    LOMBARD TOYOTA
I take the car in. I don't know what you mean by responsiveness. I take the car in and I set an appointment and I'm usually out of there pretty soon. What do you mean, punctuality? I take it in. They are there. They said the car is right, so I go. They are very professional. They don't try to gouge you. If there is something wrong, they are very honest about it, because I would be able to tell. And that's why I keep going to them.

    International Auto Care & Muffler

I just stop by with no appointment and they took care of me as fast as they could. I was asked to sit down and enjoy a bottle of water in their very clean and decent office.  I was given a discount even if I didn't ask for it because they're running a promotion that I didn't know. which is actually impressive! After the mechanic checked my car I was advised to change the air filter, showed me my car filter which was so filthy and dark as coal. Definitely helpful to change it. He advised that I shoulder come back if I  have time to change the cabin filter of my 2015 Honda CRV . But I didn't feel pressured to buy ,think or even forved to change it,but advise to come back another time when I'm free.  On top of that services he added to rotate my tires for FREE. I cant ask for more nut definitely COME BACK and build trust on this shop.I highly recommend this shop.

    Sunrise Chevrolet
They took out the old engine and put in the new. Some of that time was due to having to order the new engine and wait for it to come in. Sunrise Chevrolet had my car back to me in 4 days. The staff was very nice and helpful.

I have been there a number of times since I have had my car towed in there a couple of times, he has done mechanical work.  He does good work, has fair price and I have known him for 30 years.  He is a good man.  I know he does a number of customers here in this area but probably there be people who are not aware and who could probably get their cars done.  He is very conscientious and does a good job.  If you take something in there he is not going to try and sell you something that you don’t need.

    J & R Auto Repair
I have a 2002 Saturn with 107,000 miles.   When Saturn closed, I followed one of Saturn's mechanics to his new job at a different dealership.  They were outrageously priced; and I felt they were doing unnecessary repairs.  I am so glad I found J&R Auto through Angie's List!!  I have kept a record of everything I have done on my car.  I found Daryl (the owner) to be very good at explaining what needed to be done and why.  In the last 3 months I've taken my car to him for different repairs.  When something was not working right, he stood by his work and continued to investigate until the problem was resolved.  His mechanic Greg is also very helpful and informative.  I feel that I have found a trustworthy business and in this day and age, it feels good.  His prices are in line with other establishments that I had investigated.   Since I plan to have this car for another 93,000 miles, I want someone who will help me achieve that goal.   J&R Auto has earned my business.  Thank you!

Merlin 200,000 Miles Shop - Glendale Heights
I have been there about 3 times all together. They told me that one of my fuel injectors was misfiring, and that I needed new spark plugs. They replaced the spark plugs and did an oil change, and everything was fine for a few days. Unfortunately, the light came on a few days later. I went somewhere near by because I wasn't sure about Merlin. They found that oil had been spilled all over the spark plugs. I went back to Merlin, and they replaced the spark plugs at no charge, but the stress it caused me was not worth this. Even after all this was done, the check engine light kept coming back on. Merlin never found the source to my problem.

They tried to tell me on my first visit that I had to have a lot of maintenance that needed done that I had taken care of according to the dealer's recommendation. I feel like they are used to people that do not take good care of their cars, and they charged a lot of money.

Pep Boys told me I needed a lot of extra work.  They saved me a lot of money.  They were very knowledgeable. They were very friendly.  They didn't try to sell me things I didn't need. My car has been fine ever since.

Dupage Tire & Auto Center Inc
They were completely and totally honest on what it took to fix my car, which is why I purchased a new car. Basically, I would've put as much money into the car as it was worth. When they did the diagnostic it saved me from spending almost $3,000 on something that wasn't worth fixing on my car. They've worked on my car in the past. The owner has always been very helpful. Whenever I had a problem that had to be fixed or replaced I would ask to see the parts that they replaced and they always showed me. They are always completely honest with you. They also give you the option and break everything down for you. I also was having trouble finding a rental when they were fixing my car and Dupage Tire found one for me. At one point, my catalytic converter went out just 10 miles above the warranty date, and he convinced the dealership to replace the part at no cost to me.

