  • Vicky with Avanti was exceptionally good in listening to us and helping us select the furniture we wanted. We love our new bathrooms. It turned out to be better than we anticipated - both beautiful and high quality. When our installers needed help, Avanti staff was timely in providing the support we needed. Overall it was a great experience and we plan to work with Avanti soon on our kitchen remodel.

  • We used Mr. Handyman and let me tell you, he was terrific! Because my husband & I came from Chicago with a house twice this size and we collect tea pots. So, we had boxes and boxes of tea pots and we had no place to put them. So, Mr. Handyman came out filled the whole garage with them. They?re sturdy, they?re very nicely built.

He took into consideration that we have a freezer in the garage and a refrigerator. He built little nooks for all of them. It was probably about $5,000. He?s a craftsman! He is very talented, knows what he is doing. He takes things into consideration like outlets & like I said the refrigerator and the freezer. So, we are very happy. I think it took 2 weeks. He swept up and everything, he didn?t leave a mess. There was no lumber laying around or anything, scrap lumber, he took all of that.

  • We remodeled our kitchen, laundry room, and four bathrooms. We used a custom cabinet maker for the kitchen and laundry, a semi-custom company for three of our bathrooms, and Seigles for our master bath. We bid the master bath to Seigles with semi-custom design and the custom cabinet maker that had finished the kitchen beautifully. Although the custom company was about 50% more expensive, in hindsight, I would have gladly paid the extra to avoid the incompetence, errors, and lack of customer care that Seigles provided.
The Seigles rep that we dealt with, Mike Manke, was inattentive in communications, made numerous errors in the cabinet plans, and generally incompetent. He did not respond in a timely manner to our general contractor's calls, he made measurement design mistakes in the cabinet plans that led to a size and function issues with the cabinets, and failed to use detailed notes to avoid the errors that occurred. One of his design errors forced us to accept a fill piece to be inserted at the end of the cabinet that was supposed to be seamless. Another error failed to consider the range of motion on how cabinet doors would open and would have limited that range without a design changes that had to be re-done. The persistent errors led to significant extra time and costs that we paid to our reliable general contractor that was doing the installation.
The cabinets were to be completed (Oct 2014) in 10 weeks from the date we ordered (August 2014). The measurement errors caused problems at installation and the cabinet manufacture sent incorrectly designed drawer fronts. This led to a 4 week delay. The new drawer fronts arrived in that four weeks and were again the wrong design and the size was also inexplicably changed. The design had other errors in the baseboard that required a re-do as well. Two months after our cabinets installation was to be completed and errors too numerous to mention (mostly due to Mike Manke), we brought our concerns to the attention of the owner, Mark Seigle. He was unwilling to discount our cabinets in spite of the extra costs that we incurred and only promised to complete the job to our satisfaction without regard to time frame.
Most of the errors were fixed 6 months after the job was planned to be done except the error that couldn't be fixed (seamless cabinet). However, one cabinet door that was warped from the manufacturer was due to be replaced and Seigles failed to communicate with the manufacturer in order to get an appropriate replacement. Mark Seigle refused to complete the replacement cabinet door, and reneged on his promise to complete the job to our satisfaction. I went to the cabinet manufacturer rep directly, who replaced the door without issue at no cost. So, 14 months after the job was due to be completed, it finally was (Jan 2016). Little thanks to Mark Seigle and Mike Manke.

  • The entire team was very helpful and knowledgeable. Kitchen cabinets are stunning and went in fast! The custom window trim needed due to the new windows look like it's always been there. Super rich and beautiful finish! Finishing the large open basement (framing) for new rooms went fast and just as described in the plans. The 2000sf of bamboo flooring on the main level is stunning and beautiful. They took the time to bevel the edges and make custom thresholds. Absolutely top quality work! They always showed up on time and got everything done in an efficient, professional, timely manner. Will work with them again for sure and highly recommend!

  • Denis had done his homework; he knew what needed to be done but his lack of experience was obvious.  I began interviewing other contractors knowing I would loose my $15,000. 00 deposit.  We were at Boone Creek Cabinetry showroom when I saw an advertisement/article published in a monthly McHenry County magazine by Boone Creek Cabinetry.  Listed in this article, under their experience was my total home renovation!!!  We had not even come to terms on pricing but they advertised the renovation.  Integrity and honesty are two valued qualities.  It was then I hired another contractor and have no regrets.

We did order the cabinetry from Boone Creek and the finish was  horrible. The cabinets had to be spray painted IN MY HOME causing a major delay/mess.  A major item was deleted from the plans ($15,000. paid) without us knowing and to have it special ordered delayed my kitchen completion. The item was labeled as ordered but was not.

Boone Creek advertises a husband/wife operation however, Michele was dismissed from our meetings.  I feel she might have been the honest person during our discussions and urge ANYONE who meets with Boone Creek have her in the meetings.

