    911 Restoration of Chicago
Work was professional and timely. Ronne, the owner, oversaw every aspect of the work and the work crews were professional, pleasant and neat. Considering the difficult situation of cleaning up from a flood, addressing mold and restoring the area, it was a pleasure not to have to deal with the usual problems associated with workmen in your home as well. I would recommend them .

We remodeled every room in the house.?This could have been a very disruptive process, but Dreamscape made the construction process a pleasant and exciting process.

Carpet Central & Hardwood Flooring Inc
Mike first came to provide us with a quote. He was on time, easy going and a really nice guy. We were renovating at the time and told him that it'd be about 3 months away till we install the carpet. He said no problem and was able to give me a quote the next day.
Mike was always responsive through email and Luba from their store was just the nicest lady you will meet. We went there a few times to look at the carpet and was able to take samples home to compare.
After 3 months when it was ready to install, Mike was able to fit me within his schedule right away and they did an awesome job.
I highly recommend them and will definitely use them again (probably soon as I will need to fix up the condo that I currently live in for rent).
Don't hesitate, call them or email them.

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
The biggest thing to consider with The Basement Men is the price. They were willing to do a job for 1/3 to 1/2 the price of other contractors that we quoted. We knew we were going with a low bid going in and were pleasantly surprised at overall how well the job did, once it finally completed.
What was originally quoted to be about a 1-1/2 month job ended up stretching twice as long although this was mostly due to external factors that Steve couldn't control. This was during the "Polar Vortex" winter which caused tremendous delays in digging out the window well as well as making it difficult for the project foreman to travel when the roads were snowed in. In addition the foreman was undergoing a tragedy in his family so all in all it was a very unusual winter.
Overall we found Steve to be very nice and considerate and helpful during design and planning however throughout the project there seemed to be a lack of communication between the foreman and Steve who we consulted with. We talked out designs with Steve but then had to have the same conversations with the foreman and remind him about things constantly. It felt at times like we were manging the project more then the our contractor. Overall communication was a big issue as it was sometimes difficult to reach Steve and the foreman would quite often not show up on days he was supposed to be working. Given that I had to take days off of work to do things like electrical walkthroughs and inspection the no-shows and worse the lack of notification prior to a no-show really was off putting. I understand that between weather and personal business that things would come up and work would get delayed but it would have been nice to be contacted about it rather then finding out at the end of the day that nothing happened.
Other then communication issues and the delays due to severe winter weather the project went great. The end result looks very nice and is extremely functional, any complaints that we had about the work were quickly corrected (there was a hole in the carpet on the stairs but he sent the carpet guy back out and he fixed it seemlessly, luckily it ended up not being a major issue but he was prepared to rip everything up and do it again so it would look right).
You get what you pay for and now that the project is done I feel like we got quite the steal out of the whole thing however during the 3 months there were quite a few moments of aggravation and concern about whether the project would ever finish.
If you're on a tight budget like we were The Basement Men meant the difference between a finished basement now versus in a year from now. Again Steve was courteous and nice (when we could reach him) and there weren't any hidden costs or financial strong-arming.

    Lewis Floor & Home
April 14th. Sharon from Lewis kindly called me to offer to fix my floor at my total expense. Since we have "paid" for it continuously for ten years with disappointment and frustration I had to decline. We have never had even a week after a repair without the grout fracturing. All we ever wanted was for them to take responsibility and ownership that our floor was a bad job from the beginning. It should have been repaired properly after the grout continued to crack for months. Grouting over cracked grout hasn't held up. I Just wouldn't use Lewis if you expect a company to stand by their service if there is a problem!!!! APRIL 8th 2014 I had my 4th contractor opinion and they said it was a bad installation. Said the underlayment was not screwed in. It LITERALLY cracked within two days of doing it. They should have fixed it. LEWIS RESPONSE IS 100% NOT TRUE. AND THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED. AND they should have taken up that section when they did it since it never looked good. And if its my house it doesn't explain the layers of different color grout from when they patched but didn't take out the old cracked grout. We have had many people look at it and they say the part under the tile was not done right. Lewis did the prep. The movement is because of the poor installation. One contractor did a test with a spoon and said it was hollow under the cracks. Mr Lewis has never come to see this floor to see why we have never been able to enjoy it. If this floor belonged to anyone that worked there they would be just as upset as us.

Tile grout in the floor cracked next day six feet long fracture in traffic pattern in front of fridge. Owner came out from subcontractor The Tiler Group and said why fix it. It will crack again. They never advertised cracked grout or showed us places in the showroom and said here's how a bad tile job looks. They didn't seal the grout as they didn't believe in it then. The grout continued to crack and flake and peel and they sent out the manager who moved the fridge and saw the grout was powder. Grout was disappearing all over. He sent someone to regrout. Now we had two colors. They didn't take all the grout out so it kept cracking and they sent the guy again. I have about five colors from five different repairs. They never fixed it. Then they said its the tile shape. First of all the tile is flat and second if it wasn't right for grouting why sell it or tell the people. I have contacted them with calls and letters and mass emails for years.
This is the WORST floor they ever did. We have never been able to get pleasure from it. They did my neighbors and moms per my recommendation and theirs are perfect. I remember when the two young guys did it they were laughing about being hung over.

