It went exceptional, Danielle and the team here were really nice and easy to work with. We had an initial meeting in person at our house and discussed our needs and they took some photographs. In discussing the project we covered our budget, must haves, wants, and their team was so nice to talk to and really helped ensure we were covering everything based on our needs and helping guide us on what might be a good fit for our growing family. We did send some updates on additional thoughts we had after our initial meeting, they were well received and some were an ongoing conversation, where Danielle was really patient, helpful, and responsive. Our second meeting in person was at their showroom and office, it was absolutely beautiful and really showcased a lot of different product, styles, and great layouts. The results of the initial meeting and ongoing discussions were absolutely stunning. I really can't speak highly enough of Danielle. They provided us two different options that we went over in their cutting edge and really beautiful digital presentation format, where we could look all over from any angle and even change things around on the spot. Danielle and their team's design was absolutely beautiful, you could really tell they spent a lot of time putting everything together, no detail was spared, and everything we wanted, was fit in to our budget. It couldn't have been a more perfect process. We felt the pricing was fair, it was in our budget discussed, but found out we were expecting a new arrival, so unfortunately we are still holding on to our old house with a few minor projects to avoid major renovations during pregnancy, toddler going to preschool for first time, etc. etc. We absolutely intend on going back to Danielle when we're ready to move forward. The work done on my father in law's house; absolutely beautiful. They basically tore down the entire house and rebuilt it (I think they actually did do that, except for one wall or two). I wasn't very active in the project or process but did get to see it from start to finish. My father in law is a born project manager and "extreme" DIYer, so I know he was very demanding and "detail oriented" throughout the process, he knows what he wants and notices everything. This team really knocked it out of the park, the house went from old ranch to modern, elegant, and absolutely stunning. Raised the roof, beautiful ceilings, removed a room, an absolutely beautiful kitchen, baths, tile, flooring, doors, garage, attic, you name it; it was all absolutely perfect. I know he was satisfied with the process and project, his only frustrations were in village codes that wouldn't allow him to do certain things he wants, or forced him to add some things he didn't want. I highly recommend this company and would high suggest you check them out. The services they provide are an incredible value, you can't put a dollar amount on the expertise and peace of mind they provide.

In September, 2015 I contacted Design First about remodeling my kitchen. ?We used them for another big project in 2013. ?Stacey came out and measured and took photos of the kitchen. ? She asked for my wish list and said she would put a design together. ?We met again and she presented a plan for our kitchen - layout, rendering, an estimate ($ and time frame- 4-6 weeks), etc. ?My husband and I signed on with them in October but we didn't want work to start until January, 2016. ?In the meantime, we worked with Kim to choose cabinets, colors, tile, sink, etc. ?After selections they ordered all of the materials needed for the project. ?Design First took care of submitting the plans to Elk Grove Village since we wanted a permit for the job.? Work started on 1-4-16. ?It took about 20 work days to get the job done, including a couple of Saturdays which was fine with us. They took care of scheduling the proper trades (plumber, HVAC, electrician, drywall, flooring) to come in accordingly to get the job done. ?I know we paid a premium so we didn't have to chase a contractor around to get our job done but, for us, it was worth it. ?Gerardo was the project manager and he made sure the guys showed up at the proper time to get the job done efficiently. ?Any time a new trade was coming in to work Gerardo would meet him here at the house and explain exactly what needed to be done. If we had any type of problem or question, Gerardo was completely available and took care of it. ?The job was finished in early February, (around 2-5-16) besides a few punch list items. ? I feel like Design First took care of most of the small details so we didn't have to worry about it. ?Any obstacles were quickly overcome and anything we didn't like the look of (cabinet door size, backsplash not rectangle enough) was fixed. ?We love the kitchen and if we had another big job we would definitely consider Design First again.

We contacted Design First in late February 2013 and were working with a Nick, the architectural designer.  At the same time we were looking at other companies to do the work. Nick came by and i walked him through what I would like.  I gave him my wish list to see if he could come up with a plan.  He was able to fulfill everything on my wish list which was amazing.  In the meantime, we decided to go with Design First because we really liked the fact that they had a showroom, it was close to our house, and we visited one of their prior large remodel jobs.  After about 5 revisions to our plan we came up with one that worked and we were ready to start. We signed a contract on April 6th, they worked on drawings, permit, we picked out finishes, etc, and they started work on June 25th.  It seemed like kind of a slow start to me. It took all summer and they finished on October 3rd.  The project moved along fine throughout the summer.  I would say there were only about 5 no-shows the whole time.  That is, they were supposed to show up but didn't (with no phone call).  Near  the end of the project (early September) all that was left was little things, glass for the Butler cabinet doors, fixing trim, add a knob, etc.  That's when there was trouble getting the contractors to come out to work on the little items. It was the first week of October by the time all of the little things were taken care of.
The problems we had were, as I mentioned before, getting them to finish the little stuff at the end of the project.  We also spent about 7K on a new bamboo floor.  One of the guys replacing a linen closet door slammed/dropped his tool into the floor and left quite a gouge.  It made us furious as the floor looked nice until this happened and bamboo is one of the hardest floors one can buy so it must have taken a lot to gouge it.  Anyway, they tried to fix it with filler and polish it but we can still see it.  To replace that piece would be complicated. We let it go.  Another thing is that they boast the fact that they make their own cabinets.  Our powder room vanity sat in our garage for quite a while before getting installed.  Finally we asked what the problem was.  It was too big.  They had to take it back and tweak it.  Just ironic since they drew the plans, built it, etc.
Overall, this was a big, involved, job.  We ended up spending more money than we expected and it took longer than expected. We felt very comfortable using Design First versus a contractor who works out of his van who is juggling 3 jobs and you never know when he will show up at your house to work.  Even though we had a few rough spots, in the scope of this large project, we would consider using them again.  We are very pleased with the final result.

