The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
It's all about customer service! It is so refreshing working with the company that puts the customer first, we absolutely love the service we received. Knowledgeable, professional and the deep understanding of their work. White glove service all the way to the front door.

    GCM Construction Professional Basement Remodeling
Guy was the best contractor we ever dealt with. He was also punctual, and we were never blindsided about inevitable delays when happening with working with this number of sub-contractors. He was clean, professional, and always checked in nearly every morning and evening. He addressed all concerns in a timely manner, and we were beyond happy with the finished product. We would use Guy again in a heartbeat.

Steve is very punctual and very honest. He gave us a very fair price and did not hesitate when I asked for references, which is a indication they were not coached. His references raved about Steve and the work his company performed. Now that I have first hand experience with his company, I can happily say that anyone looking for work in their home, basement or otherwise, should call Steve first and not waste time with anyone else. I wish every product was as good, or service performed as well as Steve and The Basement Men delivered to us.

The work crew were very nice, cleaned up at the end of each date showed me what had been done. Steve stopped by often to check on the progress and also with flooring and bathroom samples I could pick from. I cannot say enough about the beautiful work and the very competent and nice crew. The downstairs looks wonderful.

    GR General Contracting
GR General Contracting did a fabulous job on our basement. It took us years to save up enough to do a full basement rehab, and we got at least a dozen quotes from various contractors. Most had quotes higher than our budget or we did not feel comfortable with the company. Gordon was the first to provide a reasonable quote as well as give a professional and competent first impression. We found Gordon to be very flexible and accommodating to any changes that needed to be made. We had a number of unexpected challenges on the project (like almost all major construction projects do), but Gordon was there at every turn to discuss our options and help us decide the best route to take. After demolition and at the beginning of actual construction, he was there frequently to walk through with us to discuss the exact specifications of what we wanted. He listened to our requests and offered suggestions that helped us come up with a plan that is nothing short of amazing. His crew was always courteous, professional and top notch. They worked really hard to keep the project from affecting the rest of our house and our life. Any time they knew they would have to shut off the water or electricity, or knew they would be making excessive noise, they let us know ahead of time. They always attempted to keep the project contained, even though there is no way to really keep the construction dust from getting into the rest of the house! We especially loved Caesar and Alfonso! I was so sad to see them go at the end of the project and found myself trying to come up with other things we needed to have done so I could keep them around. No construction project is ever perfect. Most of our problems revolved around the length of time it took to complete the project. This is mostly due to our Village dragging its feet on the permit and inspection process. This set back the start of the project, which in turn screwed with Gordon's scheduling of his workers across his various projects. While our remodel ended up taking almost twice as long as originally planned, we were not in a rush and understood that the permit/inspection process put Gordon in a difficult position. We kept an open dialogue with Gordon and it all worked out. If we would have forced the issue, he could have sent more workers over, but he has different guys that specialize in different aspects of construction. He wanted to make sure he was putting the right person on the job. By giving him the flexibility and time, he in turn made sure we got the best people for the job. He really knows what he is doing, and if you step back and trust him to do the job, you will not be disappointed. His electrician and plumber really knew their stuff. One of the best aspects of the project was the constant communication. His crew was easy to talk to and didn't mind our questions and requests. If there was something we wanted changed or saw a problem with, Gordon was immediately on the phone or would stop by to discuss the situation. We threw a number of changes and increased the scope of work several times, and they always accommodated us. The finished product was everything we hoped it would be. Gordon can do anything from providing full service to allowing us do some of the leg work to cut down on cost. For instance, he could have provided the flooring, cabinets, etc, but we chose to source them ourselves and he took care of installing what we chose. His guys even picked the flooring up from Home Depot for us! In fact, the guys went out of their way to not only do the job right, but to provide little extras here and there. For instance, towards the end of the project, we purchased shelving we were going to install in the closet. The crew ended up just doing it for us. I was having issues with a gas leak on the grill, and the plumber took a few minutes to diagnose the problem for me. Our only big complaint is with some of the small finishing details. To be honest, the painting could have been better. When looking at the overall basement, it is fine, but upon close inspection, there are small things like nail holes visible in the trim, areas of the walls that are not evenly patched/painted, and sloppy trim painting. The lines where the wall meets the ceiling are not crisp. To be fair, if I look around the rest of my house, I see some of the same problems. Really, I think my minor disappointment lies with the fact that the other guys (carpentry, electric, plumbing, etc.) went out of their way and bent over backwards to make sure everything was perfect. They would even redo something if they were not happy with the work, even if we did not notice a problem. So, in the grand scheme of things, some minor painting problems are not a big deal. As we save up for future projects (bathroom remodel, kitchen remodel, etc.), I know without a doubt that we will hire GR General Contracting to do the job.

