I originally went to Gruno's looking for an engagement ring on black friday because of their "free Apple iPad" offer for spending over $2500. I wasnt ready to spend the money that day, but was told by the store manager Chad that if I were to purchase a the setting, and the diamond from them the following week, that Gruno's would still honor the free iPad promotion. I did end up purchasing both there the following week, however he refused to follow through with the free iPad deal. More importantly, my salesperson Jen showed me numerous IDEAL cut Lazar diamonds. Making sure to stress the importance of a Lazar Ideal cut diamonds. I came back a couple days later with a printout of some comparable diamonds from bluenile.com. Jen showed me a diamond with the exact same specs as shown in my online printout....OR SO I WAS TOLD.... after negotiating for what I thought was a good price, I proceeded to purchase the set for $6500 in cash. When my special ordered setting came in, and stone mounted I was surprised to see that the diamond cut shown in the GIA certification on my appraisal sheet was shown as "VERY GOOD"...NOT IDEAL cut as originally stated. I called them up to try to work out the misunderstanding, but as stated by store manager Chad..."too bad, you bought it". I further attempted to try to work out the misunderstanding by approached them with a coupon my friend just gave me for $500 off purchase of $3000, but they told me that wouldn't apply either. They use deceptive sales techniques and practices to procure sales. Don't ever expect to use any promotional coupons or deals they offer, there is undoubtedly a caveat.

UPDATE: After wearing the ring for 3 months the diamond fell out of the setting. One of the kids at my fiance's school ended up finding the diamond on the floor in the hallway. We went to Grunos who initially said that they would fix it. I said I would rather them send it into Scott Kay to have reset. They agreed. Three days later the president, Brent Mead, called me up and said that based on our prior dealings and subsequent online review that they would rather have me deal with Scott Kay directly and no longer do business with me. He later said that he wanted for me to have a pleasent experiance with the ring, so it would be better if I went somewhere else that I would be happy with. (Kinda late for that Brent). I agreed, because I really wasn't looking forward to dealing with these clowns again. He also said that it looked like it had been stepped on, and illuded to the fact that it had been damaged intentionally. Give me a break. Do these guys really think that I would intentionally break the ring just to give them grief? Not to mention I showed up with the diamond in hand. If I really wanted to stick it to them don't they think I would show up sans-diamond. Good riddance.
