This was an excellent experience. They have very good bedside manner, high quality surgery, good follow up services, and everyone is helpful with scheduling. They also have multiple locations which makes scheduling an appointment easy.

Note: I saw Dr. Caronis at the Libertyville facility. Same doctor, same practice, different location. X-rays were taken onsite, which I found to be very convenient. It was a long wait for X-rays and for my appointment. I was there for nearly 2 hours, and only about 30-45 minutes of that was actual medical time. However, Dr. Caronis was very pleasant and did not rush things. He did apologize for the long wait and explained that they'd had some unusual emergencies to deal with (a complication requiring an immediate referral to the hospital for surgery, for example) that had caused the delay. He listened to my concerns and flexed my knee. I was experiencing an odd popping that had me worried. After viewing the X-rays, Dr. Caronis determined that I had arthritis in my knee. He prescribed Naproxen initially, but I had some trouble with it due to my stomach, so he changed me to Celebrex. He also prescribed physical therapy. I completed the recommended physical therapy, which was fun, but I'm not sure it really helped at all. The Celebrex is great, although I don't take it every day as prescribed. I start taking it about a week before I'm going to do any sort of stressful activity (e.g., long bike ride, ski trip), through the activity, and then go off it again. As such, I haven't needed a new prescription yet, which is good because it's expensive! Later on, I did some reading and found a problem with knees that was exactly my symptoms, which was basically just an overstressing most commonly seen in beginning skiers (which I was, and which I mentioned in the appointment) due to the wedge-stop method that beginning skiers use. In retrospect, I'm pretty sure that was the root cause of the pain...the same area gets used in biking, and because the swelling was happening a day or two after I skied, I wasn't connecting the two. But, I'm not a doctor, so I have no idea if I'm right on this. I do know that one way or another, a year later, the problems aren't as bad, and that could be because I've changed my ski techniques or because of the treatment. It's hard to say.

My wife had gone to this orthopedist for her thumb and I decided to see him for my knee. He was very thorough in his exam and went over the options carefully. The bottom line was that I will need a knee replacement, but he did not push me to do it right away. When I asked when I should do it he said: "You'll know," and gave me a lot of literature to take home. He also gave me a cortisone injection which helped tremendously (so it's not time yet to do the surgery).

I just felt they were okay.  They were good.  They squeezed me in when I needed to be squeezed in.  I didn’t have long waits.
