  • They do a good job and cut it in accordance. Their price is fair and everybody there does a good job over there. I just kind a walk-in and whoever is available does the hair cut. Three different people have done my hair cut and all have done a good job. I am satisfied with them.

  • Was taken as soon as I walked in the door. She managed my difficult hair seeminly effortlessly. She is young, but she knows hair. It took about 45 minutes which is good for my hair. She gave me her card when I left. Very proffessional. $35.00 was the price for cut and style.

  • I liked that they reminded me of when I was a kid and my dad used to take me to the barbershop. It is just a straightforward barber shop. You sit down, have lots of reading material, and there is good conversation. It was a very pleasant experience.

  • Fantastic Sam's is convenient and cheap, but each time I take my kids there it is a disaster. Their haircuts are visibly crooked (i.e. one side of bangs is 1/2 inch shorter than other side). I've been there twice and have finally learned my lesson. This place would only be appropriate for getting a very short shave cut (assuming those can't be messed up).

  • The salon is upscale but I found it friendly. Kim R. did the haircut and the highlights. I was recovering from several bad cuts, so it was a challenging assignment. She took the time to speak with me at length about what I wanted, what worked on my hair, what I didn't like about past cuts, etc. The haircut was great, and she was careful going along to make sure it was meeting my needs/expectations. The highlights were also very nice. I was very impressed. Kim was also very friendly, which made this a great experience!

  • The owner is a wonderful and very personable lady and the salon is small but first class. She has a very unique method of cutting hair, which is to do it on dry hair, and not in the traditional manner (ie straight lines along the bottom, etc). She just kind of chops up at it. The highlights were nice but subtle - no complaints there. I had a problem with the haircut however. It looked nice when I left the salon and whenever I had time to "do" my hair. Otherwise it was very obvious that her unique cutting style results in very crooked cuts. I cut off some of the major uneven pieces at home, but had to finally go to another salon to get it somewhat even/straight on the bottom. I believe this stylist has many fans and her unique cutting method may work for them, but beware if you are not willing to do major styling work on your own each day to cover up the ragged cuts.

  • After waxing my eyebrows for years at an expensive place in Bucktown, I decided to try Wax On/Wax Off in the UIC neighborhood. Expecting to have them use the usual waxing procedure, which the name suggests, the technician told me to try the threading technique. Although the final result was good, and the price was much less, threading hurts a lot more than waxing. I liked the way that my eyebrows were shaped afterwards, but to avoid the pain, I will probably go back to the more expensive waxing.

  • They don't take appointments, but you can call ahead and "put your name on the list". I put that in quotes because it's really a crapshoot whether you get on any kind of list or not. And it's not really a list, they just write your name on a piece of paper and lose it. On the off chance that they happen to find the particular piece of paper with your name on it, it is highly unlikely to be in any kind of order. Oh, and they have no concept of time. If they say your wait is "about an hour", that means anywhere from fifteen minutes to three hours. No matter how long the wait is, they tell you "about an hour". So, to conclude: they don't take appointments, they are inconsistent with their "call-aheads", and they have no concept of time. Only go here if there's nowhere else open and you have all day to dedicate to a $15 haircut. But, to be fair, I do keep going back because it is cheap. And I don't very often get a bad haircut.

  • She did a fantastic job. My daughter went to her as well and she did a great job with her too.
