AAll the doctors we see at the clinic are very good and have a really good bed side manner. Sometimes the appointments are not on time but I feel that is because the doctors do not rush the visits. All staff members from the receptionist to the nurses are very friendly and caring. The clinic does need to teach the folks that answer the phone some people skills. The answer the phone very cheery and then their demeanor changes after you tell them which doctor's office you wish to speak to. It almost seems like you are bothering them. All and all the Springfield Clinic is very good.

BThe medical staff; nurses, CNA’s, therapists,
and others perform their jobs in a professional manner and always have the
patient’s best interest in mind but because GRH has limited resources for
treating any type of severe injury or serious illness the hospital itself is
quite commonly referred to as a and quot;band-aidand quot; station. One reason for
that nickname is that for years the hospital has had the reputation of cleaning
up the wounds, slapping on a band aid, and sending you on your way .. either to
your home or to another hospital.
Listed below you can see some additional
problems that I have personally experienced in the past when dealing with GRH;
these have surely played a part in earning the hospital a reputation as a
band-aid station as well.
1.)
The hospital doesn't have the
lab testing capabilities of a larger hospital in a more populated area; due to
that fact, patients that are admitted to GRH often times get transferred to a better
hospital at some point. Another problem with the lab is the fact that when the
staff draws blood for testing (for example), the blood is sent out to be
processed and the results interpreted by a private company which means that
those labs test results that should take just hours if processed at the
hospital getting test results back WILL take days rather than hours
2.) The radiology department has a very similar problem to the lab. X-RAY’s
and other film images that require a radiologist to read them are actually read
off site by a privately owned company also which results in delays as well.
I have personally seen the delays listed in paragraph’s 1 and 2 above
leave patients waiting a few days for the test results (or more if weekends or
holidays and etc.) AND more specifically, some are waiting to see if they have good
or bad news about cancer or other terrible illnesses that they are testing for.
3.)
Greenville Regional Hospital
is also greatly lacking in the most recent and proven medical testing equipment
as can be found in the larger hospitals. This is kind of a pain because if you
need to have an MRI or Myelogram (or any one of many tests) done then you will end
up driving 50+ miles to have the testing done someplace or else pay an
ambulance patient transport charges to have the test done in Springfield, IL or
St. Louis, MO.
4.) The
doctors, specialists, and surgeons working in the GRH clinic come from St.
Louis, MO and with only a few arrogant exceptions most of them are very nice
people. Other than one heart surgeon that owns property in Greenville, the very
well-known and experienced specialists and surgeons from St. Louis do not work
at the clinic.
In regards to the Emergency Room at
Greenville Regional Hospital my suggestions are this:
If you are not in immediate need of emergency
care don’t go to Greenville Regional Hospital at all .. simply drive west on
I-70 to the first Troy, IL exit and gt; turn right and gt; approximately 2 miles down
the road on the left side will be Anderson Hospital and gt; the Emergency Room is
on the south side of the building / travel time from exit 45 at Greenville to
Anderson Hospital is approximately 30 – 35 minutes by car.
Only if you are in immediate need of emergency
care would I recommend that you go to Greenville Regional Hospital. After you
have been treated and the doctor comes in to discuss what happened with you, if
he or she wants to admit you in the hospital this would be an opportune time to
ask if you can transfer to a different hospital in St. Louis, MO or
Springfield, IL depending on the severity of your illness or injury; you can
also ask the doctor if your family or friend can take you to the new hospital
so you might save money, a 50+ mile transfer by ambulance (each way) to a different
hospital can be very expensive for you, especially if your insurance won’t pay for
that expense.

CThey were pretty horrible. The cardiologist never really looked at my chart or asked me any questions. He was very dismissive of me and my wife. He refused to answer any of our questions. It was not a very good experience especially for something that was solved pretty easily. You should be very careful about going in the cardiology care of this hospital.

