Insulation reviews in West Des Moines

    Prevailing Resources LLC
Matt and crew were knowledgeable and professional. I initially thought I had old cellulose insulation and was looking to have it removed and replaced which would have been very expensive. Matt informed me I had good insulation, but could use a little more in the attic and I had none in my garage attic. I had some soffits that were blocked and my old baffles had been dislodged and damaged by previous work. In addition I had had some water infiltration inside the house as a result of my gutters not getting cleaned out and he removed all of that bad insulation and replaced it. They were timely and vacuumed before they left. I was impressed with the team at Prevailing Resources! Thank you!

Gave up on them (they were "forgetting about" my e-mails, etc. -- responding a few weeks later, making unprofessional excuses, etc.).

I am pleased to find that this company *does* care about first impressions with their customers.  Actually, they did have an appointment set up with me -- but when I called (and also e-mailed) their office to state that I had concerns about the questionnaire (which, at that time, required that all fields be filled in), the receptionist was quite firm in saying that "Everything has to be filled out before Jason can come out."  I appreciate that they are trying to help narrow down the choices to save themselves and their future customers time.  Even more than that, I am glad to know that they responded to my review, and made positive changes; that speaks very well of the company.  I may consider contacting them again in the future.

For what it's worth, this company still sends me their e-mail "updates"/"e-mail newsletters", so... apparently their database still has my e-mail address:-).

This is a firm I use regularly. They have complete almost a 100% renovation of this home over the past few years, to include new windows, siding, doors, roof, and some significant interior work. They did an excellent job, were here when they said they were and if any issue came up, they took care of it and stood behind their bid. I plan on using them anytime I have additional construction work to be done.

    Rich Quigley Construction
Superior quality, attention to detail, and competitive pricing.  As he is a general contractor as well, I will be recommending Rich to my friends and family for a variety of home projects.  This winter in Iowa was brutally cold,  And our "new to us" 1950's ranch was very well built. . . except for the ice that formed on the inside of the North exterior wall in our bedrooms.  Apparently our home had little/no insulation in the exterior walls.  We set up a Mid American Home Energy audit so that we could qualify for the home energy rebates for insulating our home.  Then we obtained bids from 3 different companies.  Rich's bid was competitive with the lowest bid, but what set him apart was the time he spent explaining to us what he would do, and in a particularly difficult section of wall, Rich found a very creative solution to insulate it but keep the architectural features intact.  This was far and away the best answer we received, compared with the lowest bid contractor who just shrugged his shoulders and said he would skip insulating that section of wall.  We were paying for insulation, not for a gaping hole.  If the contractor skips insulating a difficult section of wall, what other work are the skipping?
So Rich won out on attention to detail and pricing.  He was flexible with our work schedules, showed up on time or 5 minutes early each day, and finished 10 minutes ahead of schedule.  I could physically feel the temperature difference when he had finished, and had to immediately turn my thermostat down 4 degrees.  When I put my hands on my daughters' bedroom wall, they were no longer ice cold, but comparable with the temperature of the home. No more space heater needed.
Rich also stayed true to his bid, no over pricing or adding on last minute charges.  And he cleaned up after himself.  There was very little dust left behind.  Not only would I recommend him for home insulation, I would recommend him for any general home contracting needs, as he has extensive experience in all areas of home construction.  Rich Quigley Construction was a great find.  The quality of his work speaks for itself.

Matt gave me a good estimate to remodel a bathroom and asked for half up front.  I gave him $1400 and he started demolition of the old bathroom.  Pretty soon he started making excuses why he couldn't be there, or he'd show up and do a little bit of work, then leave.  He had not delivered any of the materials he wanted the up front money for.  After dealing with this for 2 months, I asked him to deliver the materials or refund my money.  He made promises, but never carried through.  Haven't seen or heard from him now for over a month.  I've since hired someone else to complete the work.

    Inside Out Duct Sealing LLC
These guys, simply put, are awesome.  In purchased a rather large home in February of this year, and have had problems with the 2nd floor staying cool, along with AC continuously running, and huge utility bills.  Today they came out to the house about 8AM, and started the process of sealing the ductwork from the inside out.  Basically they block off all of the registers, and then pressurize the system with a solution that will seal holes in the ducts.  If you want to know more about the science of it, hit up their website and watch the videos.
Before the ducts were sealed I could barely feel anything coming out of the registers upstairs.  Now they can easily blow paper away from the registers if they were covered.  He provided me with printouts of the CFM (Air Loss) before and after the sealing process, and I couldn't be happier with the results.
My home is more comfortable, and I'm sure my utility bills will be lower.

We used Lowe's for our kitchen renovation. Lowe's contracts with Dave Smith Construction for the installation. First, we had a great experience with Michelle Byers at Lowe's in planning for the new kitchen. She was pleasant, knowledgeable, and took time to answer all our questions about the cabinets. Once the plan was in place, Dave Smith came to the house to double check the measurements and discuss our project. We were very pleased to get Dave as our installer because he not only did the cabinet work, but also handled the electrical and plumbing jobs. Dave had our old cabinets out in one day, and completed the installation of the new cabinets in two days. We ran into a few problems with crown molding because of our ceiling, but Dave was able to solve the problem and the molding looks fantastic. Dave was on time every day, cleaned up at the end of each day, and was just a total professional. Dave has his own company, Dave Smith Construction, and I would not hesitate to hire him for any type of remodeling or construction work. We are very happy with our new cabinets, and are just waiting for the new granite counters to be installed.
If there is an downside to a kitchen project like ours it is that it takes 3-4 weeks to get the granite counters after the cabinets are installed. However we have been pleased so far with all aspects of our remodeling project and would definitely use Lowe's again for a remodeling job.

L & L Home Solutions With Universal Windows Direct
They arrived exactly when they said they would and took great care to protect my white carpeting while installing the attic insulation They quoted the job as taking 3 days but finished within 2 days. They kept me informed of the progress and made sure I viewed the attic after it was completed. I used the responses on Angie's list to find them and I agree with everything that was said. They cleaned up where you wouldn't have even known the work had been done. Everyone was both courteous and professional. Great work - David, Josh, Will, and Abraham!

He talks a big game like he actually will just knock it out and you will be the happiest customer ever.  He actually didn't caulk on the top of my window trim and I had water leaking into my house.  he also installed a window inside-out.  He showed up to the jobsite drunk one night and wanted to climb on a ladder...which clearly was the end of it.  Matt is a conman and a complete loser.  I would never recommend using this person for any work.

Lyle was flexible in performing some of the work in late November/early December and then most of the work in April.  We had an urgent need before winter kicked in created by a rogue woodpecker.  Lyle was willing to break the work into two jobs and still maintain quality of the work.  We especially appreciated Lyle's attention to the job and his prompt communication.  He returned all calls and is a good listener.  Another thing we appreciated was that there were no surprises with the bill.  We discussed every side job and prices for the work.   All the work promised was done.  The crew working with Lyle was friendly and all business.  We would definitely hire him again for another job.  Many thanks to Lyle and crew.
