Fireplace Repair reviews in Highland Park

    Lindemann Chimney Service Inc
My experience was first rate all the way. The bad news was the repair work I needed was extensive. 100 year old house with original mortar in the chimney that had been damaged and needed to be removed and relined. Nick, the technician who worked on the project was excellent - communicated well and answered my questions. He and the assistant with him worked hard in difficult weather conditions, up and down the ladder to the roof and hauling heavy loads. The work was done with amazingly little dust inside and everything was cleaned up after so you'd never know major work had been done. Highly recommend Lindemann and Nick in particular for the expertise, professionalism and a great job.

    A-1 Safety Chimney Service, Inc.
The technician called a half-hour before arriving as promised and arrived within the time window. He diagnosed our smoke problem after looking inside and getting on the roof to determine the problem. He suggested a fix and was able to get the parts and fix it that day. After not being able to use our fireplace because it resulted in so much smoke that our eyes would water, we are using it without any smoke coming into the house. It's been great. I only wish we'd called them sooner.

    Fireplace & Chimney Authority Inc
We visited Fireplace & Chimney Authority Inc and showed them pictures of an existing gas line to a BBQ (that had been removed). They were very cautious and came out to look at the line in person before giving us a quote. The salesperson personally inspected the line and said it would work just fine. At installation, everything seemed to go well. the installers were quick and clean. However, the next morning, we woke up to a house filled with gas smell. We immediately vacated the property and called the gas company. The gas company told us that the installers should never have hooked up the new line to the existing line, which was obviously corroded. They cut supply to the line and removed the corroded section.
We called Fireplace & Chimney Authority Inc the next day. They sent out their "best" installer, who agreed that the line was not safe to use. Fireplace & Chimney Authority Inc proposed a $850 solution, which would have required digging up a concrete pad and replacing it later at an additional cost. They failed to take into account that we could have lost our house or died if the gas had continued to build up. We contacted our own plumber, who remedied the situation at a much lower cost and without disturbing the concrete pad.
Although Fireplace & Chimney Authority Inc agreed to not charge us for the original gas line install (a savings of $450), we were very disappointed in their failure to take the situation seriously. We were hesitant to post the details to Angies List, but given the potential danger for future customers, we thought others should be aware. Overall, we are happy with the product. However, if you are hooking up to an existing gas line, you might want to have your own plumber do the work.

I was very happy with A-1. They arrived on time and were happy to answer my questions regarding my fireplace (a homeowner first for us). They left my living room as clean as they found it. I would be happy to use them again.

    Sols Chimney Sweep
Sol is so nice and amazing.  I can't believe he refused to take any money for adjusting the fireplaces and cleaning the glass.  He was honest enough to tell us to find another provider since he couldn't do the liner and we neede it in order to hook up our furnace for heat.

    Stratagem Construction & Home Remodeling
It was great having Habitar and Stratagem work together to do the design and construction of my remodel.  That way you just have one point person who is coordinating the construction and painting and tile, and they have access to the designer, Kapan, when issues come up regarding paint color or style or tile issues, etc.  They built a beautiful wood workstation for me and tiled over my dated looking brick fireplace and it looks beautiful.  Whenever little issues popped up they addressed them quickly.  It all went very smoothly.

His price was about eve with one other quote and since we have used Joe and Tony a few years ago to do install a Patio i knew they would do a good job. They came out two day later and crew did very nice job.

    Perrin Gas
I needed to convert my wood burning fireplace to gas. I found Perrin on Angie's List and gave Eric a call. He offered to come out whenver was convenient for me. I had to have a new chimney cap put on so I scheduled for a couple of weeks later. Eric quoted me a price on the phone site unseen after I described the situation to him. He showed up and ran the gas line to the fireplace, installed a pilot and the logs. All for the price that he quoted me on the phone. He showed up on time, was very polite, answered all of our questions and completed the work in about two hours. They showed us how to operate the new fireplace and told us to call him if we had any questions/problems. They were very neat and did not make any mess. I would highly recommend them as they were several hundred dollars cheaper than a highly reviewed fireplace company.

    Superior Chimney Services Corporation
I had a chimney sweep from a different company a few days earlier. They told me that my entire chimney needed to be re-lined, the chimney re-tuckpointed and new terra cotta tiles installed.  The estimate was approximately $4,000. After this, I found Superior on Angie's List, and boy am I glad. I called to schedule an appointment to have my chimney caps replaced and they were able to fit me in within two business days.  They arrived on-time for the appointment and went up on the roof to check out the caps.  They even performed an inspection of the fireplace and chimney at no charge! They sent the pictures the next day.

We mentioned to the guys that we wanted to convert the wood burning fireplace to gas.  They explained that we had two options due to the condition of our chimney.  Option A involved putting in a new damper system. This would have allowed us to have a vented gas fireplace.  Their price was very fair, but more than we could afford to spend.  TJ provided us with another option, which was replacing the two chimney caps and having a vent-free fireplace.  We chose option B and by calling Superior, saved avoided $4,000 in unnecessary repairs due to their honesty.

If you need any chimney/fireplace work done, call these guys. They are the best and incredibly trustworthy.

    Kingsborough Chimney Sweep Inc
Shawn arrived on time and did everything that I hired him to do. He inspected the gas fireplace for leaks, checked the flue, removed the logs and checked the burner and evened out the sand. He fired it up and explained the do's and don'ts of gas fireplaces. He went outside, threw up a ladder and checked the chimney from the top down. He inspected the cap. He did everything I hired him to do and did not try to sell me anything I did not need. Highly recommend them and would use them again.
