    Wall Landscape Services LLC
Tom and his crew installed a retaining wall last September and did a great job. We had him back this spring to do some more extensive work. Two huge concrete porches were removed from the front of the house and replaced with beautiful stone ones. An existing concrete walkway was removed and replaced with pavers to match the porches and wall.
In the rear of the house Tom installed an new patio and connecting walkway. In addition, to help with drainage problems in the back (there's a very steep slope) Tom installed an inground drainage pipe and river stone borders.
Tom and his crew arrived at 6.30-7.00am everyday and worked solidly until 5pm or later. Tom had estimated the work might take up to two weeks to complete but, with weather on our side, the job was completed in 5 days. Amazing!
Wall Landscaping also perform our routine garden maintenance. They are reliable and unlike others we've encountered, never try to charge for visits they never made.
Tom is polite, responsive and goes out of his way to help. His crews are always professional and do everything they can to minimise the inconvenience during construction.

    Roy Targia Masonry
We decided to have Roy Targia install our patio after reading the numerous recommends on Angie?s List. Unfortunately our experience has been far from favourable and we would like future clients to know what to expect from this tradesman.
    1. Roy does not offer a design service but our needs were fairly basic, a rectangular patio with steps and a walkway. Roy?s
original estimate was far from detailed so we had to exchange several emails to find our what was actually being provided. I sent Roy a diagram of what we wanted which included measurements and location of the patio in relation to the house. Roy provided a new estimate and the diagram was included with the signed contract from this point forward. On the first day of work it became clear that the patio was not going to be in the correct location, according to our diagram. When I challenged Roy, firstly he said he was putting the patio exactly where I wanted it but when we referred back to the diagram it was clear this was not the case. Roy then said we couldn?t have the patio in the position we requested because of the topography of our garden. If he?d put it there we
would need a retaining wall which would have increased the cost. At this point, with excavation already underway, we agreed a compromise and leave the patio where Roy ?said it should go?. However, later that same day it became apparent that we needed a retaining wall anyway which increased the cost by 25%. In short, Roy will build you a patio where he thinks it will go regardless of
    whether you agree the plans.
    2. Don?t expect transparent pricing. Our job almost doubled in price from start to finish. We readily acknowledge that some of the
price increase was due to extras we requested and the use of higher quality materials but when I queried some of the costings (we were charged twice for additional steps and extra square footage at the very least) Roy became very defensive and aggressive. With some persistence he eventually admitted we had been charged twice for extra square footage. I never received a detailed
breakdown of costs and still believe there were discrepancies.
    3. On first meeting Roy can best be described as a ?rough diamond?. Plain speaking and ?what you see is what you get?. However, he did not like being challenged over any aspect of the job even when it was clear the patio was not going to be where we wanted it, or that the prices for additional work (e.g. for a retaining wall we ended up having anyway!) seemed to be plucked out of thin air. On several occasions he became very verbally aggressive with me over the phone. After several heated exchanges I decided to
make sure I was never home alone if I knew he would be calling at the house. I cannot believe Roy thinks it?s acceptable to speak to clients in this way.
    4. At the start of the project I asked Roy what the payment schedule was and methods of payment. A 10% deposit was required up front, followed by a further payment once work began and the balance on completion of the project. We were told check or cash was acceptable although Roy repeatedly asked for cash payments. I told him we would be paying by check ? he was not
happy with this. In addition, Roy harassed me for the final payment (several emails and phone calls) even though the work had not been completed.
    5. During the construction of our patio there was significant damage to large areas of our garden and Roy provided minimal
reparation of this. In hindsight we wished we had an additional riverstone border adjacent to the patio so, despite our previous experiences with Roy, we contacted him to ask if he could provide the extra stone, we thought his might be easiest given that he could match the product and presumably get it quickly. Roy agreed that he could provide the additional stone but on condition that we provided a favourable review on Angie?s List! We have subsequently gone with a new contractor and unfortunately Roy has failed to get the review he requested.
We cannot understand why our experience with Roy contrasts so dramatically with others on Angie?s List. The one thing we can say in favour of Roy Targia masons is that the quality of the workmanship that went into our patio was very good ? it?s just it?s not where we wanted it, it cost significantly more than originally quoted and all dealings with Roy were very stressful.  Given Roy?s aggression towards me, I was somewhat reluctant to post this review, perhaps others who have experienced this first hand have been less willing to make their thoughts known, hence the bias towards positive reviews that appear here.
