Stamped Concrete reviews in Lincolnwood

    5 Star Concrete & Construction
We called Gibran for an estimate on the job. We already knew what we wanted because we had other estimates. Gibran came out the next day, was very knowledgable & explained the whole process to us. He gave us a very fair price & we felt comfortable working with him. He gave us an installation date and was on time on that date. His crew was very polite & professional. The patio was completed on the day he said it would be. There was some rough spots on the patio. I called Gibran back to fix them. He came out fixed the rough spots & even resealed the whole patio again. We were very happy with the whole process. We love our new patio.

I have waited far too long to expose these guys, so at last here is my review.  If you care about reviews and if you are in the market for stamped concrete, PLEASE READ ON.  I can backup all my claims with pictures and detailed records and would be happy to provide them.  This was such a back and forth nightmare in multiple stages so I'm not sure how to keep this review short.
Made an appointment to get a bid on my patio.  Why did I choose Chicagoland Concrete?  Well, there were only a couple people to choose from so info was truly limited. Nice pictures on their website. Dan was one hour late for the estimate but I didn't think much of it at the time, and the visit went just fine.  The estimate and communication about price & details went fine.  After I paid my 25% down, that's when they dropped off the face of the Earth.
4-5 weeks go by and I called mutiple times with no answer and also left emails with no response.  I come home late one night to find that they sent an email at 6:30pm stating that the work might start the next day!!!  I respond to the email and call them(no answer, of course) to say that's lousy notice and we need to notify neighbors, etc...especially since I share a driveway.
The next morning, a crew of guys and a bobcat is rolling down my driveway at 7:30am!  Not even a knock at the door, nothing. They were about to start digging.  I ran out there and stopped them from beginning so we and our neighbors could get our cars out of our garages. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  They just pop up out of the blue and start at 7:30 and are willing to trap cars in garages?
    Work quality(or lack thereof)
    - They were supposed to remove porch stairs and then reinstall after patio was poured.  They left the stairs hanging there after destroying the old patio, and they poured the new concrete around the bottom stair...the stairs were crooked and embedded in the new concrete!  A toddler could look at that result and know it was 100% wrong.
    - Mis-stamping.  There are many spots in the patio that were mis-stamped and the stencils were obviously off or missed, or whatever.  This is permanent and I will have this the rest of my time with this patio.  Concrete is basically a forever-job.
    - Off color:  a wide strip across the entire width of the patio was not only mis-stamped, but it also didn't take the custom color well...and it looks like a separate walkway of a different color.
It took about 6 weeks for them to finally get someone to repair the bottom of the stairs. This includes 2 appointments that were blown off, and not for weather purposes.  Each time I had to track someone down to find that they just couldn't make it and then reschedule.  I had them pour a bottom concrete step over the blobby concrete that had the imprint of the staircase in it. Then I went and built new stairs myself(hadn't planned on that one).  I was told that the off-color issue could be taken care of in a complementary re-seal the next year (it was already getting into the fall at this time).  On a bill of appx $5,500, they gave me a $250 discount for being a "patient customer" in that this first stage of the job had taken 4 months to finish(sort of).  BUT then, after the winter...
The color started to peel up all over the patio like old porch paint.  Dan actually responds to an email I sent and said that the sealant manufacturer would cover a new reseal and re-color and we should schedule something soon.  Then once again, Dan falls off the face of the earth and Maureen the woman on the phone keeps repeating that she will give messages to Dan...even though I've been leaving messages on his cell and sending him emails.  This again goes on for WEEKS with nothing! No appointment, no info.   I threaten to rip them on Angie's List and also report them to the Better Business Bureau...and then all of a sudden Dan responds with an email explaining his personal problems and how he's been distant from the business and not working much.  REALLY????
Now for the recolor-reseal.  I knew it had to happen, but it was truly sad to see the death of much of my brand new grass that bordered the patio.  The old color and sealant was taken off with a strong solvent.  I'd say 90% was taken off...still a few patches where you can see an older blotch of the previous job.  Then, the guys that re-apply the sealant...are mixing colorant into the sealant and applying it with cheap little plastic spray bottles!  My patio is 18 x 30.  While the bottles are being used, they slightly leak and are dripping darker drops onto the patio.  I point this out to the two guys doing the work and they LAUGH about it!  The new color of the patio isn't uniform throughout to begin with, and you don't need to look too closely to see that now we have little dark drip-marks across the entire patio.  Once they did this last part of the job, I knew I was done with them completely and would never call them again unless I was flat-out suing them.
Yet another update:  6 months go by after that reseal, and a couple of sections of the new color/sealant are peeling up AGAIN.  As I said earlier, I'm not going to contact these guys again even to fix their bad job.  I don't want them anywhere near my property.  BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE OF CHICAGOLAND CONCRETE.

They were very punctual and gave me a senior citizen discount. The owner is very genuine and will help you decide what you want done at your home. They don't push you to make the decisions. I recommend them to others!
