    Fortune Restoration
We had an unusually mildewy exterior of the whole house, eaves, porch and step steps, back patio that novice painters would not know how to deal with. Novices just powerwashed and painted which only caused it to come back. Instead, Tom Fortune was focused on finding the source of our problem to ensure the mildew didn't come back. He brought two paint specialists to inspect the house and ultimately they agreed with Tom Fortune's plan of attack. We were really impressed by their professionalism and thoroughness: 1) We received a call and a prompt follow-up by Tom Fortune personally. 2) He gave us a written estimate immediately before departure. (no need to wait unlike others) 3) When rains delayed the project, they kept in touch with calls and a text 4) Jose, the crew leader... he was amazing! He was polite and cordial, provided us a daily update of: a) what was done that day b) what to expect the next day c) the crew moved our outdoor furniture each day d) the crew shielded our plants where possible from the bleach solution needed to take off the mold. e) they hand-scrubbed the mildew off with bleach, and powerwashed the entire house, including front walkway and back patio. f) they prepped each knot in the wood to prevent the color from showing through the paint g) sealed off each door and window when spray-painting the exterior h) added mildewcide to the paint to prevent future mildew from forming i) they even painted the underside of the porch railing, which is uncharacteristic of other exterior painters j) Jose solicited our input on matching shingle color and on the front door stain color. k) Previous painters just stained the door. Jose went further by also protecting the front door with two clear coats and also staining our front porch swing. l) Jose proactively asked if we wanted to check on the condition of gutter, shingles, chimney etc. while they were on the roof, which was very much appreciated. He informed us of a black bees nest that they removed, and where we were one missing shingle from a prior storm. m) The crew did their best to be as unobtrusive as possible as our family were in/out throughout the day. n) When the front door ajar on a hot day so they could sand and re-stain and allowed the various coats to dry, Jose was meticulously taped the interior entry way with plastic shield to prevent wood shavings from blowing in and the air conditioning from escaping. He conscientiously vacuumed the doorway as he worked. o) Near the end of the project, Jose walked the entire exterior with me and later, with my husband. p) Any touch-ups or drips we noticed the day before were already being addressed. Jose was really on top of the details. All in all, we would highly recommend Fortune Restoration and Jose specifically as a crew leader. Our house looks brand new! Price-wise, they were on the higher end but given the details necessary with the unusually challenging project, it was well worth it.

    Castino Restoration
During the polar vortex of 2019, we had a pipe in our basement burst. Cases of water damage were all over the north side, but Castino came out the next day to provide an assessment. Steve Small was very responsive. They were able to start the work the day after. They cut out sections of wet dry wall, removed baseboards, preventative spray for mold, and set fans. John Harvey provided estimates for installing/repairing the drywall and baseboards and repainting. They came back later to complete that work. Work was very high quality. Slobo was on-site for part of five days. As we are contemplating remodeling our basement, we just had them paint the repaired areas, but the paint matches perfectly. Everything looks better than before. Would definitely use them again.

ACCURATE SAFETY SOLUTIONS - ACCURATE RADON
Rich Whisler of Accurate Radon went above and beyond the call of duty on our job, by being an expert resource on the state laws and codes regarding radon and its mitigation, as well as an expert installer/ technician of the system itself. Rich very patiently helped us get through a long and difficult process with our homeowner's association board, who were very reluctant to allow us to install the system and vent it to the outside, despite positive radon test results. With Rich's help, we finally got there, and the test results following installation were excellent. We were delighted with Rich and his work.

    RadonX
After a quick Angie's List inquiry, Lucas replied right back and confirmed my suggested appointment date. I replied back with times that I was available, but he did not return my emails or call. The company's secretary apologetically called me the day after the appointment was scheduled and we scheduled another appointment. Lucas was on time for the appointment and his walkthrough went well. However, ten days later, I still don't have an estimate.

    Castino Restoration
When a new disposal was installed, the plumber who installed it told me that he noticed some mold underneath the sink.  He recommended Castino.  John and Peter came out to provide an estimate and were very thorough.  Peter was the project Manager and led the team on the project.  He did a phenomenal job along with the rest of the team.
    Very professional:
    - at house when they said they would be
    - great communications throughout the project (from explaining exactly what they would be doing before getting started to sending photos throughout the process)
    - respectful of my home:  When they removed the countertop, they asked where I would prefer they set it while the work was being performed rather than just put it wherever
    - provided multiple solutions when issues or additional work was needed (in their line of work, they have to get into a project to discover the full extent of the damage/issue) and they did not default to the most costly option
    - strong work/project results (impossible to tell that work was done)
They also did only what was needed.  What I mean by that is that if only some drywall needed to be replaced, that is what they did, rather than lowball on price to get in the door and then upset to make more money.  I never felt they were pushing things just to make more money.  They did what was needed, when things came up, such as mold on part of the cabinet, they provided options and recommended what they felt was needed rather than what would get them the most money.  Very honest throughout the entire process and I felt like they had my best interest in mind.
I was so pleased with the work Peter and the team did that I had them help on a second project.  I would very strongly recommend them to anyone in need of restoration help.  Great people, great work and very honest to deal with.  I would not hesitate to recommend them to others or to have them help again on a project.

