House Painting reviews in Johnsburg

I contacted JT to help us restore our outdoor shutters as the color had faded due to age and weather. Typically when I've contacted handymen in the past more often than not, they don't respond to your request or take several days to do so. Not JT! He responded promptly. Not only that but he was responsive to all my messages/calls. In my mind he displayed a level of professionalism simply by doing that which is an indication that he's a professional and takes care of his customers. The day of the job he showed up promptly, did the work thoroughly and I would definitely hire him again in the future.

    Rhino Shield of Chicagoland
My husband and I researched the product (It's not paint--- it's Rhinoshield!) and felt that the higher cost would be justified if the product was as advertised. The sales person we originally met with was very good, but when we finally scheduled the work, he was no longer with the company because he had moved out of state. We were a bit concerned, but we began talking directly with Arvis, who is very knowledgeable, reassuring, and also responsive to our concerns. We scheduled the work for the end of July 2016 through the first week of August. The weather was particularly hot and humid with periods of rain. Andrew and Dennis began preparing the house for application while we worked with Roman and Pawel to finalize colors. (Picking the colors, especially when you want a radical change, is probably the most difficult part.) Despite the weather, Andrew and Dennis worked at a fast pace to prep the house for Pawel to apply the primer and then the colors. Very detail-intensive work. Roman did some small carpentry repairs. Pawel did a masterful job applying the actual colors. It is a fascinating process. Of course, there were minor issues with some plants and a bit of overspray, but Pawel (and Arvis) responded immediately and corrected them. Should any other issues arise, we are confident that Rhino shield of Chicagoland will respond in a timely and professional manner. We are finishing this review now due to unrelated personal problems, but we are still extremely happy with our purchase as of 12-25-16. Bottom line, we have 25 years of warranty backing this product and we really love the way it looks. All the neighbors love it, too! You can hire this company without hesitation.

    Jay's Quality Painting Inc
We had lots of rain the week they came out, but they were good at calling and letting me know when they would be out. I am a widow and a senior citizen, so I let Jay know I needed to be able to depend on the job being done correctly, as I couldn't afford to have the expense come up again in a year or two. He understood and he and his men did an excellent job of replacing bad boards with new, sanding, power washing and giving the decks two coats of stain. I am so very pleased at how good my decks look now. I worry no more about possibly falling through a deck, thanks to Jay's Quality Painting, Inc.

I originally hired another painter that was recommended by my neighbor to do the aforementioned painting and he was suppose to start in July.  Well after him never showing up nor calling or returning my phone calls I decided to find someone else.  I called John at the end of August and he came out that same evening to go over my painting needs.  He promptly came back with a quote the following day which I accepted immediately.  What I appreciated about his quote was he was upfront and honest about potential problems he may find while prepping the walls. This for us meant "no surprises" once he was here doing the work.
When it came to his painting work, 2 words come to mind: outstanding and flawless.  He was here for a total of 4 days and 1 day included his son, who also is an exceptional painter.  They both were very pleasant and kept everything super clean.
Today when I read through some of his previous reviews I found one in particular that made me laugh.  I never knew John prior to him painting my house, but to say he is "messy and lazy" is outright atrocious.  He did exceptional work at my house and at no time did I find him lounging around doing nothing.  He was a hard worker, he showed up promptly and completed my job in 4 days flawlessly. Don't think he would be in this business that long if that was true.
Would I hire him again, absolutely without hesitation and I now would recommend him to anyone who asks about a painter.

