  • My experience with the company and Matt the owner went considerably beyond my expectations. My first phone consultation with Matt generated a list of the likely causes of my door operator's problems as well as an appointment to check/repair the motor (on a Saturday no less). The morning of the appointment I got a text asking me to confirm the appointment window, followed by a phone call telling me when he was 30 minutes away from arrival (ON TIME!). Matt was very professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He answered all my questions not only from his own considerable experience but also citing feedback from other customers' experiences. He gave a couple of options to consider, and in the end I chose to replace the motor rather than repair it because I had wanted to add some features and accessories that together with the repair part would have cost nearly as much as a new unit that already incorporated the upgrades I wanted. This was one of the most pleasant experiences I have ever had with a contractor and I give Matt and his company the highest marks.

  • Called Mike at around 1:30 pm as he was finishing up another project. He was at my home by 2:00pm the same day. He replaced both springs as the other spring was old as well. By 3:30pm the door was operating smooth as the day it was originally installed.

  • the guys were prompt to my house and went into my garage with the door closed. When they wanted to show me that I needed an entire new door and springs they attempted to open the garage door and it failed to open because the spring came off the track. To them this was proof that I needed a new door. I have no idea what they did in the garage when the door was closed. The door worked before they went in and didn't work when they came out. The door is old, it is creaky but I was not happy. Too coincidental.

  • Fantastic! One of the sensors near the floor was blocked by a trash can! The gentleman showed me how to keep the electric eyes unblocked and clean. Then he did all these things: cleaned, aligned, and tightened photo-eye sensors; tightened "J" arm; cleaned out bulb sockets; cleaned bottom of door; tightened chain on opener; checked all rollers carriers, bearing plates, and cables; lubed rollers and carriers, hinges, bearing plates, and springs. He also explained how to replace the pull cord onto the trolley if I need to close the door manually. This gentleman explained things as he went--helping me understand how I could help keep my garage door and opener in fine working order. A year ago, the original installer of the garage door and opener from another company didn't understand the finer points of installation, so the man from Barrett Garage Doors had a lot of adjusting to do. As an example, I always wondered why my garage door wouldn't go up if it bumped into something or someone. (Thank goodness children aren't anywhere near my garage door!) So this adjustment was one of many to ensure my garage door would work properly. Service call was $149.00 with $5.00 additional for parts/oil plus $.40 tax.

  • Second time using this firm. The garage-door spring suddenly broke with the door stuck down. Professional and prompt service all the way around. Called about 8 a.m. A few minutes later had a call-back with an ETA of 9:30-10:30. About 9:30 two techs arrived, sized up the job, went about their work and finished in about 20 minutes or so. Door never has worked better in its 30 years. Price was in the range expected based on recent spring replacements from others we know. Definitely will call them next time we need service.

  • PLEASE READ ENTIRE REVIEW. AUTHORITIES WERE CALLED! FALSE ACCUSATIONS! I spoke with Will on the phone and he gave me a verbal quote for the new doors. I decided to go with them for the job. He said he will have a technician come out and measure the opening before they order the doors. Will said he will call me back in a few minutes and let me know when the tech will come out. Hours later I had to call him back. He said he is finishing up a job and will come over next. an hour later I had to call him again. I said i could stay home for about another hour and wait for him even though I had plans. He said ok once the tech was done, he will come over. 45 minutes later, he actually called me and said the tech will come out tomorrow morning between 9-10. I wasted all day staying home from the morning I said I wanted them to do the doors waiting on someone to come out to measure.They actually did come out and measure. Doors were installed the next day, however they did not finish because they did not have all the parts. I had them install an opener that I purchased because their price for an opener was ridiculous. He said he will come back the following day, but wanted payment that day. I said I am not going to pay for something that is not complete and I would be using a credit card as shown on Angies List that they accept. He told me if I was using a CC that there would be something like a 5% charge. That is not stated on their Angies List page or their website. So I did not pay, he came back the next day when he said and proceeded to finish the doors and opener. I had to leave before he was finished so I left him a check and of course the total was not the same as quoted because of "extra materials needed". Dont you think they know exactly what they need all the time? He left the receipt in the mail box. When I returned home, I went out to try the doors. The Chamberlin 1hp garage door open I purchased went up so slow that my 15 year old Genie was twice as fast. I was not happy. I called and talked to Will again and he said it the opener and thats the speed because the door is too heavy. First lie. a 1HP opener for a 12x8 aluminum raised panel door? I called Chamberlin and they said it sound like the door is binding. So the same tech comes back out on New Yeas Eve and look at it. He first said with the door removed from the opener is its the same speed. Another Lie. He said it was because the opener has a logic board and will always be the same speed regardless.So i timed it with him and there was a 3 second difference. I tried to explain to the middle eastern man that as the door goes up, it has a distinctive audible tone difference when each pane turns, binding. You can clearly hear the motor bogging. So he shows me how easy it is to go up by hand, but I did not buy an opener to raise my door by hand. Every time I tried to explain my concerns, he interrupted and i could not get a word in edge wise. I finally got so frustrated that I told him to get off my property and I was stopping payment on the check, which I did. He said then he would take the doors off. I told him if he does I will call the police and he would be arrested. Being a contractor myself I know that is against the law to do. I had to tell to leave 3 times. He finally pulled the truck off the driveway and parked in front of my home. I put the kids in the car and went right over to the bank to stop payment. I wondered why he was sitting in front of my home when I left and thought he was going to back into the driveway and start taking the doors off. As I returned home, I was greeted by Lombard Police. They told me he claims I grabbed him by the sweater and threw him to the ground. ALL UNTRUE! I gave the officer my info and description of events and that was that, for now. I had to go back out and I called Will in the office and expressed my huge displeasure with his technician and told him that he should lose his job for it. I told Will that he is responsible for his tech and their actions because it is his company. Will told me its not his company, he just works there. He would not give me any ownership info and said he would pass it on. I also told him that if he was in charge of the techs, or had any input of hiring them that he should be fired as well. Thats when he told me he did not care and there are plenty of jobs out there. Regardless of what comes out of them calling the police and falsely accusing me of grabbing the tech, why would anyone ever hire this company? As I priced all the door companies for this project, everyone was withing a few dollars of each. Knowing now what I did not know then, I would have gladly paid the few bucks more and hired a better company. PLEASE PLEASE BEWARE! If we dont watch out for each other, companies and bad people will always get the better of innocent people.

  • It worked out great. The work they did is such a big improvement because the garage door is quiet, it moves at a steady pace and it's not rickety like it used to be. It's just amazing. The difference is like night and day. Initially they came out to replace the rollers, it was really a mess and then we found out that the motor was failing, because it was leaving a mark. So I decided to replace it before it goes.

  • Work was done well but after work was completed that day, I called and scheduled another appt. for the beginning of July 2014 and they were a no show. I couldn't find a mutually agreeable time to schedule their next visit so I found another provider. The initial job was done very well.
