Dermatology reviews in Des Plaines

    Gendleman, Dr. Mark D
When I arrived at the office I was taken to an exam room. Within a couple minutes Dr Gendleman and an intern entered the room. He asked me why I was there, and I mentioned an annual skin check. He seemed perplexed as to why I would want to see a dermatologist for this rather than my primary care physician.
    Specific things I brought up:
    1. 1. the actinic and seborrheic keratoses I've had
    2. 2. a seborrheic keratosis I currently have on my thigh
    3. skin tags I have that I wanted removed
    4. my rosacea
    His responses:
    1. He could see on my face where I'd had the actinic keratoses.
    2. After I dropped my pants (I was never asked to change into a gown), he confirmed that the seborrheic keratosis is indeed such on my thigh; he seemed surprised when I asked him to remove it. He took out a cotton swab and bottle of liquid nitrogen and dabbed the keratosis.
    3. He offered to cut off the skin tags I have; I would have preferred liquid nitrogen, but he never offered that as an alternative.
    4. He said he couldn't see any evidence of rosacea. He didn't ask if I was using any topical treatments for it, nor did he even come close enough to my face to notice the broken blood vessels on my chin and around my nose.
This was the most bizarre dermatology appointment I've had in 15 years. He told me there was no need for me to see him on an annual basis, and that I should just have my primary care physician handle annual skin checks.
Needless to say, I won't be going back to this medical office.
