Be careful if you even think of hiring ACOA, and if you do,go over every single line with your attorney. Jason the owner will cut every corner and make every promise, just to get your job. They will "wing your job' on site without using proper architectural drawings. They will cover up old floors and old rotted walls with drywall. The floors they laid for our dental office are not even and now we have to have them re-leveled to prevent people from tripping and hurting themselves. ACOA had cut so many corners for our office to make their bid as low as possible. After bringing in another contractor I have learned how bad of a job they really did. They nickel and dime every aspect of the job and they will use the cheapest materials to put the biggest profit in their own pockets they could! The allowances that they give are a joke, be careful and do your homework with ACOA. There are so many better contractors out there, just ask your dental or medical suppliers who are the best to use. They built our dental office and misread there own non-architectural plans. In our reception area they misread and calculated their plans by over two feet. Upon addressing their mistake and asking them to redo what they had done wrong, they wanted our office to pay $9000 extra to redo their mistake. Because of their mistake we do not have a sufficient check out area for handicapped patients. Talking about handicapped patients, they tried to connect two hallways that one you could not even get a wheel chair past. We had to argue with them to open up one area an extra 8 inches to allow for wheel chair accessibility. Their cabinet makers build cabinets that are no better than the ones you can get at Menards or Home depot. Jason will tell you they are the best, but trust me, at the best they are just average. They charge you like they are high end cabinets, but frankly they are nothing but fancy cheap laminate cabinets. ACOA gave allowances for cabinets in all the operatories and then later tried to increase the charge almost $1500 more than what they quoted for. As far as promises to complete the Job, this too was a joke. ACOA was 6 months over the promise finish date and left our office upon leaving each day with dust and dirt throughout. My recommendation before you even think about using ACOA 1) Talk to your dental suppliers, there are several construction teams out there. 2) If ACOA does give you a bid, check each line item over, not once but 4-5 times and then do your home work with cost. 3) Make sure you use a architect and make sure you pull permits, ACOA used neither in my job. 4) If you use ACOA, make sure your money is on a tight draw, and make sure they complete any work they say they are going to do. This company wants their money before what they say they are going to do is done. Overall, I wish I never used ACOA, they were good in one thing, not keeping their word!

    PKPG Companies
From beginning to end, our experience could not have been any better. The entire process from design through construction was highly professional and extremely efficient. Our home was finished on time and on budget. Pete and Kristen are hands-on builders with attention to detail. They build high-end homes of the highest quality. We highly recommend PKPG.

    PKPG Companies
Peter and Kristen of PKPG Companies are the most knowledgeable, trustworthy and ethical individuals you will find anywhere. Working with them on building our custom home has been such a pleasure. We know first hand that this is not always the casein fact, it is not all that common in the industry.Peter has incredible skills and ability, that are rarely found in a builder. His experience as Vice President of one of the largest US home developers has prepared him well. We give the highest praise possible for PKPG Companies. We first recognized that Peter had a keen eye for the real estate market when he found a vacant parcel of land and successfully negotiated a super bargain in a prime location of Glenview, IL. He then listened to the ideas we had with respect to desired lifestyle, architectural taste, investment value, budget, etc. With that, he developed a comprehensive building plan and worked diligently with city officials on the approval process. His reputation and relationships with individuals were crucial in making this appear relatively seamless from our perspective, but it certainly required an experienced professional. When initiating the actual construction, Peter was was totally transparent on everything. This made us feel very comfortable with the process and we have never been surprised by a hidden cost, up charge or anything. Additionally, he makes insightful opinions and recommendations about decisions to be made. We always felt fully informed and truly felt like we got the most for our money spent. After the final inspection and occupancy, Peter and his team have always followed up on touch ups and other details. Peter and Kristen of PKPG Companies are guaranteed to be your best advocates when building and you will not be disappointed. We have been so lucky to find them. Our highest recommendation goes out for PKPG Companies

    Crain Development
We have contracted Crain Development on several occasions for a number of different projects. They have completed deck projects, Kitchen and bath projects and are intending on starting a large addition with Crain Development in the spring. Josh is a pleasure to work with and provides guidance for all renovation and general home maintenance questions. The attention to detail was second to none. They really made us happy and took the pressure off of us by explaining the how and the why during the projects. He shows up when scheduled and answers his phone when it rings.

Preferred Home Improvement & Builders Inc
Victor and his crew completed a full interior remodel of our home in 2005.  We were extremely pleased with their work and I would hire them again.  We completely gutted a 1950s ranch house.  Preferred Home Improvement installed new heating, electrical, plumbing, drywall, paint, tile, lighting, and finished our bathrooms and kitchen - you name it, they did it.  Although ours was a major job, he is capable and willing to handle everything from small renovation jobs to ground up construction of a new home.  He communicates very well and is clear about what is required, costs, etc.  I definitely recommend this contractor.

    Klosa Properties LLC
After many years in the business of building upscale homes on the northshore, Bruce also has unparalleled insight as to how things should be done aesthetically. He is still the one we call when we need anything additional for this house or our other home which is a rental property in the area.

John came recommended by people in the trades. My wife and I have rehabbed 6 houses so we have prospective: John is the best GC we ever worked with. The first adjectives that come to mind are professional, accessible, level-headed, honest, practical and tells you what is reality and not what you want to hear. We were also impressed with his subs which he has worked with for years. I will also do a separate report on his electrical and plumbing guys. So far, very good.

I saw a report by someone who experienced shoddy plumbing through Schmidt. We experienced the exact same thing. They installed a shower head through uninsulated attic space. The pipes froze long after Schmidt disappeared. Although we paid for high end products - they chose the cheapest option available. It was a constant effort to try and stay ahead of their poor choices. Could not pin them down for the final punch list. In some cases we had to find other contractors to finish the work. Constant demand for payments which never seemed to get passed on to the sub contractors. Some of the subs rang our doorbell to get paid after we had already paid Schmidt for their work. Bernie Schmidt has several companies running under different names so be careful!! One of which is Pure Energy Alternatives. I believe he is still building energy efficient homes in the area. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUILDER AND BERNIE SCHMIDT AT ALL COSTS.

When I asked the owner and designer, Kristen Jasinski, to remodel my basement I wasn't sure of what I wanted. I asked her to "surprise me" and I was beyond satisfied with her choices. I have since then asked her to work on various interior design projects in my home with the same "surprise me" technique and have always been happy with the decisions she has made. Kristen has a wonderful creative eye for design work.
