Locksmith reviews in West Des Moines

    Shaunlock
I was out of town, and my daughter was house and dog sitting for the weekend. She managed to lock her self outside at 1:00am on a Saturday morning. She called me and I told her to go back to her apartment and that I would find someone in the morning.
I started calling locksmiths around 7:30am. Shaun was the fourth company I called. The first one hung up on me, and the other two didn't call back. He answered phone on the first few rings and was willing to come immediately. When I explained that I might have to have my other daughter (with our home address on her drivers license) drive from Ames, he said to have her call him when she got to the metro area.
I was having difficulty getting hold of my daughter in Ames. Shaun called me after about 45 minutes to make sure he hadn't missed her call. He said that he was going to head out to get breakfast and to call when she was on her way. I called the daughter that was locked out and found out that her drivers license still had our address so she headed back to the house and I called Shaun to let him know that someone was headed there. About 15 minutes later I got a phone call from Shaun letting me know the house was unlocked.
He took my credit card info over the phone and texted me a link to the receipt. The cost was reasonable and exactly what he had quoted me.
My daughter called me five minutes later and told me that Shaun was very professional and pleasant, and she felt very comfortable with him and a trainee that he brought along.
Next time, he will the FIRST person I call.
Just a word of advice for anyone needing a locksmith to let you into a home. You should make sure that you have proof that you live at the residence. In my case, I was lucky that my daughters hadn't changed their addresses on their licenses yet.

    24 Hour Lockouts Des Moines
Only good news is that someone answered the phone which is a lot more than can be said about some of the other 24/7 locksmiths. Bad news is that I was told that nobody was available in the morning. Worse news is that the phone call was dropped when I was in mid-sentence trying to explain that I had a 6 month puppy inside. I was left with the impression that they hung up on me. I was really surprised considering the previous good reviews here on Angie's List.

    Midwest Lock Solutions
We had called around other locksmiths around the area to get a quote. Midwest Lock and Security was the only one that picked up promptly and answered all my quotes-related questions thoroughly so that I had a good idea of what my services were going to be and how much they were going to cost. After a couple of days, I called to schedule an appointment and wanted the services to be rendered as soon as possible. To my surprise, they were able to do it that very afternoon!
The service professional, Rodney, was very courteous and thorough. There was a minor glitch because someone had taken one of his tools and he requested to come back the next day for the installation of deadbolt. I was flexible, so I was able to reschedule for the next day. On the next day, I called and asked if he could come in earlier than what we scheduled. He said, and quot;Absolutelyand quot;, and we were able to take care of the business five hours before it was scheduled. The services went normally and we even got a discount for the inconvenience! I would highly recommend Midwest Lock and Security to anybody needing a locksmith. I give them an A.

The base trip charge ($50) seemed a little high, but the lock smith spent around an hour rekeying the locks. I had a key for the first lock and he was able to rekey it, but I had to adjust the lock later so the lever and handle would operate smoothly. I didn't have a key for the second lock and he was unable to pick it. Since it was for the interior garage door I let him take it to try at the shop. He called the next day and said he couldn't pick the lock and it appeared/may be damaged. I purchased a new lockset which they rekeyed to match for free. He didn't make a mess, but he should use shoe covers when walking around customer's house.

    Strauss Security Solutions
I had Strauss install a new door handleset on the front door of my residential home. I called about a week in advance and it was no problem selecting the appointment time that worked best for me. The day of my appointment I received a call about 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time and the technician informed me he was running about 15 minutes behind. I rated punctuality a "B" for this reason, but I was very appreciative to even get a call letting me know they were running behind. The technician had to drill a hole thru the door for the dead bolt (as before there was only a door knob) as well as in the door jamb. He drilled the holes and installed the handleset I had already bought from my local hardware store all in about 45 minutes. I will definitely be calling Strauss for all my future locksmith needs.

    Iowa Lock Co
Called early inthe moring and he was there within an hour. Repaired the door from the garage and double checked to make sure it worked. Spent a good deal of time trying to help with the incorrectly installed sliding door (and I'm sure didn't charge for all this extra time) and was able to least partly fix it.

I was not interested to do it at that time so I didn't proceed with it. It was very expensive and his estimate was high. One time he didn't show up and after several calls he showed up.
