Boarding reviews in North Barrington

  • The staff lost or over administered 19 of our dog's pills that are refrigerated for Sunny's kidney condition. In addition, we brought 12 gallons of Ice Mountain bottled filtered water because of his kidney condition.  When we picked him up on 4/5/2016, there were 9 remaining gallons. There should have been none left or 1 or 2 left at the most. Soon after, our dog developed gastro problems and has had to be on Hills Rx ID food. Then he was diagnosed with a urinary bladder infection. We called several times and left a message for the owner, Dylan to call us. He never called. He emailed us finally after we emailed a very angry email to him. He said he left a message-well he left a message on a phone number that is not ours. I emailed him back to tell him that The Dog House records contain not just 1 phone number, but 2 additional numbers that he never bothered to try. My husband and i boarded our Sunny there at least 4 different times. We thought they cared, but in reality they did not care about my dog who is part of our family and is loved so much. Do not go to The Dog House-BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

  • Stay far, far, far away from The Doghouse of Barrington.
We dropped our Aussie Lab mix for a week of dog daycare and boarding in August.  When we dropped her off, she was in perfect health, with no problems at all.  She was excited to be there (as she had been previously) and we went on our vacation.
Upon picking her up a week later, she was carried out from the holding area by one of the staff members.  Shockingly, we were advised that she "started limping" about two days before pickup, and was not walking on her rear left leg.  They suggested giving her "baby aspirin" for a couple days.  I asked a few questions, but no one seemed to know what happened - the story I received was that "she woke up limping on Friday" (?).  Upon walking her home, she would not put any weight on the leg and winced in pain whenever she tried to use it.
To make a long story short, our dog received a compund fracture below her rear left knee that will require orthopedic canine surgery, with a cost of around $2000.00.   Since picking her up, we have contacted The Doghouse of Barrington multiple times about the incident, and received several stories.  For example, in addition to the above, we also heard that "she hurt her leg while playing", and "oh, we just noticed it before you picked her up"....  Multiple messages to the owner have gone without reply.
So, it looks like we may be off to litigation - in the meantime, Id recommend staying away from here.  They herd most of the dogs (from around 40lbs to 200lbs) in a common play area, and the dogs are supervised by young kids.  They arent trained in dog handling, they didnt call a vet (or us) when the injury happened, and generally dont seem to care.
The worst part was when our vet told us that the type of fracture our dog would have incurred would be incredibly painful - it seems that no one at The Doghouse noticed or cared...

  • So far, we are loving this place! It's kind of tucked away, so I didn't even realize it's practically right in our backyard! They came recommended by our vet. I brought our 7 month old puppy for a one day trial. Love that they recorded her antics so we could see how much fun she was having. She made some friends and came home pooped! The facility, while older, seemed clean and well cared for when I visited unscheduled. The staff clearly loves animals. Their prices are reasonable, too. I also love that they board cats, as well. It's hard to find places that take both. They even have two adorable kitties who greet you when you arrive. Cute! We will be bringing our other two dogs and cat here in the future. The owners live on-site which adds a layer of confidence.

  • They offer two types of daily doggie care from four hours to a full day. They have even started pick-up program and offer animal training services here has well. We have been using their services for about a year ago. He really likes going there and I like them as well! The owners and employees here are all dog owners and they are good at what they do.

  • It's worth the 15 mile drive to take my dogs there. They are excited when we pull into the parking lot. The owners are professional dog handlers, judges, breeders and more. They are wonderful to my dogs and have treated them well over the years we've boarded at Dominoe. The owners live on the premises, which is very important to me. You are welcome to stop in and visit (no appt. needed) during their open hours, That says a lot about their operation, nothing to hide.

  • My confidence level with the owners Ken and Virginia is very high. The kennel is on their home property which means someone is there 24/7. That was one of the most important factors for me in choosing a kennel. The individual dog kennels have an out door run, so they're not stuck inside all day waiting for someone to take them out. They recently added and remodeled, which turned out some larger "suites" for their furry guests. It's not the closest kennel to my house, but I will gladly drive to have my dogs well cared for while I'm away. I've sent many neighbors and friends there who have remained loyal Dominoe visitors as well. Simply put, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

  • I used this kennel several years ago for my dog and cat and was impressed back then by the fact that the owners would let me see the dog runs and cat condos. Other kennels would not. I was pleased with the accommodations and made reservations. I used them for several years until my pets passed on. Now I have 2 cats and I returned to this kennel to find out that there were new owners and the cat room had been improved by adding a patio door (the reception area was remodeled, too). Since the cats live together, they could have a double condo. These condos are much nicer than the cages that other kennels may have. Visit their website for pictures. Since the owners are dog breeders they may have puppies in the cat room. The staff is friendly and caring and will sometimes bring their dogs to work, too. This was fine with me. My cats are former friendly ferals that lived in my backyard but now live inside. I think having them see other cats, people and dogs was a great experience for them (this was their 2nd time at the kennel). It took the cats about a day to re-adjust to being back at home, but they were not traumatized. Their rates are a little higher during peak periods (summer and holidays), but it's worth the few extra dollars. They still will give you a tour if you come during regular office hours.

  • They are very good. Most recently we used them a month ago and they were boarded for eight days. In addition to the boarding, the dogs were also groomed as well. We will continue to use them in the future.

  • It went perfectly! I felt 100% comfortable with leaving my two dogs in Lisa's care.
