    HP Millwork
Stan spent 15 minutes talking to me about this project, knowing that I would not use his services. We are preparing to sell, so we were looking for something low cost. He gave me advice about code which will guide my ultimate decision. He is an honest man who took the time with me to help me make a good decision even though he knew I wanted a shorter term, less costly solution than he could offer. If you deal with him, I am sure you will be treated fairly and honestly.

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
We had a great experience with the basement men. Steve was very communicative and the crews were wonderful. It was a big project with a lot of unexpected issues, and they still managed to finish a few weeks early and go only a smidge overbudget. A summary of work: -Repitch and pour new sidewalk to prevent water damage -Repair small crack in concrete foundation -Basement finishing (electrical, framing, insulation, drywall, 7 new windows, etc) -Partial rebuild of stairs -Creation of hybrid kitchenette/laundry room -(Unexpected) bathroom remodel -Vinyl plank flooring installation -Install two metal sliding doors -Paint ceiling We would definitely use them again. The one thing I would note is that I sourced most of the finishes (floor, tile, cabinets, countertop, etc), which I would recommend if you have the time. Some of the suggestions TBM provided ended up being pricier and, in my opinion, slightly more basic looking. But Steve was super helpful answering my questions so I could find what I wanted and had no problem installing what I purchased. I've included some pictures. Note that several were taken before the project was fully completed.

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
Everything was timely and on budget, carpenter, electrician, and plumbers were respectful and responsive to our needs (for example parking in driveway not on street). They found inconsistencies in previous construction and corrected them without delays or drama. Great experience, planning another renovation upstairs now:)

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
We hired the basement men after noticing water in our basement. We have older children moving back and needed the basement updated. The Basement Men first filled cracks that were causing the water and then moved onto refinishing. We gutted and updated the existing bathroom and added a bedroom and egress window. They did an excellent job, they were reliable, steve communicated with us throughout the process, assisted us in buying fixtures, flooring, tile, etc. Steves men were clean and very courteous. We now have a dry and new beautiful space for our children to stay.

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
I used the basement men to put back together our Basement after we had water. Steve was responsive to our call and our concerns. He estimated our project, and once the contract was signed, returned with his men within two (2) weeks, ready to work. He removed all of carpet, demoed our bad and wet walls/removed bad drywall and filled cracks in the concrete walls and floor. He then rebuilt the basement back, put it back together and installed a vinyl plank flooring. We had a very good experience with Steve and The Basement Men, we were very happy with the work and would use them again in the future

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
Steve and his staff are wonderful. They are reliable, professional and got the job done on time and at a good price. The key for me is responsiveness. We have significant experience with contractors. Questions and challenge are common in construction. Steve will get back to you and work with you to solve the issues. I am not tolerant of someone not getting back to me. Steve would return calls. text or emails quickly. I wholeheartedly and without reservations recommend Steve and his team.

    Mike Lopata Handyman, Inc.
Mike returned my original call promptly and I gave him a brief description of the repairs that had to be made. Based on the description he suggested the amount of time it would take and the few supplies he would need to give me a reasonable estimate of the cost to complete. I thought his estimate was entirely within my budget and we agreed on the date two weeks hence. He may have given me the time he would arrive but I apparently forgot to write down, and about two days before he would arrive I called again to confirm the day and time. Mike also returned that call promptly, and on the day he called in advance to say he would be arriving in about 15 minutes which was within about 5-10 minutes of the appointed time. Mike began repairing things immediately after we toured the areas where the projects were located, and he worked without stop until he finished all of them. He came up with a very simple and elegant solution for re-attaching the wall panel that I thought would be much more difficult and time consuming. I guess that is why he is a handyman and I am not. There was nothing for my wife or me to clean up because Mike left each of the four locations immaculate condition. I am very happy to have found and hired Mike. He was punctual, capable, fully prepared, industrious, friendly, and gave good value for money. I will certainly call Mike in the future when other other projects arise.

    Swistun Inc
I asked for an estimate. They demanded an 'estimate fee' of $300. When I expressed surprise, they said they would apply it to the work. Of course that would make getting other estimates foolish, since if I picked anyone but them I'd be throwing away the $300. I told them I don't like that way of doing business and said goodbye.

    Swistun Inc
I was highly satisfied with Swistun's work.  The only negative was the price, which was considerable.  However, the much less
expensive roofing work my husband and I had contracted for about 9 years earlier obviously contributed to the water damage problems that ensued (note:  the costs of that earlier re-roof cannot really be compared to Swistun's much more comprehensive job, as that earlier work did not entail tear-off of old insulation, any repairs to the roof deck or any gutter work). . . .  .Thus the realization that "budget roofers" do not necessarily save money in the long run, since the consequences of poor workmanship must eventually "cost" the homeowner.
Casey Swistun is most amiable, as well as knowledgeable.   He definitely takes his job seriously and brings all his considerable skills/energy to bear on each project he accepts.  While other contractors disdain homeowners' questions, Casey seems to enjoy explaining his recommendations and welcomes inquiries which allow him to enthusiastically go into all the nitty gritty.  He also is unusual in the amount of detail he was willing to include in his contract - a good thing.  Casey, unlike many contractors, actually created and processed the change orders called for in the contract. Upon completion/payment, he provided lien waivers.  As promised, he furnished paperwork for all the included manufacturer warrantees (roof, gutters, skylight).
Though only time will tell if the roof installed by Swistun will hold up -  so far, so good.  The workmanship certainly appears superior; I am assuming it will prove long-lasting.
In short, I would definitely recommend Swistun, Inc. for roofing work, especially if the job in question requires any complicated engineering or problem-solving.

    The ABL Group
Visit and quotation from Howard was quick, courteous, and very professional.  Had to wait about 6 weeks for work to be done due to their backlog (a good sign that they are in demand).  They gave us estimated start date that had to be adjusted twice due to rain.  But they came when they said they would.  Workers were very good and professional.  Carpentry was top notch and exceeded my expectation.  Only glitch was that a small section of a roof that was painted washed off in heavy rain that fell suddenly.  They came back and repainted it without any hastle the next week.
