Masonry reviews in Marion

    Thad Tucker

    YOU"VE OFFICALLY BEEN WARNED!

If I could give 0 stars, I would.  If you are looking for brick work, masonry, concrete slabs, porches.... or any work whatsoever related to masonry in any form or fashion, DO NOT HIRE THAD TUCKER OR BRICKWORKS.  This company is a complete joke.  He is a con artist at its finest.

I hired Thad Tucker to complete a project for me in Marion IL.  I needed to have new steps built, new sidewalks, and some masonry work done on the porch.  He was a friend of a friend of my fathers, so I thought he would be trustworthy.  He talks a great game.  He will sell you up and down about how good he is at is work.  He will name drop and talk about these other massive projects he's working, so it makes it seem like the little project you need done is a piece of cake.  I gave him $700 to get the project started.  2 days later, he needed $1000 because the equipment he was using to tear out the old porch wasn't strong enough.  Then a few days later, he needed another check for $600 to buy the bricks.  Before I could even blink, I was $2300 in the hole and no work had really been completed.  In fact, most of the work that had been done was done by his friend and partner in crime, Joe Lee.  Now.... I had worked with at least 7 other contractors on this property.  I paid everyone 1/2 upfront, and the other half when the work was completed.  Somehow, I let this con artist slide on this, because he was a friend of my dad's friend.  That was the first and last time I ever make such a bone headed mistake.

I cannot even begin to put into words how lazy this guy is.  This project should have taken 2 weeks AT THE ABSOLUTE MOST.  Its been 2 months, and the project still isn't over.  I officially fired him yesterday.  I won't let him back on the property, but this is only after I dug myself into a $5K hole.  A lot of that I started paying directly to the different companies for materials, but nonetheless, Thad still walked away with a nice profit after doing no work.  At one point, I paid $140 to bail his fat butt out of jail so that he could work on my house.  (That's right - I'm clearly an idiot).  I tried over and over to motivate and get this guy to finish the job.  At first, when he was finally making progress, the work started to look pretty good.  Then, what I realized after having other contractors come over and quote finishing the job, I realized that the reason he wasn't completing his work was because he didn't know what he was doing.  Even an average joe with no masonry experience could see that the lines of the bricks were slanted and uneven.  The bricks on the outer edge were so messed up, it wasn't even funny.

Bottom line - this guy is a thief, a lazy excuse for a contractor, a terrible human being.  If you hire him after reading this, you clearly have too many screws loose.  I wish I would have read a review like this prior to hiring him.  It would have saved me soooooooooo much money, headaches, and wasted time arguing with this loser.  Don't let him rip you off like he did me.

    Wish me luck in court!

    Dennis Robinson Masonary
I called and asked if he would be able to come give me a quote on foundation repair. I had seen the glowing reviews on Angie's List and was excited to work with him - I didn't care what the price was going to be. I had made up my mind that he was our man.
On the first phone call, he sounded distracted and said that he was busy and would call me back.
A week later, he had not called back so I called him again.
He said he would come out to the house soon and would call me in a couple of days to set an appointment.
Another week later, he had not called so I called him back.
He had no idea who I was!?
Needless to say, we decided not to use his services for foundation repair and ended up calling someone else.
    Very disappointing.