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
Basement looks beautiful, quality is great, workmanship very good.  Steve Lauer, owner, is very nice and easy to work with.  He was always available.  Our only issue was with the lead workman, who did good work, but was unpleasant and quite difficult at times.  We were not expecting that.  Steve has various teams, just make sure you have one that works well for you.

The Basement Men & The Concrete Man
Steve was very great to work, he replied almost immediately to any email or text request and delivered our gorgeous basement before the agreed upon date. All of the staff were very professional, dependable, and had helpful ideas as we went along throughout the project. We are so happy that we chose the basement men to do our work and will be calling Steve to redo our kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and other outside work that will be done to the house in years to come. Thank you for making our basement so great that we do not want to go upstairs anymore!

    GCM Construction Professional Basement Remodeling
Guy was super-professional, thorough, responsive, and detailed.  He knew his stuff, and the company could not have been better.  He even suggested a super-cool fort area for our young kids under the steps that they would have LOVED!  Top-tier  across the way. Unfortunately, that quality comes with a price and they were simply out of our price league (by a factor of 3).
But make sure to check out their portfolio on their website.  Their basement examples will make you drool!  One of these years... :-)

    Inter Home Remodeling
Inter Home Remodeling has a very impressive portfolio on their website of great work they have done.  Plus, the solid Angie's List reviews they'd received were encouraging, so I reached out to Robert to quote on redoing our basement and a section of our kitchen. He was exceptionally nice, but I did have some communication problems in the beginning.  He was quick to come out and schedule a time to look at our projects, but then I had to follow up multiple times via Angie's List messaging, texts, and phone calls to get him to deliver his bid.
He apologized and said his phone had been acting up, and that he would get it to me right away (so all was forgiven).  He eventually sent it to me, but his quote was very vague and didn't have nearly the level of specificity I was hoping for (like if materials were included, if so, how many lights, doors, what type, etc.).  It was SUCH a low bid (literally half the cost of the next lowest estimate and 1/5 that of the most expensive), that I almost wound up not trusting that everything we needed was included.  I had to follow up again with a series of emails to try and get him pinned down on more specifics and how much they would cost.  This time, he was pretty responsive (and always, unfailingly nice), and asked to come out again to look at the job with his builder (I think it was his dad) to get a better sense of what the job would actually entail.  I felt like I was pestering him into giving me a more expensive quote, but I wanted to make sure I had a fair comparison with all of the other contractors I'd had come through.  Again, super-duper nice, but his quote went up by $2k when they closely examined all the things that needed to be fixed, and his quote was labor only.  After asking twice for a total, all-in quote so I could compare with the others, I eventually got it and it wound up being the same as the other lowest-contractor's bid (and twice what the original quote was now that I had asked for specifics).
We ultimately decided to go with another contractor not because of quality of work (they would have done a great job), or any kind of attitude (Robert couldn't have been nicer), or even the price...  Ultimately, it came down to communication.  I am impatient and details-focused, and I felt like I would have to chase them down for everything throughout the project if we chose them.  I had been very specific in what I had needed quoted, and each time the quote came back vague and unsubstantiated. I had to pester, follow up, and ask questions constantly to ultimately get to where I wanted the quote to be, and I just feared this is how the project process would go.
So if you are not as Type-A as I am, Inter Home Remodeling would for sure do a terrific job on your remodeling.  They were nice, courteous, inexpensive, and knowledgeable at every turn.  But if you like every "i" dotted and every "t" crossed in every interaction from the start, you might wind up frustrated as I had been.  In the end, they got me just what I wanted, though, and I really appreciated their patience with me :-)

    Mordini General Contracting
Tom was the consummate professional, and I was very impressed with him from beginning to end.  He quoted on one large project and one smaller project, and I was blown away at how responsive, nice, knowledgeable, and terrific he was.  Ultimately, we would up selecting another contractor for the work, but it was based solely on price.  Tom had quoted a very fair, reasonable price, but we just didn't have enough in our piggy bank to afford his handiwork.
From the beginning, Tom was responsive and courteous and provided quick replies to all of my many questions and follow-up questions (and there were many!).  His professionalism and knowledge were both much appreciated, and I really, really hope I get to work with him in the future on another project.
He was one contractor I was sad to not have the opportunity to work with.  Hopefully one day :-)
