Ceiling Fan Installation reviews in Morton Grove

  • I bought a 1970's condo that needed updating. The Federal Pacific electric panel was flagged as a fire hazard by my home inspector so I opted to replace it sooner rather than later as well as update a whole bunch of outlets. Matt at Goldstream gave me an estimated cost range with explanations as to what might raise or lower the final cost. He requested a picture of the existing panel to prepare for the service call. After seeing it was 200 amps, he let me know it would be at the upper end of the estimate to replace it, and asked if I still wanted to go ahead with the work. I've since learned of quite a few friends who had to replace their Federal panels and they were all impressed with the replacement price. Matt also warned me several times, before I engaged his services up to when he and his partner arrived to do the work, that the new panel would be larger and I might need to have drywall work done afterwards. It ended up not being necessary as the panel fits almost perfectly (a couple of nicks I can fix myself if I want). While they were there for the panel, I asked them about installing a fan in the center of a ceiling without an existing light fixture. They did some investigative work above the ceiling and explained different options for wiring the fan. Matt was frank when he said I might not want to do it because he'd have to break open the ceiling. However, he came up with a creative option to add recessed lights as a way to get around tearing up the ceiling or wall for the wiring. Once again, he warned me in advance that I'd probably need to paint the ceiling so there were no surprises. It ended up looking fantastic and added light to a dark area in the room as a bonus. Its now my favorite space in the condo. For another room, I'd already purchased the light fixtures with special order light bulbs. The light was much brighter than I'd expected it to be in the small space. Matt picked up on my surprise and said he could put a dimmer on one or both of the lights. I ended up going "dimmer crazy" and he was a good sport as I decided to retro-fit dimming the new fan's speed as well as all the new lights. The second ceiling fan was a much simpler installation, with Matt adding a wall switch transmitter to control fan speed and lights. All the work took three visits to complete. Both Matt and his partner checked in with me as they worked to make sure I was happy with x, y, or z. Matt proactively pointed out some things he wasn't sure I'd be happy with (subtle color differences) and changed what I didn't like without charging me. Similarly, a new gfci outlet failed and Matt replaced it no charge. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with all the work I've had done. Goldstream was prompt, neat, responsive to my needs and questions (including being upfront about what could happen and what might not be possible), and gave me creative solutions. I'm sure I will hire them again for future projects.

  • I bought two coupons for two ceiling fans and when they came to my home, they told me I just needed to change the switch on one of the ceiling fans. I asked them whether they can fix the switch and install the new fan at a different location and they did it for me. He had to go to the store to buy the new switch and he did that and changed the switch at a reasonable price. He also gave me the receipt of the new switch that he bought.

  • Initially, i asked Jon Stenberg, the owner, to come to the house and walk through it so I could ask about a variety of changes I was considering.  Much of what I wanted done, he told me, could be done far more affordability with readily available fixes such as long extension cords and additional floor lighting in my office which came with fluorescent lights.  I was very  impressed with his honesty and preference for saving us money instead of bulking up his estimate.
The services he felt should be done were carried out efficiently, quietly and everything works perfectly (which, in this house, is really nothing short of a miracle - the people who lived here before us did pretty much everything wrong.)  I was somewhat nervous about doing anything electrical, because we've had trouble with it in the past, but Martin, the electrician who did the work, was completely professional and knowledgeable.  He was here for about 5 hours one day and returned the following week for another few hours.
He cleaned up after himself, took time to explain to me what he had done and whatever else I needed to know, such as how to work the ceiling fan remote.
This morning I received my invoice from Wilshore and, as I was heading out to have lunch with my husband in a suburb very near Wilshore, I delivered the check in person.  When I got home this afternoon I found an email from Jon stating that he had neglected to apply an Angie's List discount on the initial visit and telling me that he would be sending me a check immediately.
I am SO glad to have found this company nd I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone!

  • The service was excellent.  Jamie was polite and professional, both on the phone and in person.  He explained exactly what he was going to do and made helpful suggestions (such as wiring the fan so that the light could still be controlled by the wall switch, with only the fan needing to use a chain).  Even though I know that he had already had a long day due to traffic and weather, he was pleasant and worked quickly.  I am extremely pleased with the end result.  I will definitely be calling them in the future to install the fourth fan when I'm ready to paint that room and will certainly call for any other electrical needs or emergencies that may come up.

  • The principal owner, Don Friend, along with a second electrician, showed up on time as promised, and got right to work. In advance of his coming, he had advised me on types of fixtures we should have, but left the choices to be made to us, and so we had the fixtures lined up for him. He brought the necessary brackets, breakers, etc for doing joist work in attic and the only reason he didn't have ALL of the breakers necessary is because I threw him a curve. I discovered that I had misled him on a breaker that was not suspicious, and so that had to be special ordered as it was an out of manufacture breaker.

  • Steve returned my call very quickly and set an appointment for the next day. He came over and got everything working very quickly. In addition, he was very courteous and willing to teach me about proper electrical installation. A really nice man. Very professional and willing to teach. Great experience.

  • Scott arrived and, after I told him what I needed done, he performed all work as expected. He was professional and courteous, and gave advice on some concerns I had involving a sump pump and a motion light.