Overall it went fine.  Great communication with the owner.  The weather didn't cooperate so the project took aprox. 3 weeks.  They accidently left the hose on over night, but took $50 off the total bill.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it didn't turn out very well. There were no additional charges. I had never used them before. The big deal ran in April and May, and he came out right away to look at what I wanted him to do. He said that because he had a regular job, and he was going to do these kinds of Angie's List things on the side sort, it would be until August, before he would be able to get to me. So it was like 3 months from the time he came out, that he could do this work for me. I wasn't in a big hurry, and so I said that was fine, and then by the time August came, I had a whole list of different things that he could do, and I actually had someone else do half the things on the list. All I had was for him to do some outside painting for me, and so I emailed him in August about when he would be coming. He said it would be over the weekend. I had emailed him on the 1st of August, and when I didn't hear him by the last of August, I emailed him again, didn't hear from him, and the third time, I called him, and he said that my email had gotten lost. He ended up coming out in September, and he told me that he would be here at 8 in the morning, but he didn't get here until 10. The big deal was for a specific number of hours, so it was for 8 hours, and I had told him when we set the appointment, that I had to leave at 4 in the afternoon, and so he had to be done by 4. That is why he said he would come at 8, so he would be done by 4. So, when he is already 2 hours late, and I am gone, that is only 6 hours, and I am paying for 8 hours, and he is not coming back again to finish the 2 hours. He ended up saying that he stayed later, and he did all the painting that I asked him to. It was painting for the outside doors of my house, they needed to be sanded, primed, and then painted, and he said that he put 2 or 3 coats of paint on them. He just did primed the last one, and he said that he put in his whole 8 hours, because he stayed after I left, but I don't know if he stayed or not. When he got here, I got upset, and he didn't explain why he was late. He then went into the whole thing about how Angie's List had kind of screwed him over, because he had wanted to only run the ad for a few days, and by the time he got his 15 number of few customers, that's all he could handle, and they wouldn't let him pull down the ad. So he got too many people, and he got behind, and he didn't want me to report him, and say that I got delayed on the job and his fault. He was late by 3 months, and then it was 2 months after that, and he got late here, and he didn't keep his word. The painting was fine, but I just thought he didn't take responsibility for his own errors, and he didn't want me to put the posting. I wouldn't hire him again. The actual work that he did was fine, he sanded the door, and put the number of coats that he said he would. I will have to paint the one door that he didn't finish in the spring.

Overall the projects went very well. The old house was a challenge because of the many paintings and scrapings it has received over the years. Some rotted wood was replaced and some gutters were replaced. The gutters were replaced by another company that AD works with. The gutter expense was reasonable and done in cooperation with AD. The newer house was not as challenging as the old house. All work was done in a timely manner. The time line was to complete the old house in 5 days, wait two weeks, then spend 3 days on the newer house. Eric communicated well and kept us updated with weather delays etc. There was not one instance where we were waiting around wondering if a crew was going to show up. We always knew the schedule in advance and they were always on time. Before the jobs began, Eric went through the details of each project, as well as the nuances of old verses new. The older house would take longer because of the pre-work (scrapping, power washing, wood repair). It would look great, but would not look new. The newer house when completed would look near new, as there was minimal pre-work required and all the wood was in good shape. I have never seen any project where a small item was missed. In both cases the missed items were small and Eric quickly returned to correct the oversight.
My wife and I are very pleased and when we get a few dollars together, we will bring Eric back to paint the garage and shed. That should answer the question of whether we would use AD in the future.

Eric and his crew did an excellent job painting and staining my house and deck for a fair price.  They were prompt and reliable, arriving when they promised, and the quality of the work was tops.  Very professional company, and I would highly recommend them.

I had used Profinish twice before (in 1998 and once before that for exterior painting and then I used them again in 2002 for window trim painting when the window were replaced). They were very professional, made sure all the surface wood was properly prepared and did an excellent job of cleaning up. I used a different (and cheaper) painter in 2006. No prep work was done. One person basically came and slopped paint on the house (and roof). When it was time to get the house painted again, I was glad to find that Shawn was back in business. He came out within two days of calling to do the estimate. He put us on his schedule in May for August 6 and called us to let us know ahead of time that he was running about a week late. He started on August 13, spent one day on power washing and then had himself and a 3 man crew working on the prep for the next week. They replaced some cedar board, some of the framing around the car garage doors, did fill and priming of some of the other siding and redid all of the caulk. The painting took about 2 and 1/2 days and while, they didn't paint the house trim, they did redo the entry railings and did all of the two story, 3 car garage siding and trim. I gave Shawn a B on punctuality because it did take a little longer than estimated and started a little later. He got a B on price, but I do believe you get what you pay for, and since I didn't get any other estimates, I only have my previous poor job to compare Shawn's prices. The repair was a bigger job than estimated, yet Shawn only asked for an additional $250 to cover the materials that we didn't have. This was more that fair. I am very satisfied and will definitely use him again.
