Great! Rick was prompt and able to maneuver schedules to accommodate my needs as I had other work (asphalt driveway re-do) to work around. His guys were prompt, professional and efficient. I would definitely recommend them for hire!

    De Hoyos Concrete
Contracted with Andy for a new concrete driveway in early August. The contract called for a specific method of payment. Andy asked for money before he was supposed to get it. After about six weeks after contracting with him, I called to ask when they were going to do the job. He said in about two weeks, then quickly corrected that to three weeks. Work started in November. Concrete was poured on a cold day, but it mostly came out OK. We have called and emailed Andy several times, to get the minor imperfections corrected, but every phone message and email was IGNORED.

I was not able to work with Tom because of the distance. I am way up north in Mundelein and Tom doesn't travel that far. However, I would like to say that Tom was very nice and informative. Even though he couldn't service my project, he was extremely forth coming about what I should look out for from other contractors that bid my job. I would recommend Tom just from the fact that he took 20 minutes of his time to give me the "Contractors 101" class of what to look for in a contractor and what type of materials I should expect to see on my job.

Total Paving and Brick Services, Inc
Quality of work was excellent. Every representative was professional; from sales, to demolition, to concrete to asphalt installation. They worked with the township because my street was being repaved at the same time, and it was well coordinated and provided a seamless drive. There were some issues between communication with the crews and the office, but that was cleared up quickly and easily. Lots of rain, but job was done as soon as appropriate. Price may have been little higher than other quotes, but I felt confident with the responsiveness of the company, their previous reviews, and their desire to understand and provide what I wanted. I would definitely rehire, and have recommended to my neighbors that are inquiring about the same services.

Everything went very well.  Prior to this project, I had done all of the renovations projects myself. So it was difficult for me to let go and let someone else do the work.  But it was well worth it after I stepped back and let them take over.  Everyone was nice, professional, honest, and on time. Faith and Rod, the couple who own the company were friendly and honest.  Rod came out to make the estimate and he explained everything in detail.  He also knows his crew very well.  The best part of using Handy Men and Mrs. Helper was that they organized everything so that each contractor came in when needed and got the jobs done.  I had to call Rod multiple times with questions and changes to the project.  I always either reached him right away or received a call back within an hour.
I had started the work myself, so I had all of the material already.  But I needed to speed up the work and that is exactly what they did for me.  It was so nice to sit back and watch everything move so quickly.  Brian, the owner of the flooring company that was sub-contracted by Handy Men and Mrs. Helper was very nice also.  His crew worked extremely fast and did an amazing job of bringing new life to our 50 year old floors.  There were a few things I wish had gone better, but nothing that really bothered me.  The one worker tried to fix the squeaks in our wood floor by putting shims between the joists and sub floor.  He did some and left some for us to finish up. This wasn't in the contract, so his help was additional and appreciated.  Unfortunately, the squeaks came back about a week after adding the shims.  This is just a warning to people considering refinishing old squeaky floors.  If you can't stand the squeaks, it might be worth replacing the floor so you can properly secure the sub floor.  I also had to ask at the end of the job that they install transitions where the new laminate flooring met up with existing flooring.  Brian had a guy come out and install the transitions, but it was strange to me that I even had to ask.
The drywall and paint guy was Urmas.  He was amazing.  There were some real challenges for him and he made it look perfect.  I couldn't believe how quick he was either.  Our bathroom looks amazing because of him.  He also installed the tile flooring in our bathroom.  It isn't perfect, but it's good enough for me.  The concrete floor that he installed over had a lot of dips and I didn't want to grind it flat or level it out.  So I think that is the cause for the minor imperfections.  Again, I would recommend leveling the sub floor if you are looking for perfection.  One thing I really liked was that Rod had notes in the estimate for the different paths that I could take with the work.  When they removed the old tile in the bathroom, we didn't now the condition of the concrete underneath.  Rod gave a quote if I wanted it ground down so the peal and stick tiles would work and a different quote if I just wanted the ceramic tiles installed.  I loved that Rod was willing to work with me on the details of the estimate.
When the work was done, all of the debris was removed per my notes in the contract.  But there was a lot of dust left behind.  I expected that it would be cleaned up better, but I didn't make a fuss.  I believe that if I had said something, they would have sent someone out immediately to clean it up.  I believe this because when I mentioned a slight leak at our utility sink, they had someone out the next day.
If you want someone that is flexible and will work with you, Handy Men and Mrs. Helper is the way to go.  Tell them what you want and they will make sure you are happy.

I am very happy with the way the garage and drive look.  It's only been a month, so I cannot speak to how well it all will hold up over time, but have no reason to think there will be a problem.
Ruben was very thorough and professional, from the time he provided the estimate through the completion of the job.  All I had to do was clear out the garage, and secure the permit from the village (which basically entailed two visits to Village Hall, one to submit the application, the other to pick up the permit).  He and his team showed up at 7 am on the designated start day, and the work followed the schedule to a 'T.'  I didn't have to be at home, basically just had to leave access to the garage.  Ruben took care of everything, including a little hitch when the village pre-pour inspection requested some changes, but we didn't find the inspector's report until after the floor was poured.  Ruben went to the village and straightened out the issues, which turned out mainly to be some miscommunication.  The work was basically completed in 4 days, with forms removed and the areas along the driveway backfilled.  Ruben even cut and refitted some stones in our front walk that had to be removed to put in the concrete forms, then were a little too large to fit back into place.
Overall, really excellent work, done in a timely fashion, and at a good price.  Since I was not home while the work crew was there, Ruben would give me updates by email each evening.  I would recommend this group to anyone needing this sort of concrete work.

Ruben was wonderful to deal with.  Very informative, professional and communicated well.  We had to wait a bit for the weather due to all the rain but I would much rather wait and make sure the job was done right which was what Ruben also wanted.  I would definitely use them again.  They had the best price and did a fantastic job!
