    Had a 23 year old furnace and A/C and although it was operating fine, I was getting nervous about it this past winter when it was so cold for so long. A nice personable young man came to provide a quote in January. He knew I was going to retire within 2 months and that I was trying to get by as inexpensive as possible. Turns out they had a system that had been installed in error as the manufacturer had sent the wrong system to them and they had installed it. It was discovered somehow and they had to deinstall it. This system had the same 85% efficiency as the one I currently had, so it was not the high efficiency that many buy now. He said they could install that system which would have been cheaper for me by possibly $3000. I didn't get a warranty, as that can only be use once and it was used at the first location it was installed at. It is an Amana system. I decided to not have the system installed until spring when the temperatures were nicer so as not to freeze in the winter or bake in the summer while they installed it. Two technicians arrived on time and completed the work sooner than I thought. Nice guys and willing to explain everything and answer questions. Cleaned up after themselves before leaving. So far I am pleased with the operation, although it's only been a month. I had used the heat a few times in the beginning and now using A/C and all seems to operate fine.

    This company was terrific to work with in late 2010 when they installed a new Lennox heat exchange unit for us, and over the next couple of years they were prompt and helpful in keeping up our maintenance plan with them. Since then it's been a disaster. We have called multiple times over several years, asking them to re-start that service (which seemed to have lagged), and have been given apologies - stating that a former employee had embezzled funds, that customer records had been deleted or lost, and other things. We were willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, however they have NEVER called back, have given these reasons over at least 2 years (shouldn't something have gotten better by now), and have simply left us hanging. We wanted to stick with them, but it's gone on too long and we're just done.

    He arrived early and worked for 2 1/2 hours to do a 2-story house with 28 vents. As we understand it, most quotes cover 20 vents and you pay extra for more. We had a coupon from ValuePak and had no other quotes--the two other companies we emailed from Angie's List. didn't respond.

    The initial consultation went well. We were sent an estimate which seemed in-line with what Mid-American estimated we would pay. Looking back, however, the estimate only included a lump sum and did not itemize each item and price. When they arrived, they tried to access part of the attic and cut a hole in the wall of a closet (which we agreed on). After they cut the hole, they realized they couldn't access the attic from there. So we were stuck with a hole in the wall which we had to patch ourselves. It cost money (I don't know how much) for them to cut a hole in our wall that took 2 minutes with a hand saw. They finished the job then took the rebate form with them. They said that Adam would get back to us on the adjusted cost. He sent another invoice, again with just a lump sum, not an itemized list of charges. I paid it. I knew it would take time to get the rebate, so I put it out of my mind. Nearly two months went by and I called Mid-American asking about the rebate. They had never received the form. I called Adam and he said he remembered getting emails that things didn't go through. But apparently never responded to them! He submitted paperwork that day and I got an email from the rebate people. They responded that they were only going to rebate our job for $367 and we paid nearly $900. This wasn't even close to the 75% they were supposed to rebate and they said they only paid 75% of the square footage that was completed. I called Adam back pretty upset and feeling they had either ripped us off or estimated the square footage incorrectly. I said I wanted an itemized list of what we paid for and he said he didn't think he could get that for me. WHAT?! I paid nearly $900 and I don't know what I've paid for??? He called back and said they had put down the wrong square footage. The rebate would now be $510. Better but still not great. Thoughout all of this, I never got an apology for any of the problems that we had. I would never use this company again.

    It went great once I talked with Jake from Modern Mechanical. He was very honest, upfront and his quote was very reasonable. He was very patient with my questions and very timely in responding. They crews that sis the install was very professional and did a great job. All the paperwork, rebates etc were taken care of by the folks in the office. We couldn't by happier!

    I would probably use them in the future. After they installed the unit, we kept telling them that it was making a weird sound. They would send out a technician, and the technician couldn't find anything, so they would charge us a service fee without fixing anything. I personally fixed the problem.
