"Job was very quick, affordable, and professionally done. The windows are absolutely beautiful, my wife loves them. The crew did a great job cleaning up after the job was completed.

"The track on my 18 year old vinyl sliding door was failing and it could not be repaired so it was time to replace it. I saw an advertisement for
" and I decided to give them a call.
came out to give me an estimate on replacing my sliding door. He told me about his product as a replacement door for me. Explained how the door is manufactured and why it is a superior product. At no time did he say I had to purchase this door. He said he would put in any other manufacturers door if that is what I chose to do. There was absolutely no pressure to replace any of our other windows or door just because he wanted business. He was perfectly fine with replacing one sliding door. And there was no pressure to sign a contract that night or the deal was off. His estimates are good for a year. I decided to go ahead and have the
Comfort Design door that
recommended installed. When the door was ready,
the installer set up a time on a Saturday to install the door.
did a fantastic job installing the door and he was perfectly fine with me hovering around while he was working. He was very personable and addressed any concerns and questions I had about the installation. All debris were removed from the site and everything was as clean as it was when he started. When the installation was complete and I got to try the door for the first time I was very impressed. The door is Awesome! It slides with the touch of one finger and the noise reduction compared to my old door is night and day. I am a pessimistic person when it comes to contracting work, since I always touch up everything that was done, but this project exceeded my expectations from start to finish and I didn’t have to fix anything. I am very impressed with
and their products and I will use them again in the future and highly recommend them to anyone looking to replace windows and doors or install new.

Angie's Answers

?

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Cheers!

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

?

+1

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

?

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

?

Thermal numbers look okay when looking at the NFRC.

Do you have any other data on them?  Air infiltration, Design Pressure, Visible Transmittance, and Condensation Resistance are all good evaluators.

http://www.mercuryexcelum.com/images/customer-files/Advantage.pdf

Air infiltration rate is way high at 0.21.

It may look nice in person but the performance numbers are below average.

Everything about this company is excellent. From the Project Manager
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
to their service providers, they provided an excellent product, cleaned up after themselves, performed the work earlier than anticipated and finished the work before it was promised. The communication of the planned work, and the work itself is outstanding. I would use this company again for all of the areas they can complete: gutters, windows, doors and roofing. Use these folks, they are a hard working group of people trying to give people a quality product while taking care of everything they need.

The installers were punctual and professional. They even did a little extra work to take care of some wood rot that the old door's lack of structural integrity had caused. The job was done as promised and on time. Outstanding work and I LOVE my new door!

Still not complete!
Replacement was expected in early/mid June 2015. It took 6 weeks for a replacement window to be ordered and manufactured.
On the first scheduled date, they broke the replacement in transit. Another window had to be ordered. Today, 6 weeks later, replacement #2 comes and it's the wrong size. Mind you this was a replacement to a champion window that was already installed at the house.
So in 6 weeks I'll know whether they manage to pull this off or not.
I'll certainly never buy windows from them in the future based on this experience.

