They were excellent!!! I can't say enough great things about this company. They were very knowledgeable and finished the work within the timeframe they quoted. Top notch quality. They kept the work areas tidied up as well. I have been recommending them to everyone I show the rooms to. I plan to use them on other rooms of my house. You won't be disappointed!!

    From The Roof Down
They were very punctual. Every time they said they would be here, they were always on time - waiting in the driveway to come in. They always picked up after themselves. They were very good at explaining everything they did and why they used the materials they did. They went through everything with me step by step. I am very happy with them. I am redoing my kitchen next summer and will probably have them do that as well. I was very, very happy with their work.

Emmett did a great job removing the walls and floor; all of which had water damage, mold and mildew. He he did a great job of cleaning the area, and was very quite. He gets extra kudos as the entance to my basements is "a challenge" . Which made hauling out the debris extra work. I am very happy with the service, time spent and flexibility. This isn't the original project I had planned, but Mother Nature made this necessary. Emmett didn't hesitate at the change.

They came. We have a very uneven basement floor. We can see it even it's carpeted. We never realized just how bad it was until after the flood. They did absolutely great drywall work. It was a good price.

He did an outstanding job. After we install a generator, he will come back to "touch up" odds and ends. He is very professional, on time, trustworthy and does superb work. We will use him again for future projects.

Initial Contact: Very responsive at the initial call. They were able to come out pretty quickly for an estimate. Initially, they were the highest of the estimates I received but my wife and I liked Mike and were able to come to an acceptable price.
Scheduling: The start date was a bit later than we had anticipated but we weren't in a terrible hurry to get it done. Unfortunately, the actual start of the work was after the two-week range we had on the contract. We didn't receive any vendor-initiated calls until just days before the end of the range. The workers were prompt but we weren't always sure when workers would be around. Some weekends they might have someone there on a Saturday, others they wouldn't. Some weekdays nobody would show up at all (any sometimes with good reason - like drying mud). In the end, they started later than the contract and took a little longer than the initial time estimate. The "punctuality" category would have been scored an A had they started within the two week range.
Professionalism: This was one of the reasons we went with them to begin with. They were prompt with answering phone calls and questions and were overall just nice guys. The workers didn't always speak English (only one of them seemed to be able to hold a conversation with me) and this may have caused a couple unnecessary issues which I'll detail in the work quality section.
Cleanliness: The workers themselves rarely had to come through our main floor so that area was fairly clean and they were careful to keep it clean in the event they did come through. The primer paint coat did leave a bit of a mess on the handrails, handrail hardware, and door hardware that we still need to cover up. There were a few sections of the basement that I had to go over with a shopvac because of drywall dust and wood shavings and our sump pit had pieces of 2x4 and drywall parts (and dust) on the pit cover.
Work Quality: I should get out of the way that we like our basement. It looks nice and we're glad we had the work done. Chris and his crew were very good at the 'big' stuff (framing) but a few places fell short when you got down to details. The biggest issue for me was some built-in shelving they did for us. I had given Chris and one of the workers the interior dimensions that I wanted for the shelving and after all the work was done I went to put in some items only to find that they had used those for the exterior dimensions. I only have about 1/4" of wiggle room (instead of 1 & 3/4"). My wife wants me to call them back out but they might have to redo that entire section and I'm not sure I'm interested in that. After their work was completed, they had left off several outlet covers as my wife and I were going to paint. When going to re-attach the covers I noticed several of the drywall holes were too large and I had to spackle them smaller or some were too small and I had to cut them bigger. Not to be a big downer on this section, we did like small touches such as access panels, door covers, vents, and a sump pump cover that looks really nice and keeps the area somewhat usable.
Overall: I would use them again and recommend them to others (in fact, I did recommend them to someone who is thinking of future work). They were nice to deal with and the cost was average. I would probably place more scrutiny on some of the finer details on future work.  I hope nobody is deterred because of the "B". Some of this is just nit-picky for detail. I gave them a "B" overall because they were better than average but there were some improvements that could occur. An "A" would have been work that was above and beyond my expectations. A "C" would have been average/expected work.

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
They were pretty nice over the phone when scheduling and were able to accommodate me within a week. Someone other than the person I spoke to showed up for the estimate (no big deal) but he was nearly an hour late and didn't call to let me know. He stayed about an hour and a half for the estimate and had pretty similar ideas to what I had already imagined. Also, at no point was I offered to look at pictures of previous work or reference contact information (if that is important to you).
After that, I didn't have any company initiated contact. I ended up calling them after about a week to see what the quote was and they were able to give it to me within a few hours.  My wife and I decided to go with another Angies List company because The Basement Men's estimate was higher than the other bids for less work being performed - for example they didn't include ceiling, hvac, or lighting in the estimate) and they were quite a bit farther away (as you might imagine being an hour late because of traffic).
In hindsight, the only thing that bothered me was that I had to call a week later without instruction to get the estimate. The other places gave me an estimate while still at my house or within a day.

We scoped the project, the cost was reasonable, and we most people agree that we have the best bathroom in the basement again.  I hate to say it but Michael and his crew were top notch on all fronts.  Michael is creative, driven, responsible, personable, christian, and loves his work.   That makes a big difference.   His crews are there at 8am promptly and work straight until 4-5pm until the job is done.  Great craftsmanship throughout.   I couldn't ask for anything more on my end!

So far it is going pretty well and I don't have any major complaints at this point. They are very creative. They have done what they said they would do so far. It is the same crew everyday. They are prompt and cleanup after themselves every night when they leave. They are real quiet in the house. They don't leave early and they stay until the time they say they will. So far the quality has stood out.

Top Notch was contracted to remodel my basement. Since their pricing was in line with most other bids, the contract was awarded based on the design ideas they provided to us on how we could remodel the basement. Hindsight being 20/20 I believe the bid was abit on the lower end based on the quality of the product we received. They listened to what we wanted and then using their experience we worked together to come up with a plan that met those goals. They had computer software to give us a visual idea of what we were talking about and could see it right then and there. Craftsmanship was awesome. Every time I thought I saw something that I wanted to make sure they did, they usually had already done it by the time I got a chance to talk with them. Also, while they worked to the plan they asked several times about details, to insure things were as we wanted and had no problem making minor adjustments as the project went along. They thought the details through, such as, I have a projector which was ceiling mounted they ran a 2in pvc pipe for me so I could easily chase the HDMI cord through, even though I forgot to ask for his to be done. Their housekeeping was superb. They kept the basement swept up and debris free. The workers rolled out a tarp along the floor of my house as they came in and rolled it back up as they left. This kept the dust and debris to a minimum. The only compliant I have is the level of communication wasn't always there. The project ended two weeks late due to a mix up with the carpet layer/supplier. While this can be expected from time to time especially working over the holidays as we did, it took me calling them to find out the status on things instead of them calling me to give me a heads up. I understand there may be delays from time to time, all I ever ask is talk to me. The end result is great and I would use them again in a heartbeat. If you decide to use Top Notch two things I would remember; 1) Be specific with what you are thinking of and/or planning to do with whatever space you're remodeling. They have some great ideas and then can take care of some of the little details you may not have thought of. 2) Keep their number on speed dial because if things run a little long you will probably have to call them to find out why.
