Excavating reviews in Libertyville

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • I had 5 different companies/contractors come out to give estimates. Of all of them, Reliable was one of the lowest priced AND really seemed to know what they were doing. Everything went great, which digging into a foundation of a house, could have had complications. Dominick was responsive to calls/questions and made the whole process as easy as it could have been.

  • The estimator was very friendly, thorough, and professional. He was honest with what he thought needed to be done, options we had, and what information he didn't know and had to look into before answering. He communicated well and answered all of our many questions. This company didn't seem very knowledgeable about sewer liners and their quote for work ended up being nearly twice the other company so we did not use them. But they seemed more knowledgeable about conventional plumbing and I would call them again if I have a different plumbing job.

  • I am greatly pleased with the work Johnson Fine Homes did for me. They were a little pricey (although not the highest quote I received for the job), but the repairs they performed were extensive, and the quality of their work was top notch. I actually had a similar problem with a hot water line at a house I lived in a few years ago. Unlike the company I used for that job, Johnson Fine Homes did all of the work (including the plumbing) without involving a bunch of subcontractors. JFH also kept the areas they were working in very clean, and when I would return home from work, I didn't come home to a mess and a lot of dust like I have in the past when other companies (who I will refrain from naming) performed repairs and renovations to my home. JFH also performed the work on schedule!!! I am already considering hiring them again to do a long overdue remodel of the master bathroom in my home. If you're like me, and you take pride in your home, do yourself a favor and get a quote from Johnson Fine Homes, because they take pride in their work.

  • Great! Jordan and his crew did a fantastic job on our deck. We had a vision of what we thought we wanted and their attention to detail and thoroughness not only met our expectations but exceeded it. We will be calling them back for our basement bathroom construction in the near future! Thanks for a job well done!

  • Two workers showed up on time. Emptied 200 gallons of oil from tank in crawl. Began to saw the huge tank apart and cut a water pipe in two. They quickly went to their truck to get a pump and began to pump out the water until our town's public works could shut off the water to the house. The workers were extremely apologetic and called their employer to let him know the situation.  I called David Streich, the owner, to find out how his company was going to remedy the issue. Instead of trying to make things right, Mr. Streich stated that his contract is structured in a way that gives him and his workers no liability for any damage they cause. He immediately expressed this attitude after 30 seconds of discussion. He said if we didn't fully pay for the job, he would place a lien on our home and we will be taken to court. I asked him to quit making useless threats and talk this through like an adult. I have never experienced a contractor who gave such poor customer service. His workers made a mistake and the OWNER of the company went off on me like it was my fault. After, several phone calls and more threats by him, we came to an agreement that he would pay $300 to have the pipe repaired. As I am not a plumber, I had no idea how much it would cost to fix the pipe. I told him I had to talk to my husband about this situation. Meanwhile, a plumber was called and would arrive approximately an hour after Chicago Tank was finished with the job.  Mr Streich called me back and again became belligerent and told me his offer was off the table if I did not pay his workers as they completed the job and were ready to leave. I told him that I would not pay him until the plumber gave me an estimate. He told me he would see me in court and hung up. Meanwhile, the plumber arrived and he estimated it would cost $600 to repair. As I wanted this nightmare to be over, I called Mr. Streich back and we split the cost of the repair. In hindsight, it was stupid of me not to get the entire repair cost. I was just so taken aback by the way I was treated during this entire process, I just wanted to get out of the situation and NEVER do business with this guy again. I feel extremely sorry for his employees. With his volatile personality I am not sure if they still have a job. NEVER, EVER hire Chicago Tank Removal.

  • They were very professional. Met there estimate with no over runs. Put down temporary runners over carpet. Cleaned up every day & left the house in its original state. The sewer break involved digging the yard up & moving shrubs. This also was done with no damage to yard. Very impressive.

  • Went very well - I wasn't in a rush to replace the sump line as it was late summer and rain wasn't an issue.  We worked out the schedule and Dan came as promised.  He explains everything, very honest.

  • AHS and Dan Cox were very professional, prompt and accurate in their estimation and completion of the repairs.   The experience from quote to finish went like clockwork.  An aggressive schedule was established, Julie contacted for 24 hour turnaround with marking, village inspector contacted and the work went as described.  Another positive was the approach to the exterior installation.  The location placed it in a landscaped area.  The landscape was minimally disturbed and within a few days one could not see any evidence that the work was done.  I highly recommend this company.

  • Tom, the owner, gave me a price over the phone. He sent a proposal via e-mail and within two weeks the oil tank was gone. He arranged for the permit and had JULIE out quickly. He made a site visit a day or two prior to the dig to make sure all was set to go. Prior to calling Tom I called two other companies. One visited and said they would mail an estimate. Never heard from them. The other gave an estimate over the phone, said they would come out to look, but never showed. The home heating oil tank was discovered through a home inspection. Cicerco Oil backed a huge oil truck into our driveway and pumped out the 250 gallons of oil (!) still in the tank. Not a drop of oil escaped. Two men hand dug and then cut the tank in pieces to remove. This tank was in a very confined area and pretty much blocked in on all sides by the basement wall, deck, air conditioner and steps leading to the basement. After removal the hole was filled with sand and the top soil replaced and leveled. Tom was a pleasure to deal with, very courteous, pleasant and efficient. His workers were polite and worked hard. I will probably never have an oil tank in my yard again, but if I did I would gladly hire Tom --I highly recommend him to anyone in this situation.