  • We are one month into our project, and we could not be happier.  Adrian and Andrew (Doru) are true professionals that show pride in everything they do.
One specific example comes to mind ? after they started the job, they didn?t like how the existing (and old) heat registers looked and thought they would take away from the look of the project (the registers effectively came out from the wall, not flush with the floor).  At no cost to me, they redid the registers to come up from the floor, where they could install wood covers that would blend seamlessly into the floor.  We didn?t even think to ask about it --- they are just so focused on all of the details, they just couldn?t let it go!
They work very quickly and have a great command of their team.  We?re just amazed at what they?ve accomplished in one month, and the focus and precision is just unmatched.  Additionally, either Adrian or Andrew is always on site (i.e., no random guys just showing up that you?ve never seen before).  My wife is at home during the day with my 3 year old and 2 year old daughters, and it?s great to know that one of them is always there when work is being done.  Due to how extensive the work is, my wife and kids are forced to walk along the edge of the construction a few times a day getting from our kitchen to the bedrooms.  As soon as Adrian or Andrew see them walking through, they immediately stop what they?re doing to ensure nobody is scared or in danger ? even if they?re on the complete other side of the room!  Given the extent of the renovation, and my wife and kids at home during the day, it was important for me/us to work with people we trust, and we?ve definitely found that with Adrian, Andrew, and their team.  They are great with our kids, and are always taking time explain what they're working on and design considerations.
One last thing -- they are extremely open to your design ideas.  I've probably sent them 50 emails with pictures from Houzz and Pinterest of ideas on cabinets, arches, skylights, etc.  They are always receptive, and welcome our input.  They're just great to work with.
I will be updating my review as the work progresses, but if it continues as it?s been going, we are going to be beyond ecstatic with the finished project.  We?ve had plenty of friends and family come by to check out the work, and everyone has been amazed at the caliber of work.  I?ve joked with Adrian that he?s going to be spending a lot of time in Barrington when they?re done with our project, and we already have a list of other projects we plan to hire them for when they?re finished (and after we?ve taken a modest brake from the construction!).  From what I?ve seen thus far, I would recommend without reservation Adrian, Andrew and Splash Carpentry.  We couldn?t be happier.
I've added a few pictures.  The first two pictures were taken by the prior owner of the house and show the two rooms we are combining.  The third picture shows the work as of a few weeks ago.  They've since insulated, installed three of the four skylights (one skylight arrived damaged and had to be sent back), and are now drywalling.

  • Rowe Construction did an excellent job of remodeling my master bath.  My house had been for sale for over 2 years, and one of the problems was my outdated master bath.  Ryan  Rowe reconfigured everything, making the most of unused space.  He enlarged the shower with dual heads, redid all the plumbing to accommodate a stand alone bathtub in the center.  Plumbing was completely redone.  Walls and floor taken down to studs. New cabinetry installed.  The demolition and construction was done with the least amount of dust and debris.  They also did all the electrical in the bathroom as well as new electrical fixtures in my kitchen.  Ryan and his workers (particularly Paul) were always on time and he kept me informed at all times.  They seem to truly care about the job they are doing and the people they are working for - (Paul found a problem in my basement with the water that I was unaware of and was important to fix).  The end result was outstanding and the quality excellent - my house sold 3 months later.  Thank you Ryan and Paul!!!

  • ,David did an outstanding job in every way. The quality of the refacing and the new cabinet doors is absolutely beautiful - they look like new custom cabinets. He took great care and had wonderful expertise in addressing various existing issues in the kitchen and laundry room and found great solutions. His service was excellent in working with our specific needs and requirements for the project. He was excellent to work with in every way from start to finish. We especially appreciate that the quality of the workmanship had stood up extremely well since the work was done. It is a pleasure to use our new kitchen and we receive many compliments. David has completed several other repair items for our home in addition to doing the kitchen. I highly recommend him for any work needed.  I plan to use his services in the future.

  • Avanti's showroom--which used to be next to ABT--was lovely, understated (no $100k kitchens on display)--had the kind of modular cabinets we wanted (like Ikea, but higher quality). The staff, especially Vicki, were laid back, knowledgable and were NOT in any way pushy. What I like in particular was that Vicki and I put pen to paper--I was not pressured or threatened with a design fee.
Also, I didn't get a sense that Avanti staff was threatened that I was taking advantage of their knowledge or "stealing" their ideas. In every other showroom I've visited, I have felt pressured to engage in a formal, fee-based design process even to have a long conversation with staff. Whether a design fee is waived upon purchase of cabinets or a separate project (I'm a graphic designer, so I understand the threshold between "spitballing" and developing a unique concept. Reasonable customers want to get a feel for the showroom, understand who does the installations, talk about "potholes" in the project, etc. I will say that I have been in galleries where customers are really pushy and try to take advantage of the vendor...we should all take a step back.
Through NO fault of Avanti, I haven't yet gone forward with the project. Vicki has followed up, but gently, professionally, first by phone and then, when I explained my situation, she changed to a VERY occasional email. Vicki also offered to come out and see the current kitchen--no commitment, no fee (though I cannot certify that this was usual policy or just Vicki's particular warmth and kindness). Of course, I'd love to talk design forever! But it was my choice not to use her valuable time right now.
I will definitely visit Vicki in their new location in Highland Park and of all the galleries and designers we've talked to, I am confident that Avanti would be one of only two choices. I really do hope I can go ahead with the project, and encourage people who have felt strong-armed at other galleries try Avanti.

  • I had Wendt Woodworking out to give an estimate on some wood trim repair in our house. It is not a big job. Mark promptly returned my initial phone call and was out to my house quickly to give an estimate. I had decided to go with Wendt Woodworking to do the job, but never heard back from Mark after his initial visit. I called and left at least 3 messages that were never returned.
