Concrete Driveways reviews in Idaho Falls

    J & J Construction
Great! The concrete work is so much better than the original work. J&J Construction did the work right and the quality was excellent. The people are hard workers and very nice. My husband mention in passing that we were having some issues with the front gutter, which the owner provided a suggestion to solve the issues. We liked it and he was able to do the additional work just prior to the pouring the concrete, since the drain pipe needed to go under the sidewalk that was being replaced. He is a problem solver. I would have no problems using the company to do other work. In fact he will be doing the driveway replacement for my mother.

    Custom Concrete Resurfacing

Removal of the section of the back patio to be replaced required saw cutting of the concrete and providing temporary support of the patio roof above the supports where the concrete was to be replaced. The work crew and I discussed the saw cutting prior to the work, and accomplished it as I desired. The temporary support of the patio roof was accomplished with minimal impact on the existing patio roof supportstructure. Breaking up of the existing concrete to be replaced was accomplished using a jackhammer and sledge hammers. The crew was able to provide the existing patio dimensions even though access was somewhat difficult due to the bushes that had grown up since the original patio placement. A crushed rock base was placed prior to the concrete placement. A motorized concrete "hauler" was used to transport the concrete from the delivery truck to the back patio. That worked effectively even though some awkward maneuvering of the hauler was required. An additional 8 to 10 inches of concrete was placed beneath thespots where the patio roof supports were to be reinstalled.

The existing driveway concrete was broken up for removal mostly by jackhammer, but with some sledge hammer use. The new driveway was formed to the same dimensions as the original, and with minimal impact on the existing lawn and sprinkler systems. I was easily able to replace removed sod and sprinklers. A crushed rock base was placed prior to concrete placement. The new concrete was placed in 3 segments--the driveway left side, the driveway right side and the sidewalk/street approach. The work crew was knowledgeable in the special requirements of the city of Idaho Falls for the sidewalk and street approach. There were no difficulties with the inspection required.

The contractor was thorough in removal and disposal of all construction debris. The final concrete surface finish has a slight repetitive "swirl" that we consider attractive. The work crew was onsite and working every day and were punctual. I did provide access to a bathroom in our basement for their use. They were careful in their use. The construction time for back patio and driveway was about 2 weeks. Communication with the contractor and the work crew was cordial and useful.

Drive by and inspect our new driveway.

The new porch was poured in one day and is beautiful! The same with the driveway. I have never seen people work so hard and with such proficiency to produce exactly what we wanted. We will be coming back with more work!

Mike and his crew did an excellant job.  Real professesionals and an extremely nice guy something that is rare in construction.  All the neighbors were really impressed with the work also.

The whole transaction was great. Mike was very responsive, easy to reach, showed up when he said he would, and was fair in his prices. He really knew his stuff and took the time to explain it all to me during the estimate, even offering to come back later in the evening to meet with my husband if he had questions. Only time will tell if the work holds up, of course, but as of now I am very happy with Carlson's Custom Concrete and would definitely recommend them.

    J & J Construction
We initially contacted Jerry Stuart of J & J Construction for help with removal of our 3 tree stumps.  In getting an estimate for that we found out the he did many other types of work.  We asked him for an estimate for replacing our patio door (form the house), fixing our cracking patio and an RV pad.  In walking around, Jerry pointed out that our roof line was sagging due to an improperly installed post and discussed with us what we could do to fix it.
Needless to say our initial bid for removal of tree stumps soon blossomed into a full blown project.  Jerry was very good about discussing our options and very flexible in accommodating our needs.  Together we came up with a plan and work began the next day!!  Work began on October 20, 2012 and despite weather delays and additional work we added, we were completed by November 13, 2012.
Jerry and his team are extremely hard workers and have an incredible attention to detail.   The work that they completed for us is even better than I could have imagined.  It was fun working with them in coming up with ideas on some of the finish work.
I really appreciate have a crew that is on time, works a full day and works on Saturdays to get things done.  And did I mention their work is awesome!!

Mike Carlson, the owner, provided good suggestions and laid out in detail how the job would be done. His crew was punctual and professional. They make sure the job is done correctly without shorcuts. I have full confidence that the concrete work they performed will hold up. The used iron where needed for support, especially where tying in to an adjacent foundation wall was required. I have built several homes over the past 20 years and have never been satisfied with the concrete contractors, until now! I highly recommend Carlson Custom Concrete.

    Chamberlain Concrete Inc
Their first job was to pour the basement slab in my new home.   First, I live in an area that is known to have high levels of radon gas, so I put down a 6 mil plastic vapor barrier on top of the base course of gravel.  Chamberlain Concrete then added rebar, tied it together and supported it with rebar chairs  (supports).  The rebar chairs were inappropriate for the application and had narrow feet, that when the crew stepped on them, punctured holes in the vapor barrier, everywhere.  (There are rebar chairs available locally that clamp on the rebar and have about a 2" round disc that supports it on the ground. ) I then came in behind them, myself, and repaired all of the MANY holes in the vapor barrier with Duct tape.
On the day of the pour, I asked the crew to not step on the rebar, as it caused the rebar chairs to puncture holes in the vapor barrier.  They acknowledged my request and proceeded to step on every single piece of rebar they came across.  Not only pushing the rebar to the bottom of the slab, but also puncturing holes in the vapor barrier.  Awesome.  On the first test, my radon level was 200  times the EPA recommended level.  Now that's professionalism.
About 6 weeks later, it was time to pour the floor of my garage.  They were scheduled to pour on a Wednesday, and I traveled into town on Tuesday night to be present for the pour.  When I landed and turned on my phone, I got a voice mail saying they had to cancel and reschedule for Friday.   I was unable to stay for Friday as I had to be at work, 300 miles away.
The description I then got of the day of the pour came from my framing contractor.  He relayed that all of the concrete was delivered at once, for what is a 2,000 sq ft garage floor.  (4 car garage + a mud room).  Some of the concrete sat for a couple hours in a heap while they worked concrete in other areas of the garage.  When it was all done, I had large cracks and heaving fault lines in one stall and the mud room.  Absolutely horrible.
I was sucker enough to allow them back to complete my driveway and sidewalks a couple months later.  Fortunately for me they stood me up twice more and I never called them back.  I had another concrete contractor finish the job, who did excellent work.  That gave me even more remorse for not using them in the first place.
Avoid Chamberlain Concrete and Jensen Concrete and Construction if at all possible.

Looks 100% better than the pitted mess it was before. Added decorative edge if that is really sharp.