Hiring
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
is the biggest mistake we have ever made. We were drawn in by a competitive price and the claim that they were a family company with family values, but the biggest selling point was a “4 day” completion time, which was promised to us time and again. Well, a project we believed would be completed in a long weekend turned into a 3 month long disaster. We were pleased with communication and the process right up until we signed the contract. After that, it was like a switch had flipped, and everything quickly and surely went downhill. Communication was no longer a priority, and we felt completely in the dark most of the time. If we asked for an update, we always initiated the contact and usually had to make multiple attempts before getting a call back.
We experienced 3 different crews throughout the course of our project. The first crew simply never showed up. The second crew (an older gentleman in his 80’s named
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
, who is related to the owners) informed us on Day 1 that they almost didn’t show up because they weren’t getting paid for their recent jobs. They stuck around and worked for several weeks (slowly, because there were no more than 2 workers at a time) but eventually bailed because of escalated arguments with
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
that they weren’t getting enough money for the materials they needed to continue. The 3rd crew also told us they weren’t getting paid for their recent jobs, but eventually came out and finished the siding, and the painter came separately at the end.
I could write several pages detailing everything that went wrong, but here are some highlights:
- Having to store all materials in our home for a month since the first crew never came and
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
tried to push the
start date back without consulting us. This included several 26-foot-long boxes of vinyl siding that had nowhere to go but the main level of our home, where they sat for weeks. (We were told
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
would call us the day of delivery to schedule a pick-up and them stored in their warehouse until the project began, but to no one’s surprise, we never heard back from her about it.)
- After the disastrous first attempt, we looked into breaking the contract and taking our business elsewhere.
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
threatened
that the materials that we paid for that were sitting on our property belonged to him. We consulted a lawyer and this was absolutely not the case. We decided to give them a second
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and continue, but this was unfortunately another mistake on our part.
- Incorrect ordering of several of our materials: two windows were ordered in the wrong size, 4 inches off (so those took an additional three weeks to come in), the shutters were ordered in the incorrect color, as was the corner trim.
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
took no responsibility for these mistakes and ensured us it must have been the warehouse that messed it up.
- Having to fund the project entirely on our own, including paying the manufacturers/painter directly for the materials and
paying several more deposits along the way so that the crew could purchase materials like nails. One of the days
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
came to pick up a $1500 check from us, he drove to our house in a new car with 60 day tags.
- Appalling clean-up of the final siding crew. They lost our doorbell, trash was left all over (I’m still picking up pieces of trim and nails/screws when doing yard work almost a year later), their personal trash was thrown into our yard waste bags, and someone’s sweaty t shirt was simply left in the middle of our driveway.
- Meeting
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and the 2nd crew leader,
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
, at a bank to have notarized
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
waivers signed before allowing
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
to bring the 3rd crew out to finish the project. Because the fact that they weren’t getting paid for their work was such a large factor, we needed to protect ourselves from them coming after us for the pay they didn’t receive. This did not stop
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
from calling us several weeks later saying he still hadn’t gotten paid and that he’d be taking the matter to court.
- Arguing with
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
about paying the final balance, which we refused to do until we had signed
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
waivers by all the crews involved that we would not be responsible for the money owed for their labor. We received texts from
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
like “help us out, because budgets are tight” and “we really need the money.”
We waited a long time to write this review because we wanted to distance ourselves and share our honest experience with some perspective. Even now, almost a year later, I'm horrified to recall everything we were subjected to. We are reminded of the stress and agony every time we pick up another nail or screw from our landscaping. After all this time,
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
just attempted to add us on LinkedIn, so somehow they deluded themselves into thinking that the absence of our review meant it was forgotten.
Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away. Find a company that communicates with you and that doesn’t ask for a dime, apart from a deposit, until the project is completed and done to your satisfaction. And if you're really feeling brave, our advice to you: do your homework. Not just on this company but on the individuals themselves. You need to know exactly who is working for you, so do your due diligence.

Several of the sliding doors were repeatedly delivered with scratched glass thus requiring replacement and delays in completion. Project was begun in October 2013 and not completed until
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
2014. Caulking around some of the windows was amateurish. FAS failed to provide required information to
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
Energy to obtain rebate and we therefore lost the opportunity to apply.

I received a number of estimates and this was the best, plus had a good recommendation. We knew it'd be a several week wait for the windows after we signed the contract and were measured. They called and said our windows were ready and we set up a date. We were ready. When they arrived, it turned out one window of a 4-set opening was not shipped yet, but the could make a substitute. We did not want a substitute and were not thrilled that they were not all going to be delivered/installed together, but had the rest of the job done, less the one opening that involved 4 windows--waiting on that one window.
In about 2 or so weeks, i called to enquire about the order. I was told they were on the way on a truck and was told someone would call me back on Monday to schedule installation. They did not do so. I called a week or so later and was told the window still wasn't in (and given what seemed to me like attitude that i was bothering them). Another week or so went by and finally the last window arrived and finally they installed the last one.
The install job in all cases went well and they were very professional. Given that this was 8-10 months ago, I've had a
Gridley Window Installers Provider Name Locked
to consider. I notice some of the caulk has cracked as it cured--to me this means the windows were slightly under-measure, I'm sure to make sure they fit, But this means they had to use a lot of caulk, too. I realize that in a house 20 years old not all is square but it seems like they could have been measured a bit more tightly.
Still, overall i was satisfied with the job and the windows are very nice, i really like them. I wish they'd delivered on time and when promised, and not had promised but not delivered on time on the one window.
