    Idaho Veterinary Hospital
The vet techs and the vet, Dr Cavender, were clearly happy to see us and our parrot.  They inquired about her recovery from some problems she had over the holidays and made observations on her improvement.  In order to "towel" her they briefly turned off the lights to darken the room to make it less traumatic for the bird.  With my bird, being toweled is not a problem.  But for many birds it is so this courtesy for the stress of the animal really impressed me.  They were very conscientious about making sure my bird's grooming was to my satisfaction.  I was right there in the room with them..  They wanted to know how I specifically wanted her wings trimmed and showed me as they were going along.  When they trimmed her nails they had me take her on my hand to make sure the nails were done to my satisfaction.

I have had multiple experiences with Idaho Veterinary Hospital now, including boarding,  and have been very satisfied every time.

This was sort of an interview on my part. The avian vet I had used for more than 6 years left the practice. I wanted to see how me, my bird and the vet/office staff at a new place fit together. They were extremely nice. But when I requested they clip her wings, I didn't specify exactly how I wanted them clipped. Consequently, the wings were clipped more extreme than I wanted. I didn't want her to be able to gain altitude because we have ceiling fans and it is too dangerous for her. But I also wanted her to be able to flutter to the floor if she was startled and fluttered off her playstand. The way her wings were clipped she dropped like a rock which surprised both of us the first time it happened after we got home. Probably if I had been more explicit about just what I wanted, they would have done it differently. My previous avian vet had always done it the way I wanted it, so it never occurred to me to be specific. Mika reacted stressfully to the way they held her. I suggested she was accustomed to being toweled but they felt it was unnecessary. I had also planned to have her beak trimmed but she was so stressed from having her wings clipped I decided not to. Also, they didn't have a boarding facility which I need from time to time and I feel more comfortable boarding her at her own vet when necessary. I was able to find a different avian vet that was a better "fit" for me and my bird, but I would feel ok with Habitat Veterinary Health if I needed to go back there.