I emailed Ed  on 3-4-13 and he called me right away.  We made an appointment for a couple of weeks later so he could come out to our house.  Basically, we were wanting to add a mudroom, powder room, enlarging the dining room, bumping out the back of our house, etc.  Ed discussed with us our wants and then told us about his process.   We saw pictures of his work and it they were really nice projects.  He said he would come up with the design which could cost anywhere from $1600-$3000.  We would buy the plan and then we could use Ed to take care of setting up contractors to do the work.  We are novices and we were unsure how that process would work out for us (buying the  plan and Ed setting up the subcontractors) so we decided on another firm.

I emailed Brian and he called me within a day or so.  Over the phone, I told him we were considering a major renovation at our house including adding a mudroom, powder room, wood floors, bumping out the dining room etc.  Verbally he told me reorganizing the interior space is easy but if I'm thinking of an addition that would add more costs.  He could measure my place and draw up plans ($1000) and if that included an addition the price could be $2000 or more.  We were novices and weren't sure if this procedure (buying plans and subcontracting) would work for us.  I appreciate the time Brian gave me but we ended up using a different company.

DESIGNfirst met or exceeded all of our expectations in every facet of the project.  Here is what my wife and I liked.
    1) First, a DESIGNfirst architect created what looked like a "three dimensional" color drawing of their design for our first floor.
    2) Once the design for our renovation was agreed upon and references were visited, only then was a contract signed.
    3) Then a personal portal for our project on the DESIGNfirst website was created for all communications.  All emails, contracts, architectural drawings, photographs, and the project plan were stored  and maintained within our personal, password protected portal.
    4) The project plan created for our renovation was completed on time per the plan.  DESIGNfirst never fell more than a day or two behind plan and in most cases was  ahead of plan... which more than amazed us.
    5) Payments were made prior to the start of each new phase of the project.  This made me feel very good about writing a check.  I knew before I ever put pen to checkbook that one phase of our project was completed and another phase was about to begin.
    6) Different skilled craftsmen were brought in for each phase of the project, e.g. design, demolition, framing, electrical, drywall, flooring, cabinetry, siding, roofing, painting.   I was amazed at how many different individuals worked on our home.
    7) Yet, what impressed me the most about the entire project was that a project manager was assigned to our project. That was not unique.   However, when I asked our project manager what his responsibilities were as our project manager his answer was unique. His response was one simple sentence... "To make your wife and you happy!" (note the order priority).. and that was exactly what he did throughout the project!
One last, but maybe the most important point to be made...   every DESIGNfirst craftsman treated our home like a residence and not like a new construction site. Plastic walls were put in place, with zippers, to catch the dust but not us. Floors were covered throughout the first floor.  And everyday the entire area, inside and out, was swept clean and tools and materials were stored so we could live our lives with minimal mess.

    Legacy Design & Construction Inc
Mike Pudlik of Legacy Design is a very professional, knowledgeable and detailed builder. Our sunroom addition and our remodeled bathrooms are absolutely beautiful. Mike has hand picked his crew and all were outstanding in their field.......from the architect to the carpenters, electrician, painter, plumber, wood floor installer, roofer, dry wallers, tile men and landscaper......all took pride in their work.Mike is very easy to work with. He was on the job making sure everything was going as I wanted it to and as he wanted it to. If I ever phoned him and he didn't answer he would always call me back asap. I always knew who would be on the job from start to finish. There was never a problem with communication. If there was a decision I couldn't make I would ask Mike for his opinion. He has been in the trades for over 30 years and he has the experience of what works and also has great designing ideas. My husband and I highly recommend Legacy Design for any of your remodeling needs or building additions. We are so pleased with the work that was done at our house.

Sean came up with original concept and had many great ideas.  Adam was great with cabinet counter and backsplash selection.  We picked out our flooring at an outside vendor and Adam was able to to acquire it for us.  My husband did a lot of homework on the tankless heater and gave some of the info to design first.  Damian did 90% of the construction was awesome.  Some people deserve A's some people deserve C's on the responsiveness category.
