    3rd Gen Painting and Remodeling
Great job & great service! We couldn't be more pleased with the exterior paint and repair job on our 1890's house! From our first conversation with Andre at 3rd Gen, we felt confident that we were dealing with an honest and professional company. He took pictures of all sides of the house and provided a detailed estimate in writing. Along every step of the way, we were kept informed of their progress and asked for feedback. If there were areas we wanted changed, it was never a problem for them! Their team of carpenters did a first class job of matching the original wood, and the 5 paint colors were a perfect match to the originals. We would recommend 3rd Gen without hesitation, and plan to use them again for some interior work!

    First Fence Inc
Wow- what a fence. When the wind started blowing down our old rotted fence, I knew we needed something that would stand the test of time yet also be warm and inviting if. The first fence blew us away!! It took about 2 full days to replace 200 double layered fence with 2 people helping, but the finished product is incredible and we are so glad we went with double layered fence. The engineering is amazing, and the thoughtfulness of the designer is in every small detail, from extra wiggle room if your posts are off 8 center to a few extra screws in each packet just in case you drop one. A superior product and one I will recommend to others!

    CertaPro Painters of Clarendon Hills
It went very well. The consultation was prompt and helpful discussing what sheen of paint would be best. The painting started and finished as promised. There were 4 people in the crew and they each went about their work efficiently. They did an excellent job on all the trim. I would definitely hire them again.

    Chicagoland Plastering
The actual stucco work was ok but he left a complete mess. Window sills covered in stucco, water meter encased in plaster. Driveway splattered. AC unit was not covered & thus totally splattered inside and out. Nothing was done to protect plants, deck, fence etc. Broke a garden light and plaque and never said a word. Dumped bucket down village manhole which is so illegal. It took 2 hours to clean AC and another 1.5 to get plaster off manhole. Still have to deal with driveway, deck and fence and hopefully salvage some of my plants. We found hardened plaster and other damage in areas where work was not being done. I did call him and was reimbursed for the light. He made an offer to come and see what he could do to clean up. But I could not trust what he would do. We hired him based on what his ratings were and that he said he worked cleanly and would use coverings. None of that happened

They guaranteed it for two years and they refused to come back and repair it. During the time where the sidewalk was crumbling I referred him over to my neighbor to have a tree removed. He removed that tree and that tree fell through my fence, knocking down one of my trees and he refused to repair it completely. He was not registered. He did not register with the village, so the village could not locate him. So people need to know that he is not registered and that he is uninsured so that the same thing does not happen to them. He could have repaired what is damaged on the sidewalk. He could return my calls because after he did the work he refuses to return a call now. He carries no insurance, no liability, none of that stuff. He causes damage and there is no way to repair it.

BEWARE!!! We had nothing but problems with this company! We choose Complete Fence not because they were the least expensive but because we thought wed get a quality fence and quality workmanship, we got neither. Their communication is terrible. We were the ones who always had to call for an update on the install, progress, etc. We waited 8 weeks for them to start install, the originally said it would be 4 weeks. Once they finally did start installing, they disappeared for over a week and left fencing material all over our yard damaging our grass, bushes and flowerbeds. They did not install the fence according to the layout and stuck a wood panel in a gap of our PVC fence. When I complained about the wood panel since we paid for a PVC fence they told me it is industry standard. The gates did not open/close properly and they sent someone out 3 times to fix UNSUCCESSFULLY. We asked if we could short pay the invoice for the damage done to our lawn, we provided an quote from our landscaper and they agreed, only later to go back on their word. We are still in the process of settling the contract with them. I am considering getting our lawyer involved. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

    Budget Right Handyman
No issues.  Quality install as far as I could tell.  Work wasn't trivial as he had to saw out the 7 enlarged openings.  Had an appointment and felt comfortable paying for complete job beforehand.  Very satisfied.

    Great Lakes Builders Inc
Martin visited our newly purchased, 122 year old home in late July.  He took significant time and care in his measurements, examination, and in speaking with us about his initial recommendations - especially compared to other bidders.  Martin recommended contacting a structural engineer, who we then met with the following week.  The work needed to make our home safe was more than we expected, but we decided to move forward with both the engineer and Great Lakes due to the care and expertise they both demonstrated in our initial meetings.  It was clear Great Lakes did not just want to win a job, but perform the proper work to maintain the integrity and safety of the house.
The start of the project was delayed while we waited on the engineer's drawings, which was disappointing, but in the end, we are glad we took this approach.  We were expecting a baby and Mike and Martin did their best to schedule the work before the due date.  They were very responsive and honest during this process.  Our son was born in the middle of the 12 day project, and Martin, Jake and the crew were very accommodating in working with my father and father-in-law while we were at the hospital.
Fortunately, very few unexpected items came up during the project.  When those instances occurred Martin and Jake explained what was discovered, what they recommended, and what (if any) additional costs might be incurred.
The work was completed on time and the crew took care in cleaning up the project.  However, I would recommend removing items from your basement if possible because the dust is not avoidable.
Overall, the experience with Great Lakes was outstanding.  They made what could have been an overwhelming experience easy to understand and manage with a busy and growing family.

Finishing Touch Cement & Masonry Inc.
The contractor was given 1/2 payment, the blueprint for the work, and permit number at the end of September.  It is now the end of November and he has yet to pour the concrete.  The frame was built two weeks ago.   We now have have no front walk, cannot use our front door, and cannot receive mail.  Since concrete can only be poured when the weather is dry and above freezing, this may be the situation for several more weeks.
Day after day during October and the beginning of November the weather was perfect to pour concrete, yet no work was done at our house.
The contractor has one excuse after another for not getting the work done - the weather (yep, he waited until the winter to do the work), can't get a concrete truck, and couldn't find the permit number.  My recommendation, use someone else.

    Anaya and Sons Fence Company
Overall a very good experience.  Sergio came out the day after I called him to give me an estimate.  He came to the house at 7pm which was perfect because I work downtown and this gave me plenty of time to get home.  Sergio gave me an estimate on what it would cost to remove 3 wooden fence posts that had been anchored in the ground with cement, and then replaced with 3 new similar posts.  I liked that Sergio gave me a quote on exactly what I had asked for, and didn't try and sell me on other repairs or perhaps a complete fence replacement for my backyard.  Also, he was able to reattach the existing sections of fence to the new posts, which I'm sure wasn't easy because these sections are starting to show their age as well.  The work they did was done neatly and they cleaned up any mess that was made in doing so. And the price was right.  I would highly recommend using Anaya & Sons Fence Company.
