I visit twice a year for scans, having fair skin and a family history of skin cancer.  This office is the most efficient, pleasant, friendly medical office I have experienced in the north suburban area.  They are very punctual - I always see a professional within 10 minutes of my appointment time.  When I need to change an appointment time, this is done efficiently and painlessly.  When I've needed additional work it's always thoroughly and thoughtfully explained.  Dr Seema Sheth performed one Mohs procedure and she was excellent.  I am very pleased to have found this practice.

    Bangash, Dr. Suleman
Mohs is a special procedure that one needs when one has skin cancer, and he was fabulous. He is worth the drive, he is extremely conscientious, gentle, and he knows what he is doing. With the Mohs procedure, they cut it, and then they immediately go right into another room, where they have their technology lab, they check it, and see where the cancer is, they come in and make the next cut. They keep doing this procedure back and forth, until you are completely cancer free, and that way they are not completely intrusive. This gentleman was just fabulous. I highly recommend him to anyone. I need to go back every year for a check, and I totally trust going back to them. His staff was wonderful. They were helpful, everyone could answer questions, they were very forthcoming as to what the surgery would entail, and I knew ahead of time what my follow up treatments would be. It was wonderful. That is the kind of doctor that you need. They sit and talk with you, you ask about all the alternatives, and they will give you all the information. The procedure that I had took 9 hours in total. By the time surgery was done, he knew I was cancer free in that area. He did another follow up just to make sure nothing was popping up.

    American Laser Skincare
I called for an appointment, and they offered me a discount if I went in for a free consultation that day and decided to purchase a laser hair removal package. Luckily, I had the day off of work, so I went in that afternoon. I had a list of questions since I'd been researching hair removal for several questions. The woman who did my consultation was very happy to answer all of my questions. (Yes, they are all properly licensed and trained.) I ended up purchasing an upper lip and chin package for about $600. (That includes my discounts for coming in that day and a discount for purchasing two treatments together.)
We scheduled an appointment for the next day to get my "test run" complete. Basically, they just want to make sure you're not going to have any negative reaction. However, when I went in the next day, the nurse practitioner who performed the test run said we could just do all of my first treatment if I wanted because she didn't think I'd have any negative reaction. Apparently, I'm the ideal candidate for laser hair removal. I'm Italian so I have thick, dark, coarse hair, but my skin is only a light olive complexion so there's a good contrast between my hair color and my skin color.
The treatment was over in about five minutes. Before I had laser hair removal, I'd asked a coworker what it felt like. She described it as a rubber band snapping against your skin, but that was in the early days of laser hair removal. My experience was that it felt like a light snap (maybe like someone flicking a finger against your skin), but the feeling went away within a couple seconds.
I just had my third treatment, so let's talk about results so far. My experience with the first two treatments was that the first ten days of treatment, I had to shave every day to minimize the stubble on my chin and upper lip. After about ten days, the hair started to fall out. For the next 10-14 days, I didn't have to do as much shaving. However, much of it started to grow back as I neared my next appointment. I'm only a few days after treatment #3 so I'm doing daily shaving at the moment, but I've heard this third treatment on the upper lip and chin is where things really start to improve. I'm hoping so.
I did see enough improvement (albeit temporary) after the second treatment that I decided to go ahead and purchase the legs and bikini package. (After researching a few other facilities, it seemed American Laser had the best prices. I'm paying $1710 for the legs--that's 70% off their "regular" price--and they threw in the bikini for free. Another place was going to charge about the same for legs, but they wouldn't throw in the bikini for free.) I've been told I'll see results faster on the legs than the upper lip and chin, which are typically very stubborn areas. In fact, the woman who runs the Highland Park clinic even threw in a seventh treatment for my upper lip and chin free for me because she said I'll probably need it.
I'm very happy with the staff over at Highland Park, but if you look at my scoring, you'll noticed I gave it a D for billing. This is nothing against the Highland Park staff. This is a corporate issue with American Laser. Be aware that if you decide to pay with their 0% financing, they are running a bit of a scam. Although I paid for the lip and chin in full up front, I decided to take advantage of their 0% financing for the legs and bikini. It's 0%, so why not, right?
When the bill came, I noticed that it did not list the $142.50 per month for twelve months. Instead, it listed a "minimum" payment of $69 and then a terrible APR of twenty-something percent. When I called the number on the bill to ask about it, the guy on the phone gave me a baloney story about how they need to put a minimum payment, and they found that when they put the minimum payment plus the amount people need to pay in order to avoid finance charges, the customers "got confused." Uh . . . no! What's confusing is why they don't put the actual payment amount on there! Obviously, they are trying to trick people into paying interest. So be forewarned! Either don't use their financing or make sure you know exactly how much to pay.
When I brought this up at the Highland Park office, they were very nice about it and did give me a sheet with my payment amount in writing.

    Haugen, Dr. Reshma
I really like Dr. Haugen and highly recommend her. She is very caring, communicates very well and takes the time to educate the patient. It is pretty hard to get an appointment with her but I think that may be fairly typical for a dermatologist.

    Altman, Dr. Jeffrey S.
He is absolutely fabulous. He tells me like it is. He saved a life of a dear friend of ours. He is thorough. His staff is great. I can't say enough about him. I wouldn't let anybody else touch me. He is not an unapproachable doctor but some doctors I just can't talk to. I am having surgery with him on the 28th.

    Glazer Dermatology
I came into the office and the staff was having a good laugh over something. I like a happy staff. The doctor was punctual which is a huge plus. I went in for an overal review of skin issues and tag removal. I found him friendly and willing to listen. I came prepared with a list of issues which helps with all doctor's visits. He did the initial exam and found nothing out of the ordinary. He was willing to remove non threatening bumps/moles if I felt I needed to, but he wasn't recommending it as it was just cosmetic.
The tag removal was done by a young female technician. She was quick and professional.
I had put off this visit for years as I had a prior bad experience. I would definately recommend this doctor.

    Altman, Dr. Jeffrey S.
Dr. Altman is the very best. He has caught 3 skin cancers of mine. I go to see him once a year. He is efficient and he is a great diagnostician. He is very compassionate, has an excellent team, terrific bedside manner, and I can't say enough about him. He has a long waiting list if you are a new patient, but there are other doctors in his office that are easier to get into see. He always takes his time with each patient, he never rushes. The staff is wonderful. He is a vital part of my health care.

    Center for Advanced Breast Care
I saw Dr. Michael Kinney within the practice. He was prepared and had already reviewed the x-rays and reports forwarded to him by the hospital. Both he and the initial nurse had a fabulous bedside manner and made me feel immediately comfortable. Dr. Kinney thoroughly explained his diagnosis and his recommendations - and also provided me with documentation. I've been to many doctors and Dr. Kinney had the most impressive bedside manner I have ever experienced.
I would highly recommend this practice - specifically Dr. Michael Kinney.

    Altman Dermatology Associates
Terrific! I was treated in 2009 by having a melanoma removed and have seen him regularly since. The Altman Group is very efficient and yet run a practice which seems both intimate and personal. I've always had a good experience with Altman and his staff.
