ASelvin's Landscaping & Hardscape Services IncWe were referred to Selvin by a former client, who lauded his professional communication, commitment to quality and the talent of his team. Selvin was not the least expensive option we considered, but he charges a fair price and honors his word. Most importantly, he and his team did an exceptional job with our project. They delivered high-quality craftsmanship on every facet of the engagement. Selvin's landscape designer, Alann, was a joy to work with and listened intently to our vision for our new back yard. Watching his design come to life has been breathtaking. Selvin's foreman, Mauricio, consulted us on major decisions, communicated effectively and was courteous and friendly, as was the rest of his team. Rarely did a day of construction complete without a visit from Selvin himself (which is impressive given that our large project took multiple weeks to complete). We've hired several contractors since purchasing our home in Elmhurst, and our experience with Selvin and his team tops the list. I highly recommend him for landscaping and hardscaping. It's clear that he takes great pride in delivering quality outdoor work. I will update my review with photos of the front yard and porch in spring.- Chris J.

AApple Blossom Landscape Concepts IncI was very happy with Apple Blossom Landscape Concepts. Harvey was very quick to respond to my call and set up an appointment to look at the yard. He did preliminary drawings and we changed a little bit of the design. Harvey answered my questions about the plant choices and I was happy with the plant choices. He also talked about the lighting design for the front of the house. When it came to installation, the workers were careful and did a nice job on planting. I was concerned about the closeness of some of the plantings and Harvey adjusted them to my satisfaction. I would highly recommend Harvey and Apple Blossom Landscape Concepts.- Andrea G.

AGary's Finer Landscapes IncGary was great! I had reached out to another company prior to finding him and I'm so happy that I went with his services. During our initial consultation he took time to get an idea of what I was looking for and I actually asked if we could walk down the street so I could show him a few of my neighbors designs that I liked. He took great notes and pointed out additional suggestions along the way. He came back for a follow up recap of the design, always arriving on time (or early) for each appointment set. On installation day he had me come out to review progress along the way, making sure the new bed was the right size and shape before moving forward and then laying out the plants and bushes for me to allow for any adjustments prior to planting. He is passionate about what he does and provided great information on caring for the plants he installed. I can't wait to see it next spring in full bloom! I would gladly refer him to friends and plan to call him back in the future when we work on our backyard. Thanks Gary!- matt g.

AGary's Finer Landscapes IncI worked with Pete from Gary's Finer Landscapes and it has gone well. We met and Pete laid out a plan to revitalize our flower/shrub beds and add some landscape lighting. Work was completed in October 2019 and now that it is August 2020 I can say that my wife and I are happy with results of last autumn's work and love the new landscape lighting as well. We have a fairly small city lot 135 x 48 feet. Very pleased. We would recommend.- CHRIS C.

AArtistic Outdoor LightingWe contacted three companies seeking ideas/proposals for installing lights in our newly installed pergola. Owner Mike Potucek came out to provide his recommendations. Mike is clearly very knowledgeable about outdoor lighting and is passionate about his work. Mike provided his recommendation to install 9 low voltage LED solid brass light fixtures with stainless steel transformer. Mike noted he could place our existing lights which illuminate our trees and patio bricks into the new transformer. The lights automatically come on at dusk and turn off at the time of our choice. Mike and his team of two arrived on the agreed upon date and, as predicted, they had the lights installed in about 3 hours. The team took the time to hide the wires as much as possible and space the lights to provide appropriate coverage. Mike and his team went over the operation of the system and ensure all of our questions were answered. The work area was cleaned up and the table/chairs restored to their pre-installation location. The lights themselves are impressive and add a very good ambiance to the pergola/yard. The lights only illuminate the intended area and do not overwhelm the rest of our yard. We were so impressed with the experience that we asked Mike for an estimate for installing lights on the front of our house. Our overall experience was very positive-from Mike, to Kim in the office who responded to e-mail questions quickly and completely to the crew who assisted Mike. AIt was a great experience from start to finish. They responded quickly to my request for a proposal. Greg came out, listened to what i wanted and walked me through what they could do. He even made suggestions on how he could save me some money - something the other people I talked to didn't do. The written proposal came quickly, and i was very pleased with the detail and pricing. The installation was just completed - these guys clearly knew what they were doing - something you would expect but don't always see these days. The whole process from calling for a bid through to installation was a great experience. I recommend them whole heartedly.

