will always do what the consumer asks, no attitude. When encountering problems (and in a 1950's home, there will be plenty of problems!), he is intelligent and creative in coming up with workarounds, knowledgeable about current code requirements. The quality of work is excellent; Greg and his group strive to please and will change or re-do anything with which you are not 100% satisfied.

A decorator from JC Licht saw the new kitchen after it was complete, and she raved about the quality of work done plus the little extra touches (for example, trim on the bottom edges of the upper cabinets, tiled design Greg fashioned over the stove, plus attention to detail throughout); she said it was truly a designer kitchen.

Because they work steadily and fast, my advise to anyone using this group is to have your materials on hand BEFORE they begin the job. Once we agreed to have Greg remodel the kitchen, he took me shopping to help choose flooring, granite, and cabinets. Then we waited the 6 weeks for our cabinetry order to arrive. Once the demolition actually began, they were in and out in 2 weeks! No little loose ends left-undone.

Treat Greg and his crew respectfully and kindly and they will exceed your expectations (I had snacks, drinks and coffee available at all times which was much appreciated by each of them.)

This was the second time we used this provider, and I will definitely be calling him for future projects.

They did an excellent and terrific job. Everything from the designs to the completion of the job was according to what I wanted and it was good. They provided good customer service and they were very timely. They completed the job in three weeks as promised.

    ADEL WOODWORK INC
I described my project to them via email, and Geri replied promptly to let me know that he could make me what I needed and asked me to call him. I called about a week later and set up an appointment for him to come by and do an estimate. He arrived on time, took measurements, and listened to the details of what I wanted. He was very flexible and provided quotes for several different finish options later the same day. Compared to the other quotes I got for this job, Geri's price was the lowest. It seemed almost too good to be true, and I was worried that quality would suffer. In the end I decided to go with a cabinet maker who had more experience with the style and period of my home though his price was a few thousand higher.