    AACCEL Emissions & Auto Repair
We researched a good local shop in the Joliet area to bring our vehicle to. We came across this shop from the BBB's website and they had good reviews on Google so we attempted to have them inspect the vehicle. They explained a diagnostic charge would be assessed for their attempt to understand what was causing the issue. Within a few hours they called with an estimate for $500 and said the issue would be resolved that same night and would completely fix the problem the vehicle was brought in for. We got a call a short time later that same night and they explained not being able to get the part until the next day. The next day around 5:30P.M. after having the vehicle all day and not receiving a call back I decided to give them a call. The extent of the conversation was a feeble attempt at explaining they had essentially done the work however the problem was still happening. They in fact did not even state the problem that I brought it in for was happening, they said after the work it was now having a problem with dieing out when putting the vehicle into drive. I explained that is what it was brought in for and they told me the figuring out the problem is a step by step process. I asked what the diagnostic charge was for if they could not even determine the problem with certainty and was told it could be a number of contributing factors. After 30 minutes of being put on hold, being completely unprepared to talk to me and a lot of "umms" later we agreed to leave the vehicle their for further diagnostic, this being a Friday afternoon. We did not hear anything back from them by the following Monday so I decided to stop in and was asked by the service writer, Craig, to give them a little more time on the issue as his technician that is able to look at the vehicle was out of work for the day. It should be noted that I still never received a call back since the Thursday they told me that $500 would fix the vehicle. So that Tuesday was the day of the big snow storm and while there was already a question of whether or not we would get a call back, the shop was now closed because of it and still no attempt to let us know what was going on with our vehicle. Finally Thursday we go into the shop demanding our car back now as they have had it for over a week and the same exact problem still persists. After a lot of beating around the bush about what the problem may be and a lot of arguing we were able to walk out only paying the cost of the parts which was around $200. This person Craig, who was self admittedly a technician for 30 plus years, was a terrible customer service representative for this company. He never communicated even when telling me he would call. He never stated that the $500 they wanted "might" fix the issue. It was supposed to be ready the first Thursday we brought it there. Their technicians are nothing more than mechanics. When you bring a car to a shop with a complicated problem and you are paying for diagnostic work, I expect to be told if the technician is unable to without absolute certainty pin point the problem. Especially when we are told $500 is going to fix the issue and whatever they did, didn't even do anything. Being across the street from one of the emission centers in Joliet and having a big sign that says "We Diagnose Emissions Problems" is not something you should have if the only thing your techs do is throw parts at a vehicle until it starts running again. Anyone who is reading this post should know, they probably do oil changes really well. But for anything else, I would take it to another shop.

    Pep Boys
We went in for 2 front tires, but decided to put on 4 because they were offering the 4th tire free (rebate). The look our Camry SE on the computer, but there was uncertainty on the tire size. Fortunately, the manager went outside to actually check the car. He then proposed several different tires in different price ranges. Although we decided on top of the line Coopers, he wasn't at all pushy about it. When the wheels were pulled, the mechanic observed that the brakes were very worn on all 4 wheels, not a surprise after 60K miles. He took us back for a look. It was clear that the components were very worn--I know since I used to do my own brakes. There was then some confusion as to whether the rotors could be resurfaced or if replacement. Fortunately, the service manager helped sort things out. We decided on a 4 wheel brake job with all new rotors. Everything was completed in about 2.5-3 hrs., reasonable for a busy Sunday when most other shops were closed! The prices for all this were quite reasonable. In a very pleasant surprise, the service manager gave us a 10% discount off the top and found another $60 in rebates for us. We were well taken care of. Pep Boys is definitely a bit of a "blue collar" experience; no fancy waiting rooms or boutique coffee. Still, folks were nice and did a great job on the car for a reasonable sum. Love the new Cooper CS4 tires; good stuff well worth the money. I'm not sure if this is the place for complicated diagnostic figure-it-out work, but We'd certainly return for routine service (tires, brakes, exhaust, oil, cooling system or trans. fluid).