DShort story: Foreman accused me of lying about something they broke and this project is still unfinished nearly five weeks after work begun. The project involved leveling the patio, which had sunk, and reconstructing a retaining wall, which had also settled. In order to fix the patio, Diaz had to move our hot tub. First, the retaining wall was not done correctly—their rebuild was shorter in height than the wall on the other side of the patio stairs. After this was pointed out to the foreman, they sent a crew over a few days later to even out the retaining wall, which looks good now. However, they still have not returned (four weeks later) to clean up the mortar and other stuff which is splattered all over the patio bricks. The other issue was that they damaged our hot tub when they moved it. When they came out to repair it at first, the foreman accused me of lying about the hot tub being broken. I told him that I did not appreciate being accused of dishonesty. They attempted a repair, which failed. They told me they needed to order a part. That apparently took 3 weeks. The part was installed and the repair failed. We then had another wait while they figured out that they needed to hire a professional to do the work. After a few more days, the hot tub was repaired and now works correctly. However, their contractor left trash all over the place. We are still waiting for the crew to return to finish cleanup, over five weeks after the job was begun. The only good thing has been the communication—their representative has consistently been responsive and apologetic for the issues, but this doesn't change the fact that the workmanship has been poor and the job has taken far too long to finish.

AJohn, is simply the best in my book-- I woke up to a [no signal] message on all of my televisions. I reached out to John and he provided troubleshooting methods I could try on my own before he came out to my home. I followed the methods he suggested and was able to resolve me HD Antenna Issues without a repair visit. I don't know of any repair specialists that would take the time to help someone without getting something out of it. I will forever be grateful for his help and will keep his number on file for future repair and replacement HD TV Antenna service. Please give John your business he is outstanding!

AI can't say enough fantastic things about my experience with Jimmy N and Touch of Green, He worked within our budget, created 3D images of our ideas, and most impressively he started and finished on time and was in constant contact with me throughout. I'm typically underwhelmed when it comes to these types of services, but Touch of Green really blew me away. The other thing I really appreciated was Jimmy wasn't afraid to give me his ideas without being pushy. He listened to what I wanted, but partnered with me to come up with the best solutions within my budget. I couldn't recommend them enough.

AWe used Tommy Pollina Landscape Company to repair standing water issues along the side of the house. They came out multiple times to walk through options with me and my husband and were able to complete the work in one day. So far the side yard has handled significant rains without any flooding and we look forward to working with them again to address additional drainage issues in our backyard.

AI can't say enough good things about Windy City Fireplace. From the moment my wife and I walked in the door, Roger was absolutely incredible to work with. Knowledgeable, insightful but most importantly, not pushy at all. He knows his stuff and he truly went above and beyond to help us with our purchase of not only our fireplace doors but also our brick veneers. After our new fireplace doors were delivered and installed I immediately noticed that they seemed to be out of alignment. Roger personally made multiple early Saturday-morning trips to our house to diagnose the issue and he ultimately felt the best course of action was to replace the faulty doors through the manufacturer. Most places will do everything they can to avoid this drastic course of action because it's a hassle but Roger knew this was the best solution and there was no questions asked. After the replacement doors came in, Roger personally installed the doors himself and was even kind enough to leave me with a few spare veneers I had requested, "just in case". Long story short, there are numerous fireplace stores in the northern suburbs but hands down, this was a great experience from start to finish.
