They are tidy, reliable, and responsive when we have issues.  I needed educating on managing my pool and they did that very well. Billing is via email and always fair.  You need to ask how much repairs will cost ahead of time.  Some repairs or equipment swaps were done with my knowledge, but I didn't know the cost until I got the bill.

Rick Olandese approached our large project with a professional attitude and outstanding communication. He came on time and kept in touch with us on a regular basis.  As we all know, maintaining and operating a pool can mean unexpected problems - everything from weather to parts that don't seem to fit. Rick took full responsibility of the entire project, working closely with Ed Morrison to ensure our happiness. When things didn't go as planned, Ed returned graciously - even on the weekend - to fix skimmer and heater issues we couldn't figure out. They are both warm and friendly, incredibly easy to contact and an absolute pleasure to work with. Owning and operating small businesses is the bread and butter of our community and it is a pleasure to recommend these outstanding service people. Both gentleman deserve an A plus for the quality of work and professionalism.

    Quality Pool Maintenance
The original cover was old and in disrepair.  We purchased the home with an older pool and the existing cover.  The original cover was never installed correctly and it was a safety hazard instead of a safety cover.  Mike suggested a design fix and quoted, ordered the materials and personally worked on and supervised the installation.  He and his crew did an excellent job and now we have a pool cover that is installed correctly and also looks nice.

Mike was able to do this because of his years of experience with my account.  We started with him on a reference and moved away for one year to save money.  After realizing our mistake we moved back permanently.  Pools are expensive and we have found that QPM's work is excellent.  They are always on time and charge a fair price.  The other legitimate vendors charge more money for openings closing and weekly service.  On larger jobs like the above cover, Mike's quote was cost plus service.  Other vendors would charge double.

    Russo's Pool & Spa Inc
I scheduled a training because I started to feel like I was getting gyped by my other pool guy.  He started out friendly enough and offered a good rate.  Little did I know it was a sucker to get me in the door.  I was swamped at work and signed up for weekly maintenance under the impression that he would teach me how to do it asap.  Somehow he was never available to do the training at the times I was and insisted he could only do the maintenance when on days I was unavailable.  Mysteriously my chemicals would never be sufficient and he would upcharge me to use his.  Even more mysteriously, additional problems kept happening to my pool...so I finally had enough and called around to find someone else to train me.
Most of Russo's competitors were either unresponsive, unprofessional or too expensive ($300 for a training, are you kidding me??!)  So I went to Russo's.  They were prompt, responsive, and scheduled the appointment.  I actually had to cancel last minute and they kindly just rescheduled it for the next week.
The following Friday morning (my appointment date) Cruz called me to tell me that he had to cancel appointments on account of the poor weather, but could come out the next day (Saturday).  On Saturday he showed up at the scheduled time and gave me a courtesy call about an hour in advance.  Cruz was extremely knowledgeable, patient and kind.  He walked me through everything and re-explained things a couple times to make sure I got it.  He labeled each part with a sharpie so I wouldn't forget and waited patiently as I took notes.  He has a good sense of humor, is kind and professional.
I will definitely be using Russo's for all my future needs (openings and winterizings, maintenance, etc.)
This is the company to trust!

    Mack Land, LLC
I was referred to Mack Landscape (Tyler) by a pool installer who contracts with him to remove pools.  Tyler was quick to come out for a quote and provide 2 options for entering the yard -- one through a neighbor's yard and the other by tearing out an overgrown tree.  We opted for the tree, and he removed it and covered the area with mulch throughout the duration of our project.  The whole thing took about a week.  They removed sections of the fence (which they then replaced), removed an overgrown, poorly placed vegetable garden (left by the previous owners - we just bought the house and were happy to have it gone), drained the pool, broke up the bottom of the pool, broke up the top 3' feet of the pool walls, tore out the rebar, added gravel and then contracted with another pool company to get the dirt from a pool they were digging that day.  He compacted the area throughout the project.  Topped it with seed and straw for erosion control, put the fence back, and did some additional fence repair work, unrelated to the pool project.  Removed shrubs that had overgrown the side walk/path as well as ones that were out of place in the front of the house.Along the way he advised about other landscaping issues he saw in the yard, especially relating to grading.Since we completed this job, we have decided to take on other projects and were quick to call Tyler.  GREAT experience.

It's now 9 months later and Tyler has returned to make sure the lawn continues to fill in.  Great customer service.

