    WONDER LAKE VETERINARY CLINIC
I'm really on the fence about this clinic. I do find Dr. M personable but his front desk people are AWFUL!! I have 4 dogs and started coming there in 2011 when I moved back to the McHenry area. I probably have been to the office about 15 times and every time I have any contact with the front desk they have major attitude and are rude. I have spoken personally to Dr M about them but nothing has changed. Also when you walk in the first set of doors the urine odor/ammonia smell almost knocks you over and the examining rooms are filthy noting the same dirt, dust, etc in the corners every time I come. I'm contemplating finding a new vet because I just learned when I brought my dog back for his 2 week recheck,Dr. Brittany King, for reasons unknown, is no longer there. It was because of her I stayed with the practice and overlooked the other issues.

    Camp Bow Wow - McHenry
They do day care and boarding for short and long term. They are the coolest place that I have ever had a dog stay. They charge $110 for three overnights. You would drop the dog off there during the day and then the dog spends the night and then you do not really have to come and pick them up until the end of the following day. So, it is almost like two days. They have a whole bunch of different interior and exterior environments where the dogs walk and play together. They do an interview with the dogs and then they start bringing in other dogs to see if the dog socializes well with others. If the dog does, then they get to stay there and spend a free day with them to see how they like it and you like it. And then during the whole time that they are in in either one of the interior or the exterior rooms, they have a camp counselor in there with them. They have video cameras so that you can get the application and you can watch the dogs when they are in the socializing rooms any time of the day. That is really an excellent deal and the dogs really seem to enjoy. When they get home from there, they are tired. It is a lot more entertaining for them than just sitting inside a stupid crate.

    QUALITY CANINE'S BY KIM
Kim started with the basics of sit, down and stay and helped me progress the dogs to off leash training so they would listen to me whatever the distance they were away from me.  She also has dog parties on the weekend to help keep your dog socialized with other dogs and humans.  Overall it was very worthwhile and I am glad that I found her.

    Paradise 4 Paws - Chicago O'Hare
WE were concerned about our dog because we had never left her in a kennel before, but she seems to have survived with no problems or trauma.  The employees seem to be very concerned about each dog and the dog's comfort.  They answer questions over the phone and give updates on your dog (including a final report card with pictures!)
Everything went smoothly except for two things:
    1.  we did not make our reservation for the holiday weekend early enough, so our dog had to be transported to the Midway facility for her stay - even though we were flying out of O'Hare.
     2.  although they offer webcam services so you can check up on your dog, it was really hard to sign in (had to download apps, etc.) and then the picture wasn't clear enough to see which dog was ours.
All in all, we were very pleased with our dog's stay in the kennel and the whole process in general....

    PetSmart
The dog trainer was rather young, but very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about dog behavior. Apparently these trainers follow a certain and quot;PetSmart manualand quot; of dog training techniques. Her suggestions were helpful.
One issue in my mind was the small and quot;ringand quot; in which the dogs were trained. Having a small, timid dog, I think she was intimidated by very large dogs that were very close to her. It was fun, however, to and quot;marchand quot; around the store in parade fashion. It gave the dogs a challenge to walk by all sorts of interesting things that distracted them - including cats!
Our dog progressed socially, becoming less timid both toward people and other dogs - that was worth the price of the class all by itself. She made some progress on other commands, but would have done better if we had worked harder with her at home...
They do offer a progression of classes....

    PetSmart Store Support Group Inc
She is a really fussy eater and we have tried every type of food. She seems to really like their house brand of food. They acknowledge you when you come in, if they see you in the aisle they come by and see if you need any help, and they are extremely helpful.

    CUT N CUDDLE
I spoke with both Char and Melissa. They were both courteous however, I chose not to use their services. When I initially scheduled the appointment (a couple of days before I called back to ask about the price for a cut), I mentioned to Char that I heard about them through Angie's List. We have a skittish 2 yr old dog and since this was to be her first grooming visit at this particular establishment, I asked the owner (Melissa) if it would be ok for me to stay with her while she was trimmed. I told her that a bath wasn't necessary (although, I would pay the full fee). I assumed a trim wouldn't take too long. However, she informed me that she did not allow owners to stay with their pet while groomed since "owners tended to make the situation worse and that the other dogs in the store would get more nervous or excited." Needless to say, it was not the answer I expected. It would be like me taking my toddler for her first haircut and dropping her off at the salon with a complete stranger. As an owner, I know my pet best and know for a fact, that my presence doesn't hinder her, but rather helps calm her down. I explained to her that I was not interested in attending every grooming appointment, just the first trim. Still she was adamant that I could not stay with her so I told her that I did not want an appointment. Melissa called back a few minutes later to tell me that I could come in to the store the day before to view her store and she explained that everything was "open." However, I don't understand that if everything is truly "open", why can't I accompany my dog to her first trim? I will definitely not be using their services based on their strict "no owners allowed" policy.

    SHAGGY PAWS DOG GROOMING
I have been taking my dogs here for the last 3 years and this company has been extraordinary. The groomer goes above and beyond to make sure that the animals have a good experience and we have never had a problem with any of the grooming done at all, no nicks or mistakes. She is always done when she tells us that she will be. We are very fortunate to have found this grooming service.

    WONDER LAKE VETERINARY CLINIC
I have been taking my dogs here for the last couple of years and this vet clinic is wonderful. They have unbelievable prices and do their work for the love of the animals and go above and beyond. You do not have to schedule an appointment you just walk in and there is usually not a long wait, the staff is very friendly and the doctors are the very best.

KnowPlace Pets - Stay & Play, Inc.
On several occasions, she went to the trouble of manually closing a malfunctioning garage door that she discovered when she arrived. She is also very observant of any potential health issues that she notices. My dogs are large, high energy and I don't trust them with just anyone. I won't leave them in the care of some neighborhood kid, because they need someone that is paying attention and knows how to work with them. Michelle is all of that. Even my retired neighbor commented on how terrific she was with my dogs, taking the time to play and train them.
