House Painting reviews in Oak Lawn

Had a great first visit and talked about the work needed to be done. Was given a start date and a timetable but not a quote. Emailed, texted and called for a quote because the start date was approaching, nothing. About 10 days later received a text that there was a death in the family and Joel had to leave for Tennessee to handle some things and he wasnt sure how long he would be gone. 1) Terrible communication on his part 2) I dont believe a word of it. Sounds to me he found something easier or more to his skill level. Now Im behind a few weeks.

Juan and his team were quick and provided excellent quality work. Juan reviewed the project before hand with me and ensured everything was completed to my satisfaction afterwards. Would highly recommend to any one looking for painting services!

    Precise Painting and Restoration
Very responsive. Within minutes of requesting a quote on Angie's list I received a text from Juan. He said that he could come out the very next morning (which was Saturday) to look at the job. He explained what he could do and gave some info as to why and what to expect. I accepted the quote and 10 days later he came out and got the job done. It looks great.

    Duerr Decorating & Construction
This was a multi-stage process since I was also remodeling.  John removed wallpaper in kitchen and entry to basement.  did lots of prep work and touch up and repainted both areas.  Also painted living room, dining room and exterior shutters.  when I noticed some unusual colorations coming through the wall several months after painting completed (related to chemicals under old wall paper) John came back and repainted the area with no further recurrences.

I just wanted to get the trim around some exterior windows painted, I bought the paint as the painter instructed & every time I contact him about possibly doing the job he says the weather isn't & won't be cooperating. Its 50+ degrees and completely dry on those days where he says the weather isn't cooperating & he says he is waiting for an unusually warm streak to occur. Realistically you're not going to get a 90 degree day in November & I have been outside painting the trim on the lower levels with no problem, I just didn't want to get on a ladder to do the 2nd story windows which I figured I'd hire a pro to do. So I figure it's best for me to cancel this big deal, find someone else, & let him wait for this miracle blazing hot day in November that he needs in order to paint by himself.

    Budget Right Handyman
The company was hired for four hours of painting the wood deck, while out of town. Upon return, it was noted that painter stopped painting midway on the rails (about two inches from the end of the railing)
Wife of contractor called and wanted additional money for painting supplies.

We've hired John previously and knew this would turn out the same as the last project, totally perfect!  We are having a new driveway installed and wanted to have the iron handrails painted before being reinstalled.  Also, the pain was coming off the outside of the enclosed porch and needed to be repainted.  Everything was done exactly as we wanted it done.

    Patro Construction Group Inc
Overall Patro Construction Inc. did very good quality work for a fair and honest price. I especially appreciated the very prompt responsiveness we received from Roman on any queries whether via phone, email or otherwise. All workers was fun to talk and work with, clean and organized. He clearly makes an effort to make each of his customers feel as though they are his number one priority. I will definitely consider Patro Construction for future work and recommend to others.

I called John stating that there were repairs that needed to be made under the warranty and that I needed some other minor touch up because of gutter repairs.  Although it is the contractor's obligation to list all items on a proposal, John  did not list any of the repairs on the 1st proposal of Aug. 30, 2011 and therefore I faxed proposal back  asking him to list all of the touch up spots and where.  (Contractors who do not state all items often do that so that they have leeway in getting out of work and  that is why Illinois law states all work is to be detailed so that the consumer has a clear understanding of the work to be done.)  John  did not respond and so I  sent  a fax with all repairs listed on Sept. 8, 2011.
He then sent me a 2nd proposal  that I received Sept. 9, 2011 stating  "Nothing on rear of  house"  which eliminated painting the rear gutter and lowered the cost by $60. and also missed a couple of the repairs.    I faxed the second proposal  back to him stating he deleted rear gutter painting, with OK of light rinse on siding and bricks as I have a soft brick, and pointing out that a couple of the repairs were missed.  Sept. 13, 2011,  John sent me a letter with a check for $75. to cover the cost of the repairs instead of doing the work and withdrawing his proposal for the new work.
I want that repair work done and expect him to make
good his warranty.  I don't know what to think of the new work.   The agreed repairs consist of cracking paint on garage door diamond trim (missed the chipped paint on garage door); 3 support joists with cracking paint;  front door sidelites - caulk and touch up bottom joints;    touch up front downspout;  touch up caulk - 1 spot; touch up windows boxes on second story (did not detail peeling on diamond trim and shrinking paint on underside  of diamond trim on window boxes on second story).  That check of $75. does not cover the cost of the warranty work that needs to be done.     We both missed a spot on the front gutter that needs to be touched up.  I do want the repair work to be done under the warranty.
The new work to be done and on John's  first proposal was to use a pressure washer to give a light rinse to all exterior surfaces for $275.    For $390. he would  apply 2 coats of primer/ paint to new gutter (30 feet on 2nd story) and downspout (20 feet)  and downspout (6 feet) on rear of house.  Also  re-paint areas on south side where downspout was removed ,  labor only as I have the paint.  The new work totaled $665.00
John's  letter of Sept. 13, 2011  also stated that the original painting proposal for the new work of Sept. 2011 was withdrawn because of continuing changes to original painting proposal.   It was definitely his fault that he did not  itemize all work to be done on  the original proposal which would have made the proposal forthright and transparent.   Consequently,  I did ask that all repairs be listed on a second proposal.   The 2nd proposal missed the new gutter on 2nd floor, chipped paint on garage door, etc. and so needed to be clarified.      Because the initial proposal of $4125. for painting the house was quite forthright and transparent ,  I would expect the same for additional proposals, but there is some disconnect.
Continuing, I immediately called John when I got the letter of Sept. 13, 2011 and left a message stating that the $75. check was unacceptable and inappropriate as was the canceling of the new work and discount of the warranty work.   He did not respond.
I will add, the house does look good except for the repairs and the new painting that is needed.    John of Jondec has the knowledge to do a professional job, ie  using the right roller sleeve to paint aluminum siding so that there is not an orange peel effect,  caulking the front sidelight so that the paint will adhere, etc.    Another setback was that there was a problem
getting the paint color that I wanted.  I resolved that problem by  buying  the paint at my paint store as Jondec's paint store was not able to  match the color I wanted for the trim which included gables,  shutters, fascia, window boxes and garage door.
I expect this to be resolved.  The overall experience is not good and  I would not recommend using  him as he needs to do what he says he will do when he warrants his work and gives proposals.

    Cobra Complete Construction Corp.
The whole house was remodeled after fire damage. Cobra Complete Construction performed most of the work on the house. I was extremely satisfied with the work and advice I reveived from Cobra Corp. This was a major remodeling and I was totally suprised by the time it took to complete this job. I thought it would take much longer, but the dates I was promised by Cobra Complete Construction were met. I recommend this company because of it's quality work and reasonable price.
