Pep Boys Auto Service & Tire
    Oh, I love this Pepboys!!!
They're minutes from my home, they're as good as their word when it comes to how long it will take them to get to my car and then, once they do, about how long it will take before it will be ready for pickup.
    They're very friendly!!
They know me by sight -- which isn't exactly what you want with the place you go for car repairs, but it isn't their fault that my car is 16 years old and therefore needs some occasional work, LOL!!!
The breakdown for the job -- which didn't take all that long to fix -- was $228.08 for parts, $203.34 for labor and $53.50 for others.
I'm very happy with this particular Pepboys and don't think twice about where I want my car worked on when something goes wrong.
One time, I went there for something relatively mild -- just an oil change, I think -- and they found a few other HORRIBLE problems!!!  Like a tie rod that was ready to break!!!  And I forget what else.  But it was expensive!!!
Now you might think, 'They're just making this up to screw me out of money!!!!'
But then there was another time when my car wouldn't start and I had it towed from my driveway.
When the tow guy came, it turned right over.
I told him that was great, but I need a car that's going to start ALL the time.
Bottom line, he took it in, they couldn't find anything wrong with it -- they could have told me ANYTHING -- and didn't even charge me for the tow!!!!
(What was wrong with it?  I THINK that I just didn't have it totally in gear!!  This car is a little tricky when it comes to putting it into reverse.  Every once in a while, I apply pressure to the gas pedal, nothing happens and I 're-do' it into 'reverse' and then it works.  I think the problem was 'driver error.'  D'oh!!!)

    QUICK STOP AUTO SHOP
I went to my Saturn dealership to have my muffler worked on.
My favorite Saturn employee ( I always had everything done there, from a simple oil change up to whatever needed doing!!
Until this problem with my muffler.
Saturn told me that while they COULD do the work, it would be ridiculously expensive and that they always referred their customers to Quick Stop Auto Shop.
THEY (Saturn) couldn't praise that place highly enough!!!
    And now neither can I!!!
I took their suggestion and I have to say that I really enjoyed the experience, as much as one CAN enjoy paying for car repairs!!!
I love it when workers really LIKE their job -- and it shows!!!
They were friendly, professional, courteous, etc, etc., etc., all that good stuff!!
But he (the guy who worked on it and if memory serves, he was also the owner) explained everything to me! Every little detail and more than I needed to know, LOL!!!
He was really into showing me the worn out parts, and what they did and why they did it and why they couldn't do it a simpler way and assured me that it would be fine from then on!!!
I have to add here that they have only been at their current address for a matter of months.
The were previously located at 95th and Pulaski.
I was horrified when I drove by there one day and saw that they were tearing the place down!!!
But there was a sign, telling where they were moving to (their current address) and I made a point of adding it to my address book.
Because if the car I own now ever has a muffler or brakes problem, I am DEFINITELY taking it to them to have the work done!!!!

    How did it go!!?
Well, it seemed like a lot of money to lay down when that only one problem really mattered to me at the time, but  I've got the itemized paperwork and they did a LOT!!!!
They said it would be a while before they could get to the car.  Unfortunately, I had no way to do anything except wait there for it to get done.
That was a long 5 hours.
Now while it isn't their fault that the job took a long time and that it was a rather costly bit of preventive maintenance, I still wanted to strangle them when, after driving halfway home from having all this done, it THEN occurred to me to check the windshield wiper.
They had forgotten to take care of THAT part of everything they had done!!!!
Yeah, yeah, I know.  I should have checked it before leaving the lot.
    But I didn't.
And being tired and cranky after 5 hours and not happy to drop that much money on a running vehicle in the first place, I was NOT very happy.
Mind you, I had my autistic son with me the whole time and HE wasn't happy about doing nothing for 5 hours either, so I continued on home, dropped him off, turned around and went back and told them they hadn't taken care of the main problem I had wanted addressed.
That took another half hour to get fixed and another $62.97 (included in the total listed above.)
I didn't act angry or anything -- mistakes do happen.
But I must say that I wasn't impressed with the apology I got.  It was pretty much just, 'Oh.  Sorry about that.'
I would have liked some acknowledgement that I had been inconvenienced.
And *I* think it would have been nice if they had offered me SOME kind of price break or SOMETHING for my trouble.
    But they didn't.
The only thing they lost was my patronage.
I never went back there again and I never will.
And the only thing they gained was some bad word or mouth here on Angie's List.
