Bubba does a great job maintaining my Honda Element with almost 200,000 miles on it. He is trustworthy and charges a fair price. He also communicates clearly so there is never a surprise. He has also worked on my Alumnitrailer and corrected problems and found others I had missed, which he fixed at nominal cost. I love Bubba's garage!

I had a unbelievably awful experience there! Most unprofessional and ridiculous customer service I have ever received from a business. The owner was rude and shouted profanities at me because I walked outside the building to find someone that worked there. After screaming at me, he told me he assumed I was there to steal my vehicle (that had been towed there after a wreck). I explained that I was there to give them permission to tow it to a body shop, and that I didn't appreciate being treated like that. He told me to "shut up" and "get the h*** off his property." After sharing this experience with friends, I've discovered that this is pretty typical behavior and that they are notorious for over-charging people. I will never do business with them again.

I arrived first thing in the morning, and he was upfront about how long it would take. They offered me coffee and my son and I a ride to anywhere in town. We waited patiently and they called us when out was ready. They offered to change my wiper blades and my air filter. We said no thank you. Later that week, they texted me to say thank you for my business.

I have used Johnson Automotive for at least 30 years or more, back when his father started the business. His son, David, now owns and runs the business. Good service and a clean shop. He has maintained my truck and car for almost everything. I will use him several times a year. (I use Wal-Mart for tires, lifetime rotation and balance, and oil changes, because when we travel I want tire service, if necessary.) All the big stuff, engine work, transmissions, drive train, electrical, AC/Heating, etc, etc, I use Johnson. It is expensive, but all auto service is expensive. David does good work and stands behind his work.
Charleston, IL is a college town and he does a lot of out of town work for visitors, students and their parents. Whenever I have been in his shop and he is dealing with out of town customers, it does not appear that he is unfair in any way. He always explains what the problem is, cost to repair, and any other options, before doing any work. Very good communications with customers.
His shop is located on the corner, south side of Madison Street (IL route 316) and on the east side of 8th street. Just a couple blocks north-east of the old business district and court house.
Those from out of town, the GPS decimal coordinates are Latitude 39.4962 and Longitude -88.1736.
Comfortable waiting area and good free coffee.

Since the day my wife bought the 2008 Chevy HHR from Pilson's they have always and without fail treated us with great professionalism and kindness. Being basically broke folks who just barely get by from one check to the next and not big spenders it is so appreciated when a business goes out of their way to give you help.
We were on the way to take her to Eastern for a final and noticed our headlights were not working. It would be dark in an hour or so! Dropped her off at Eastern and went to Pilson's hoping it could be taken into the shop and we could maybe get a loaner so I could go back and pick her up. Was prepared to just take the car to Walmart and wait for her to come out of the test, find me not there and figure out to take the bus to Walmart. No cell phone ya see? Thinking at least she can get to Walmart and we will hope and pray on the way to our home in the country that we don't hit anything in the dark. Then take the car back to the shop the next day when the sun was out.
But, the Pilson crew got the car in and assessed and an estimate ready before the sun went down, not to mention pulling a loaner out of a hat and sending me off safe and sound in just the right timing to pick her up having just finished the final!

Oil Change price is excellent compared to most other places in the area.  Not sure about quality of oil but from what I know, oil is about the same unless you get premium or synthetic.  It's fine for my Lexus.  Brake flush was average price.

Service was good.  Not sure what kind of bulk oil they use.  Prices are a bit steep without a coupon, but I had a coupon!  Everyone is very friendly and professional.  Overall, I feel it's worth it to pay a bit more to help keep a quality small business in our town.  I definitely recommend.

They do a great job. The way the handled the situation with my pickup was great. I don't mind paying for quality service and I can trust them. They are all certified mechanics and do a very good job. I have bought tires from them and just everything that I need done with my vehicle I can take to them. I usually start with them.

Excellent.  I was back to (12-20-12) to have a problem with my heater core checked out.  Similar to before, I had had two thermostats changed at a dealership which did not rectify the problem of lukewarm heat.  I had told them that the temperature of the air coming out of the vents was only 82 degrees, far below what it should have been.  Their response was to change the thermostat.  Rob Myerscough's reaction was to grab his hand held sensor and trace the problem to the heater core; took about 4 minutes. I drove home with more heat than I've felt in two years plus.  Cost; $129 (which also included an oil change)
