    The Chimney Doctor
Working with the Chimney Doctor was an excellent experience from beginning to end. They were prompt, efficient, and meticulous in their work and clean-up. Todd was extremely responsive in all communications. He even went the extra step of videoing the work done when I was out of town, to be sure I understood what had been accomplished and how the final product looked. I would definitely use his services again.

    Top Of The Stack
The work was spread out over several days due to weather interruptions, but I appreciated they didn't push to finish anything unless the temperature/weather was ideal to do the job properly. They even came back immediately to tarp their newly finished work when a sudden rainburst came through. My only complaints would be that I was surprised they didn't recommend the caps until I asked about them, (which I was only lucky someone else had mentioned to me), and with small kids at home I wasn't always sure exactly when they'd show up and worried about disrupting nap times. They were very polite, left things tidy each time they came, and gave us a bid almost 5X less than one of the bigger outfits doing chimneys in town. Nick was also timely about returning my calls, which is more than I can say for a couple others I reached out to.

    Kleensweep Chimney and Masonry
Anthony repaired my bricks, but took my money and chimney flue insert and never returned to finish the job. He stood me up 5 times during scheduled appointments, and refuses to answer any communication this last week when I ask him to finish the job. He has so many excuses, demands money before getting parts, then keeps the money and doesn't install the part. Now my chimney has less parts than when I started, because he has my property or has sold it to someone else. I do not trust him, and am so disappointed I gave him a chance.

Western Heating & Air Conditioning Inc
Brian McKinney and Dusty (?) were so nice, explaining my problem and they took time and effort to come up with a very creative solution to my complex problem. I trusted them to do a professional job and they came through with flying colors. I was so happy I hired Western Heating and Cooling for this job, and will continue to use this company for future HVAC services at home.

    A Fireman's Chimney Sweep
This is the 3rd time we have used them.  The are professional, timely and honest.  Normally, it costs $130 for this service but because we had this done several years ago and the renters (that moved out) hadn't used the fireplace much, the chimney was pretty clean so we were only charged $105.00.  We will definitely use them again!

    Master Sweep
The cleaning went well and the technician pointed out that our chimney cap was in good condition and had been replaced some time before we'd bought the house, and that it was an expensive chimney cap. He also showed us that the back fire wall was cracked and should be replaced, so we scheduled that and they came out another day to finish that.
When our house was inspected for sale and the buyers wanted extra cash for the chimney cap, we were able to confidently tell them the chimney cap was in good shape and we weren't going to do any concessions for that. If we hadn't had the inspection and cleaning, we might have ended up paying for something that wasn't needed, so in my opinion they saved us money.

Max was very professional in our interactions.  He spent about an hour on the roof pounding and sealing around loose nails, sealing around pipe collars etc.  He did some minor shingle repair where there was some wind damage.  Note: I had to provide my own shingles for this portion of the repair.  I have not personally inspected the work that was done so I put N/A for the quality but feel he probably did a good job.  Max did offer some additional work he could do as a separate purchase, but there was no pressure and I appreciated his suggestions.

Max was great - showed up on time (it's rare that people show up all), offered to take his shoes off, explained exactly what he'd be doing, listened to our concerns about the roof, spent a good bit of time up top, sealed up a vent around a chimney in question, came back down, and gave his summary and recommendations. I would recommend Max to anyone and we will use him again for other jobs.

    Safer chimney llc
This was by far the worst experience I have been through with a contractor. The following points summarize my experience:
    1. Shawn (the contractor from SaferChimney) rebuilt the chimney crown knowing that a strorm was due that evening (I informed him in the morning). The worked failed at 11:00 P.M. causing numerous pieces to hit the roof. I should note that Shawn did not think the work required a cover to protect it from the storm. Shawn and his son tried to correct the chimney damage the following morning. They did not protect the roof from concrete dust and they did not adequately clean the roof.  Several weeks later, I noticed that concrete had adheared to the asphalt shingles, discoloring a large section of the roof. There is no effective way to clean concrete off asphalt shigles.
    2. Shawn replaced my dryer vent after completing the chimney work. I inspected the vent after he left and discovered that the installation was wrong; the pipes were facing the wrong direction, screws were used to join the pipes, poor connection to the outside exhaust, and excessive bending (four 90 degree bends) in the flexible pipe section. The city of Boise informed me that dryer duct replacement requires a permit and that SaferChimney does not have the appropriate license to perform the work. A city inspector came to look at the vent and said it is not to code; in addition, he said that SaferChimney could not correct the work without a license.
    3. Forms still need to be removed from the chimney. On two separate occassions, I scheduled time with Shawn to have the forms removed. Each time I left work 2 hours early to meet him. He did not show up on either occassion. I should note that on one occassion the appointment was confirmed 4 hours previously.
    4. On multiple occassions Shawn has appeared dishonest. For example, he stated that he has installed numerous dryer vents, however, the vent he installed in my house was not to code and violated the installation instructions for the Whirlpool dryer that is in the room. In addition, it has been difficult to determine who owns SaferChimney and get resolution to the stated problems.

    Madison Roofing Inc
I phoned this company to find out about possible chimney repair because I've successfully used their services for roofing in the past and was very happy with the experience. I was told on the phone that they do not do masonry repairs (repairs on the bricks of the chimney) but could provide metal enclosures to prevent further degradation of the bricks and mortar. My experience with them is that they are experienced, professional and friendly. However, if you're looking for someone to actually repair the bricks of your chimney itself, then they do not, at least now, provide that service.