    NORTH SHORE POOL & SPA
This pool and spa company provides service and sells related products. They are one of a few dealers in the area and I really wish there was more competition because this company has clearly forgot the basic principles of small business and have started acting more like Wall Street. I bought two containers of spa chemicals, a 32 oz container of Sani Brom and a 36 oz container of Sani Start. For both these items they charged me $19.95 each. I have 10 month old containers of these products in my garage from this company and they were labeled $9.95 and $13.95 ea. They have almost doubled the price in less than a year. Since I was having company and needed the chemicals, I bought them very, very reluctantly. I complained about the high price which of course they couldn't care less. They said on the way out, have a nice day, I put my head down and said I feel like I've been robbed. I said to myself I was not going to use this company anymore. I went on the internet and found the manufacturer of the product, (N. Jonas & Co), which they go to great lengths to try to hide as it is nowhere on the bottle who makes it. Anyway, after a little research I found an EPA related site with this manufacturer and they listed North Shore Pool & Spa as a distributor for this particular product along with many other distributors. I looked up some other distributors and all the ones I saw were charging $5.99 and $10.99 respectively for these two containers. In other words, I could get the same two containers for $16.98 (not wholesale but retail) that North Shore Pool & Spa just charged me $39.90 plus tax. UPDATE 12/1/09: I received a call from the owner of the business and he was very nice and understanding. He made a genuine effort to explain why their pricing was the way it was. He also told me that the feedback I gave him was very important & that it has caused him to look into their pricing. He has already reduced prices on a number of products and services. Furthermore, he explained that he would be trying to change the way he sources some of his products so that it would reduce his costs and that can be passed along to the consumer. I appreciated the time he took to call me and make things right.

    NORTH SHORE POOL & SPA
They told me the circuit board in the Spa Pack was bad and should be replaced. They said I really should replace the entire Spa Pack though because just replacing the circuit board is not reliable enough and some of the old parts may not work with the new board. I said how much for a new Spa Pack. They said $3000. I said how much for just a circuit board, they said $1000. They charged me $115 for this expert advice and quotation. I found this pretty ridiculous so I called the manufacturer of the Spa Pack in California. I talked to a technical sales engineer and described the problem. He said that all I should really need is a new circuit board and he could ship me one in days for $320. He said if it didn't work I could return it. I asked him if someone semi-technical could do it, he said yes. I asked just out of curiosity if I also wanted to replace the heater, how much it would be. He said $105. But he said I really shouldn't need it, that it sounded like a circuit board issue as there was power going to the heater and there is not much that could go wrong with the element itself. To be on the safe side, and for that price, I decided to replace the heater. This work turned out to be fairly easy and was just some basic threaded PVC pipe connections and plugging electrical connections into clearly labeled spots on the circuit board. For this, North Shore Pool & Spa was going to charge me over 300% mark up on just materials alone. A solution they were going to charge me $3000 for, I could do myself very easily for under $500. I really think that companies like this like to take advantage of helpless people who need to be rescued from their pool or spa emergency. If there is one thing I am learning as I deal with contractors, tradesmen and other home improvement gurus, they don't always know what they are talking about, they will gouge you if they can, and very few of them want to do a quality job for an honest and fair price. As much as possible now, I try to do things myself when I feel it is within my capabilities.

    BARRINGTON POOLS INC
Terrible. Non-English speaking crew arrived and had no clue as to what they were to do. They removed the cover without cleaning it (as they have in previous years), rolled it up and bagged it wet, with dirt and mold on it. They explained they were draining and refilling the pool without cleaning it. I phoned service and they indeed had my instructions to acid wash the pool. So they called the crew and had them clean the pool, which was done haphazardly. They also didn't have instructions to fix the PVC piping in the waterfall, which I had phoned in 3 weeks prior. And though they had directions to leave the cover in the driveway, they dumped it by the side of the pool. Service from this company has declined steadily ever since they installed our pool. Every time they open the pool there is some item they have forgotten or just not completed, and they have to return. Very lackluster attitude from the work crew and poor customer relations. Unfortunately the warranty requires them to open/close the pool, but then they probably won't honor any warranty claims anyway.

The spa heated properly after, they rectified the problem. They were prompt in getting a technician out. John Ure is the guy in the office and was very knowledgeable and helpful. We bought a house with a spa in it and were not familiar with how to maintain it, etc. He took the time to answer questions.