I have asked at least 50 times if I could pay Mr Lewis to come over and see it. I have said if he thought his wife would be happy with it or if he thought it was representative of Lewis then I would back off. He has NOT come. Two years ago he told his tiler to come see it again and they never returned my calls and Sharon said they weren't coming.

Obviously its movement that happens when the dura rock or whatever they used was not anchored properly. I have had many contractors look at it and they said it wasn't done right. Lewis did ALL the work and inspected it before. I was told the underlayment was not done right.

We live in our kitchen and it depresses us every day. There are holes and cracks and fractures. I swear it has been bad since they did it. First they said the grout was too dry. Then they said the grout was too wet and dried too fast. The last time they looked at it years ago they told ME to wipe off the dry foggy grout on the tile hours later to give it more moisture. I have literally begged Mr Lewis to look at it.
I welcome Angies to send anyone here

IF this floor was representative of their quality they would be out of business. I go to malls and their bathroom floors don't look like this. I have never seen a floor like this.

Last year I wrote a letter and emailed again and they act like I was bothering them. No one has cared how it looks. No one said they were sorry no one took responsibility. If you want I will send you pictures. I swear on anything you want that this is the total truth and I am understating it. When they did it they said don't walk on it until the next day. We waited three. We went out the front door. We had two small dogs and inconvenienced ourselves longer. People have big dogs and tile. They said dogs have nothing to do with it. It is disgusting. It looks filthy as it has never been sealed and each repair the grout looked different which I could accept if it stayed. They never offered to pay to have someone else try and fix it. They basically said tough luck from the beginning. I also swear that their tile guy joe and manager Sharon said multiple times that it WAS NOT our fault. In fact I wash each tile separately so I don't get the grout wet as it still comes out and we see powder or chunks. ANGIES LIST - PLEASE HELP to fix this. It didn't last one day. My husband mentions it four times a week. I have never had a company care so little and be so arrogant about a problem with their labor and installation. Why won't Mr Lewis look at it. Then he will see why we can't give up. He would be totally humiliated.

    Floor Decor
We were looking to replace the carpeting in three bedrooms.  Since we have a baby, we wanted something super soft and easy to clean.  We got quotes from two big-chain stores (Lowes and Lewis) before finding Karen.  She brought tons of samples to the house and guided us in picking out a carpet that we love!  She is warm and knowledgeable, she has a flexible schedule, and provides speedy and reliable service.  We also felt that we got the fairest price with her.  Happy customers are we!

Carpet Central & Hardwood Flooring Inc
We are new to the Chicago area so we relied completely on Angie's List recommendations for contractors to work on our home.  Our experience with Mike Ignoffo and his crew at Carpet Central could not have gone better.  Both the hardwood and carpeting crews were fast, efficient, and very professional.  We also appreciated the assistance provided by Luba in the showroom who helped us make our carpet and stain color selections.  Mike was very quick with the quote, kept us updated on the scheduled work, and was easy to reach whenever we had questions.  We are very pleased with the results and would highly recommend this company to anyone needing carpeting or hardwood in the north shore area.

    LA MAISON FLOOR COVERING
I spent a very great deal of money with this rug dealer because he gained my trust and I thought I was getting collectibles at good value. I learned later that some of the merchandise I purchased was not as presented verbally, and that all of it was grossly overpriced.
I've been unable to get a decent, legible invoice with item descriptions and prices paid. I've been trying for several months to do that. One of the rugs I purchased had a poorly mended slit in it and was presented by the merchant as 'museum quality'. I foolishly paid this merchant to repair this slit, and it came back exactly the same as I had seen it before, while he charged me $300 for the 'repair'. I tried to obtain a refund for this one item but he has many excuses - mostly financial based.
This merchant has many very sophisticated sales techniques which I was foolish enough to be taken in by. He will 'befriend' you. He will flatter you. Don't purchase from this person unless you know exactly what you're doing and what you're getting.I would strongly suggest having a trusted friend or relative with you when dealing with this merchant.
I don't want to publicize my comments here, for fear of reprisal.

    American Carpet Distributors
Larry and American Carpets did a GREAT job!  My husband and I recently purchased a home where the previous owner had cats and my husband is deathly allergic.  We had the carpets shampooed and treated extensively but could not get rid of the cat hair and dander.  My husband went out of town for a business trip and I contacted Larry in a panic to see if he could have the carpets removed and replaced by the time my husband returned 4 days later.  Larry came out same day with all of the samples of carpet they had in their warehouse.  We selected the carpet and he priced it out according to the square footage.  He then called me later that night with the time of the appointment which was 2 days later.  His crew showed at exactly the time scheduled and were extremely efficient and professional with their installation.
My husband has not had an allergy issue since and I owe it all to Larry and American Carpets.  I highly recommend them!  The only thing I would have rather had changed is that they did not take the old carpet with them but I called for special garbage pickup and that will be taken care of.
