First part of the contract, the roof was completed but had many issues. sent owner, Tom Buysee a documentation of the issue at hand and no response. He would promise a time frame but never met it. the would tell you he would come the next following day to do some more work and never give a prior warning. Then when request a further notice, he then put me on the back of his list. then no contact. Finally, he called and expects homeowner to have availability with again no prior notice. after homeowner request one-on-one with Tom Buysee, Tom Buysee terminated contract.

    Freed Construction Inc
The owner. Brian Freed, met with our condo association and went over the details.  He provided a comprehensive bid for all the work needed to be done and answered all of our questions.  He gave us an estimated start date but was able to start at a much earlier date. He had excellent crews to work on both of our buildings and finished the work on the roofs in one day.   The equipment used was first class.  They used trailers to remove old shingles instead of heavy dumpsters which everyone appreciated.  The crews did an excellent job in cleaning up debris from the project.  The gutter portion of the project was completed within two weeks, again with excellent workmanship.  The cost of this project was well within insurance estimates.  I would not hesitate to recommend Freed Construction Inc.

I'd give them an and lsquo;A' across the board. For the remodeling of the bathroom, he had put something in and when he had found out that he didn't need to do it he took it all off. He was really fair because others might have just left it in there. The best thing about it are the people, when they came and left we didn't know that a there had been anyone during the day, they cleaned up immaculately.

    Magee Construction Co
I wanted a estimate from them for damage to my house during a wind storm when a tree fell on the house.  I was dealing with Matt who met me on time and told me he would have an estimate for me in a week.

A few weeks went by and I never got an estimate from him.  I contacted him and said he had though he had called me and told me that he talked to the city inspector who told him the building would need to be brought up to code.  I still told him I would still like to get a quote from him.  I told him my insurance needed it.  He said he would fax the quote to them.  I gave him my claim number and contact for them.  He said he would call them.  In the mean time the insurance cut me a check as to what they though the repairs would be.

It was a month later when I contacted my insurance to see what the hold up was on the reconciliation.  They told me they never were contacted by Magee Construction.   I called Matt again and he told me he would call them.  I also told him what the check was cut for.  He said that was way too low and would "talk to them".

Another week went by and I called the insurance again about the reconciliation.  Again they said they had not been contacted from Magee Construction.  I called Matt and asked him just to send me the estimate and he told me they were not interested in doing the repair work.  He told me since I had mentioned in a prior  conversion that I might be tearing down the house and build new due to the damage being so extensive.  He also told me he would not give me an estimate since McGee Construction was not interested in doing the repair work. I was flabbergasted.  They were the only contractor I had contacted since there were suggested by my Insurance agent.  Also originally when I had met Matt at the house he told me he was going to give me an estimate in a week.   McGee Construction left me out on a limb and I lost months of time.

I honestly don't know the quality of work they do as we never got that far.

Even if I wasn't going to repair that house.  Just tear it down/build new.  I still need someone to build a new house for me.  But since they would not even to work with me on a estimate for repairs and left me out on a limb.  There was no way I would hire them to do the building of a new house or for any other work.  This has been a bad experience for me with McGee Construction.

On a final note I would have gave them a lot higher grade had I gotten an estimate.  But due to the lack of estimate I am grading them with that in mind.  I do want to say Matt was nice to me and responded to my calls within a day.  But that didn't help me in the long run.  I still needed an estimate.

Bartlett Construction was able to work on our garage in between some of their other big jobs.  They were great on getting the project complete in a timely manner and kept up on the clean-up so the yard always looked nice.

    All Iowa Paint & More
On 05-26-10 Scott Norton of All Iowa Painting gave me an estimate for exterior painting at my home and said that the job would be completed on 5-29-10. It was clear & dry that day; he painted 2 sides of the foundation & omitted 2 sides of the foundation, 2 2nd floor windows, & the backdoor frame. He took the check for the money due upon completion and cashed it on 5/29/10. I contacted him 5/29 & asked why the job was incomplete and when it was going to be done. He replied that he got a late start & it would be finished on 06/01. I stated that the check was not to have been cashed until the work was completed. He agreed that he should not have cashed it. I stated that he should have called me that he was not able to work that day. He agreed and said that he had lost my phone number. (My number is written on the estimate, and I am listed in the phone book.) It was not done & I made another call. He said his child was sick, but he would finish the job the next day. It was not done. I called again. He said his truck had broken down, but it was fixed and he would finish the work the next day if it did not rain. Rain occurred for several days. On 06/09, was a clear day, and no work was done. I called at 7:37 AM on 06/10, and reached a voice mail. I left a message stating that if he was unable to complete the job arrangements needed to be made for him to return the money to me for the work that was not completed and that he was to call me to resolve this situation. Rain again occurred for several days. On 06/16, a clear, dry day, no work was done. I called at 5:22 PM, and asked why the painting was not done. He stated that he had gone to Des Moines because his daughter had tried to commit suicide, but he would finish the painting on 06/17. It was not done. On 06/21, another call was made, and he stated that he would be out that afternoon. No painting or scraping was done. On 06/22, a phone message was left requesting that the painting be completed by the end of the week (06/25, which is a month since the estimate was given), and the alternative of returning the money for not finishing the job in the form of a cashier?s check was offered since he seemed to be having difficulty completing the work. I stated that I much preferred that the painting be completed. As of this posting, 06/22/10, the work remains unfinished.