    SAFESTART ENVIRONMENTAL
At first, I questioned the price tag in order to get piece of mind in terms of my air quality and the general environment in my home. Upon completing the service with Safestart, I realized you do, indeed, get what you pay for. Larry is a true professional, with a truly vast expanse of experience with nearly 6000 homes inspected. Quite frankly, you need both the experience and the scientific knowledge/equipment to really give a good inspection. I have had exposure to the "crack pot" mold inspectors in the past who have superficial knowledge and are alarmist - Larry is balanced, deeply knowledgeable, and takes his time - for the cost of the inspection, he was nearly at our house for 2 hours and answered nearly every question I had about air, water, and other environmental quality. The report he provides back is top-notch as well. If you are at all concerned about the air quality or other environmental issue with your home, I would highly recommend investing in Larry's service for a truly unbiased, scientific based assessment. You have no idea of how many hours I spent speculating on issues that did not exist - its worth the price just to get of that useless behavior!

    911 Restoration of Chicago
We hired 911 Restoration to remediate a mold issue we discovered after living in our home for a year. Though we have never had a drop of water since living in this home, the previous owners had, and had fixed the water issue. However, it turned out that there was mold left from the time when the home had water. It was very stressful since a few of us in my family are particularly sensitive to mold. We saw great recommendations for 911 Restoration so I contacted them and Carl came out and we found him to be very knowledgeable and thorough. He explained what needed to be done with the allergenic mold found in our home and the timeframe and cost. We decided to hire 911 to do the job. Everyone we worked with - from Carl, to Wayne and Cesar who did the day to day work, to the other crew members who handled things like air duct cleaning - was excellent. We primarily dealt with Wayne for the 3-4 days they were in our home and we were very impressed with how respectful and professional he was. Both Wayne and Cesar were sensitive to the fact that we were living in the home while the work was being done and they were so considerate of our kids and the fact that it was hard for them to have workmen in our home. Our experience with the people from 911 is that they are top notch, caring, and professional. They helped us through a stressful situation, right before the holidays. I would recommend them highly.

    NORTHERN ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT
We originally had them come out to verify the presence of mold. I guess in the industry to keep things without a conflict of interest you should not have the same people who verify the mold do the subsequent mold abatement.
We subsequently got 3 other estimates from other mold abatement companies to do the work. However we couldn't help but go back to Northern. We worked with Michael Casey each time. He was very responsive to the appointment as well as phone calls. We spent a lot of time on the phone and he was very understanding and patient with all of my questions. I felt very comfortable working with him and what he recommended to us.
His crew came through on the day and time as promised. The work took 3 days. We had been prepared to possible have parts of the drywall in the ceiling get taken out in order to access parts of the attic, however we did not need that. His crew who were amazing was able to crawl into the small spaces and still get all of the work done and mold abated. They took pictures of all of the areas before and after confirming their work.
I got 4 estimates and do my homework before going ahead with work. I will even pay for the estimates if needed to be comfortable. I personally think these were the guys in my geographic area who are the most professional and do the best work.

    PuroClean Disaster Services
Puroclean was fantastic.  Ted, Efrain, and Orlando all delivered courteous and professional service.  After discovering that we had 1/2" of water covering our basement utility room that was seeping into the finished/carpeted portion of our basement (due to a sump pump failure), I called nearby Puroclean.  Ted promptly visited me about an hour later, quickly surveyed the scene, and provided his recommendation and estimate.  After giving me some time to move wet items/boxes from the waterlogged portion of carpet, Efrain and Orlando arrived to address the water and drying of the basement.  Both men worked efficiently, answered all my questions about what they were doing (and why), and confirmed for me with their instrumentation that moisture had indeed penetrated the walls/baseboards of our basement (not just soaking the carpet).  They also explained what level of moisture should be behind the walls and even left a electronic diagnostic tool behind, so I could explain the situation to my wife.  Efrain and Orlando strategically placed about eight industrial fans around our basement to create an airflow that would draw moisture from the walls and completely dry out the basement with the help of a huge dehumidifier.  When they returned after the weekend to check the moisture levels, they even left the fans and dehumidifier another day just to be safe, even though the moisture readings behind the walls were so very close to being "normal".

    AMERICAN ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS INC
Rob Plachy, the owner of AES, came to my home and  I sensed immediately that he was knowledgeable, professional and that he sincerely cared about the health concerns that had arisen in my house due to improper work by another company.  In an effort to be thorough I had bid four respected companies and AES had the most reasonable bid.  I made sure that the job they did would be equal to that of the other abatement companies.
In fact, one of the other companies, explained that they basically do corporate work, but recommended AES The crew was on top of all aspects of the work, thorough, and hard working.  They even went the extra mile helping to clean and move any items we wanted to keep and throwing out the rest.  When I needed them to return, they did so immediately, with no problem.    NOTE:   When I initially called Rob he was leaving town the next morning, but understanding my concerns  (another company had improperly removed the asbestos tile in my basement) he reworked his schedule to get the bid done that same day.   One thing I found impressive....  even though Plachy knew I was very pleased with their job, he didn't ever ask me to write a review for Angies List.  He stands behind his work and that's what he cares about.
