There are several different nurses who come each week; some are better than others. Had to have one nurse pulled out due to causing me more pain, increasing the size of skin wound and infection. She applied a 4x4 sticky foam dressing. I told her in the past that I cannot have that applied because it will rip my skin open.

Overall, I am very satisfied with their service and level of care provided. My mother also is happy when they come over by her and sit with her. They offer to do many things for her personal hygiene and comfort and provide her medications. They offer services of their in house physicians, pastors and nurses. They make and serve her some of her meals. She has a case manager/nurse that I talk with frequently and keeps me informed of her condition.

When my insurance company was making payments for my sons breathing machines (called BiPaps, for those interested) I noticed that each payment was so high, that just a single payment--a SINGLE payment--could purchase, literally purchase, a new BiPap off some vendors on the internet. And insurance was making these payments to Apria every month for months on end! Further, my husband and I were needing to pay 20% of these outrageous amounts every month. We were spending thousands of dollars every year to Apria for our sons BiPaps, when we could have used that money to just buy a dozen of them new, and donated the extras to poor children. It was so insane!!! I called our insurance company, who should have cared about the waste, and even stated on every Explanation of Benefit (EOB) Form that they mailed me something about "customers helping to keep costs down". Yet when I called about the Apria scandal, they did nothing. Finally, I enlisted our pulmonologist, who DID care. She finally got it where my husband and I were forgiven OUR part--but our insurance continued to pay until those BiPaps were "paid off". You could have bought each boy the best wheelchairs in the world--that go up and down stairs!--for what they spent. Ha! My attempts to get help at Apria were sad. There was one man there who pretended to care, seeing me as a media threat. He wrote off our co-pays. But it upsets me greatly to know how Apria socks it to families on a daily basis. I know of MANY other healthcare companies that are reputable. I am submitting a review of one in my area. I really want to urge you to avoid this company. There is a policy--company wide--of putting the dollar first, and I believe that I will read one day about some shaky bookkeeping at Apria. I love writing the many positive reviews I submit for Angie's List. It is rare I feel so strongly negative about a company--but I do about this one.
