Initially, we were very impressed.  The guy that came over to bid the job was helpful and knowledgable.  He seemed confident in their ability to get everything done to match the rest of the home.  Unfortunately, he forgot about our bid, so we had to call and remind him.  The quote came in at $800 for the framing (including lumbar), which seemed reasonable.  There was some lack of communication though, because the guys they sent out to do the job weren't really aware of anything, and we had to explain it all again.  They also were unaware that we needed the duct work framed in, so that added the extra $200 into the quote.  It took them a week and a half to do it.  We never knew when they were going to show up, and they were generally poorly prepared when they did (not enough supplies, etc).  There were days that they only showed up for an hour or two.  It was so frustrating to have them tell us it would only take a day or two and have it extend into almost two weeks.  Or tell us that they would be over at 7:30 and not show up until 10:00.
The work itself was tolerable.  The foreman kept criticizing what the framers had done, almost as if the guys framing our home didn't know what they were doing.  That didn't inspire confidence.  We had to remind them to do a few things that should have been obvious to someone who had done that type of work before.
Overall, it's done, and the walls are straight, with appropriate space created for doors.  For such a simple job, it seemed unbelievably difficult for them to get it done correctly or quickly.  I'm glad that we had this trial run with the framing before we contracted over the whole thing.  We won't be using them again.

Steve was prompt arriving to the job and with the work. He has done various jobs for me in the past and I would recommend him for any job. I have since moved out of state and am now needing a handyman at my house. I hope I find someone as honest, efficient, and friendly as Steve.

    Handyman Inc.
This was a nightmare.  The least professional crew I've every seen.  They borrowed equipment from me since they were unprepared.  One of the items that they borrowed was a nice folding 4 step step ladder, when they abandoned the job (yes, more later) they left it covered with paint and sheetrock mud.  Interior painting was sloppy with very poor "cutting" at edges, the prior color shows through in blotches on the walls.  The trim painting in our bathroom was not properly prepared so that days after painting when it was bumped (like with the toe of a shoe) it peeled off.  When preparing the outside trim, the crew evidently tired of removing the silicone caulk, so they simply painted over it silicone lumps and all.  During the quarter round replacement, they broke a window.  We complained about all of these problems to Mark Pitman (who was at the work site for a total of about 10 minutes over the entire course of the disaster), and were assured "Oh, that's terrible we'll fix that"-- "Oh, that's no problem I've got a glass guy that will fix that"-- Blah, blah, blah.
But as bad at all that was it is not as bad as the sheetrock job on the basement ceiling.  It was terrible, and amateurish. Every tape line shows, the sheetrock was not properly attached and within just a few days, nails were beginning to pop.  The room was a mess with sheetrock mud and paint splashed on the walls and the brick fireplace face.  After Mark Pitman's people abandoned (yes) the job we had three competent sheetrockers look at the job and two of them said tear it out and redo it.  The third had some suggestions for not tearing it out, but redoing parts and tuning it up but at a cost.  So we have a subpar ceiling job even after repair of of the Handyman Inc. work.  They put up one of the contracted three lights. But as bad as all THAT is it is not the worst.  Remember a $4000 quote with half up front ($2000) that we paid, 25% ($1000) at "half done" which we paid when the painting was done (with promises to repair) and the sheet rock was up but not taped.  Balance (about $1000) was due on completion.  We're too much a soft touch, after getting phone assurance that the ceiling, paint and window problems would be addressed, we were cajoled into paying another $300.  They pocketed that money and then completely abandoned the job.  No answer to repeated phone calls.  None of the fixtures (outlet covers, bathroom medicine cabinet, closet doors, closet rods, curtains) that were removed for painting were replaced.  NOTHING was cleaned up after the botched sheetrock job in the basement.  The worker left their empty paint buckets, tarps, small tools, broken window and all the dust ,dirt and paint blotches as is and they walked.  We have not heard from them since.  Repeated phone calls not returned.  We have invested hundreds of dollars simply repairing the damage that Handyman Inc. did to our house.
Do not give these people a chance to ruin your place.

    Blackburn Handyman Service
Everything went awesome. My wife and I went and picked out the materials (toilet, linoleum) and work started the next day. It was a quick one day job to replace the sub-floor lay the linoleum set the toilet and caulk everything in. The work was done professionally, cleanly and very quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Blackburn Handyman to anyone.

pretty good....he would show up a bit late, but I am a stay at home mom so that isn't a problem for me. He does good work so I say, you have to pick your battles, it''s hard to find a good handyman at a good price when you are new in town.

    Red Truck Home Repair
In 2012 Joe said he would to it that fall but failed to show up. We were out of town during this period. I checked back in January of 2013 and he said they would to as soon as he had time, it never happened.  By this time I should have learned my lesson, he had done good work the year before, again no work. I called again and talked to him about the work, summer 2013. I asked him directly if he was planning or wanted to do the work, he said yes he wanted the job. He even sent someone out to scope out the effort. Again weeks go by and no work, no phone call, just no contact. A called again and he never returned the call. I am now searching for someone else to do the work. Joe is very personable and comes across as very honest, but his professional behavior is poor.

Every went well, the garage turned out excellent. The concrete slab was allowed to set too much causing extra work, but it also turned out OK. The replaced exterior panels were installed properly but the trip was not caulked at all. Joe agreed it should have been caulked but never came to caulk it.

    J Belloff & Sons LLC
The aforementioned reinforcements in an area with heavy vegetation were not part of the original plan, but J Belloff and Sons took on this additional task without hesitation. As well, they changed the direction that the gate swings into our yard immediately when I mentioned that I would prefer this. These guys are a pleasure to work with. They are prompt, skilled, courteous, flexible and a real pleasure to have around. Additionally, they offered sound advice about construction decisions when I consulted them about another project

He is a personal friend too, and that makes a difference. He bills us periodically, we had him do quite a lot of work, and he didn’t charge us very much. He just does good work, and he is a professional who is very meticulous at what he does. He works for Home Depot on exchange or something, so when I need him, he can’t always come, but he comes as soon as he can find the time. I would rate him as excellent on that because he is really good when he finds the time. There are several handymen that we have tried, and they either never show up, or they show up once and don’t come back, so we just stuck with him.
