    Chris's Handyman Services
I called Chris's Handyman Service a few weeks ago. When I first called the line was busy. I waited a minute and called back. It rang, went to voicemail, but the voicemail was full so I couldn't leave a message. I was finally able to leave a message a couple of days later and Chris called me back the following day and left a voicemail. Unfortunately I was out of town and I couldn't get back to him until the next week. When I got back we finally got in touch and I informed Chris what I needed done. He gave me a great price for cleaning my gutters and informed me he needed to see my property to estimate the landscaping. He said he could be out May 2nd at 11:00. I said that would be great and was excited about getting this work done. May 2nd comes and 11:00 no one has come. I called after 12 to see what the problem was and left a message. No response. I called the following day, no answer. I read about Chris having back surgery in the past in one of the reviews so I was hoping that he didn't get injured or something else happened. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and called again and left a message. No response to this day. Very, very unprofessional and inconsiderate.

    TOJO CONSTRUCTION
First part of the contract, the roof was completed but had many issues. sent owner, Tom Buysee a documentation of the issue at hand and no response. He would promise a time frame but never met it. the would tell you he would come the next following day to do some more work and never give a prior warning. Then when request a further notice, he then put me on the back of his list. then no contact. Finally, he called and expects homeowner to have availability with again no prior notice. after homeowner request one-on-one with Tom Buysee, Tom Buysee terminated contract.

    R & K Home Improvement

june of '14 we responded to an ad left on our door. after a lot of conversation, we decided to hire robert to roof our house & garage, also soffit work. the house was to have a tear off, shingled and the garage metal-roofed. he was a longtime waterloo resident and was working on a house down the st. also had done nice work on a house near us. he stated that he had a crew, which we found out later that were only for the tear-off. otherwise it was mainly him and another man. if he had told us it was only going to be him, we never would have hired him. very misleading.

july 8th, he had us pay for materials and 1/2 his labor. he stated that was how business was done. the start date was 8/15. materials for the garage were delivered to our driveway in late july, the rest were delivered to HIS home who knows when. the garage materials sat in our drive way for 3 months until my husband (w/2 knee replace.) moved them himself. each month we had to get ahold of him, inquire as to the start date and was always put off. he kept promising 2 week increments. he did, however, come and throw a bunch of tarps in the yard when he saw a new furnace being put in.

august passed, sept passed, oct passed. he kept giving us excuses as to why the work had not started yet. finally mid nov (first recorded snowfall was 11/21) he wanted to bring things over. (ie: not have to park his truck and trailer at his house.) but who wants construction material in their yard over the winter? our home had already become a storage unit for him. at this point we told him to stop everything,,we were consulting our lawyer. thru our lawyers we gave him the option of giving him may/june of '15 to complete the job, since the building permit was good for a year. he refused. HE said there was too much animosity by that time. well, who wouldn't be upset that it took months waiting for work to get done with no communication?

summer of 15-we finally found someone that would pick up our materials that were delivered to robert's, and do our roofs. the job was done in 3 days. we also discovered robert had over ordered enough materials to do 2 garage roofs. now we have the metal that was supposed to be for the garage, plus the 8 packs of extra shingles, and 17 extra sheets of plywood sitting in our back yard.

we lost money on the over-purchasing of the materials, lawyer fees, he refunded only part of his labor because he had put a tarp over the roof. not only was our yard and driveway a mess for months, the inside dividing wall between our upstairs bedrooms started to discolor and peel in the winter after his tarp had blown away. this whole thing has cost us alot of money, aggravation and stress. the biggest mistake was not getting an ending date in writing. huge lesson learned from this fiasco.

    City Builders
The job took about five months and the rood did not pass inspection. City Builders took down all the information and then passed it on to another contractor. It was leaking around the chimney badly but they did not pass on any information to the people that did it so they didn’t know about the specific problems. They didn’t have the shingles that I chose in stock so they just substituted it with something else without even asking me. The workers were of a different nationality and I was told that they couldn’t speak English but they could speak and understand English. They left beer cans on the roof and the yard. I think the price was competitive. The quality was good once the whole thing was done but it took six months to get it.

    Aesthetic Elements
These guys did a nice job installing a rubber roof for me.  Steve, the owner came over the same day I contacted him for an estimate,  Their estimate was in line with others I received, and they were easy to work with.  They had a crew start it on an afternoon that fit my schedule, and one man finished up all of the detail work the next day.

    KOCH CONSTRUCTION
We hired Koch to remodel our kitchen. The work took several months.  At the beginning of the project, we worked with Carri, who helped us design the kitchen, and she also coordinated the entire project. (painters, flooring, plumbers, electrical). She was easy to work with, and answered all of our questions. She also kept the project moving along.  During the project, the employees of Koch who worked in our home were always courteous.  At the end of each workday everything was put away, and the workspace was swept. The end result was gorgeous!! Since the construction, we have had Koch come back to make a few minor repairs or adjustments. They always came back immediately. I will hire them again in the future.

    Runyan Exteriors
My experience with them was not good. I signed a contract with them and quickly negated it. I had a hard hit from a hailstorm and I needed to do a lot of fixing. They gave us a pseudo estimate. They did not state what they would cover and the only estimate that was specified was roofing. It was an open ended contract and I felt like they weren't being dishonest. I would not recommend them to anyone because I think it's not the way business is done. They were responsive to our calls unlike other companies when we called. They came out quickly.

    H & L ROOFING
Added it to his busy schedule in order to prevent water damage - some of the loose or recent missing shingles were down to the paper lining which would have leaked through nail holes. Explained that the price would be higher than the past as he had to use scaffolding due to the pitch of our roof where the repairs were needed. Did it the next day before more torrential rains came down. Very pleased with his work ethic and quality of work.

    Denny Staebell Home Improvement Inc
It worked out very, very well. They also gave me a quote for the roof at the same time, so that was great. He is very thorough. He took photos, showed me what was going on and when I get the roof done I'll definitely be working with them. It took them a little while to return my call, but businesses are very busy this time of year.