AAt 1:30 this morning the alarm in the oxygen went off, so we called this number and they were out here and responded within half an hour, which I thought was very good. This is the first time we are using them because we came home from the hospital and needed oxygen, so they stopped by the hospital to give us a tank and then they set up the oxygen here at the house. They came right out and replaced it when had a problem this morning and there has been no problem since. We decided to go with them because a couple of people at the hospital had recommended them.

AI think she cares. She is really concerned about our health. She is always available. For some other little things, I go to a walk-in clinic, she'll tell me you should have called me and I would have worked you in. I had a situation back then where I had a sinus infection or something and it felt like an abscessed tooth and I went to a walk-in clinic and the doctor there was very nice and he gave me medicine and it didn't fix it. When I finally went ahead and called Jane, and she saw me and gave me medicine that was stronger, which did fix it. She knew my history and various things.

AMemorial Hospital Of CarbondaleMy ER adventure started with an almost full-body rash that appeared for what seemed like no reason whatsoever. I went to the ER only because another doctor told me to go there. I walked in and was greeted by someone immediately, who walked me to the front desk. After a couple minutes explaining my situation, I sat in the waiting area for maybe 5-8 minutes. I was quickly brought to an area where two nurses examined me; they were extremely kind and informative, and had great attitudes. They walked me to another area, where I was seen by other nurses and a couple doctors. At the time no one could tell me much about what I was experiencing, since my blood work was perfect, my urine tests were normal, I had no symptoms other than a full-body rash, and I had no visible bite marks. (Only a couple days later did the bite mark from the brown recluse or black widow become visible.) For the information they had, the folks who saw me were great. Everyone was kind and informative, and I was seen very quickly. Definitely come here for great care.- Tony S.

ASt Marys HospitalI was greeted by the clerk at the desk. I went into a cubby and answered insurance questions and contact information including emergency info. I was then invited to sit in waiting room where I waited with others. I was called to the lab after a while. The lab worker was friendly but did not explain the proceedure to me. I also did not see that she had washed her hands before drawing my blood. Her glove did tear during proceedure which is what made me wonder if she washed her hands betwen clients. I did call afew days later to get the results which were not offered to me- Kim V.

ASarah Bush Lincoln Health CenterWe had a great experience. Overall the nurses were very caring and informative. They always asked if we needed anything. They got us out in a very timely manner. Overall everything went well. This was the third child we've had there. It is a small hospital. They have built their labor and delivery department to be a well rounded and well oiled machine. They care about you.- Greg H.

ASt Josephs HospitalI had all my previous ob/gyn visits here. The doctors were outstanding. I started my prenatal visits in April 2013. My daughter was born October 2013 and the doctors and nurses were great since I was having a high risk pregnancy. They were great with all my questions and all the procedures. The nurses especially make you feel warm and welcome. They are very caring and helped us out tremendously!- Amy C.

ASarah Bush Lincoln Health CenterI took my wife to the emergency room. There she was treated with care and understanding. Her Blood Pressure was 244/160 HR was 177. She was dying. They tried many things that didn't work, but they kept trying instead of giving up. Dr. Goyal and Dr. Lystala were invaluable. She was in the hospital for 5 days. They discovered that her heart had a virus. If it wasn't for Dr. Goyal, she would now be dead. She was always treated with respect and compassion, as if she was the only one at the hospital. Since then, we have had many Dr. appointments. The Dr. Goyal has never forgotten her name. Passing in the hall when she was having some tests run approximatly 1 month after discharge, he called her out by name and asked how she was doing.- Gerald W.

AMemorial Hospital Of CarbondaleThis was a wonderful experience for them, having their first child, and for us as the family. They comforted her and helped to make her as comfortable as possible before during and after labor. She was in labor overnight, and this hospital was accommodating to the family, allowing them to still visit and be by her side even after visiting hours. The room was large and spacious, enough room to accept visitors and all the flowers and gifts they received while there. All in all, a wonderful experience, and I plan on having my children there as well.- Hayley C.
